Opening her eyes, Nogard looked about. She had been strapped to some sort of table--after a second or two, she realized it was an altar. The building she was in was similar to the old
catholic churches of Old Earth [+1]. For the moment, she was alone. Yet, next to her was a rather large dagger.
"So you're awake," someone said. His voice had a faint trace of an accent in it.
Whipping her head around, Nogard saw a hooded monk walking down the central isle towards her. "Yes. May I ask where I am?"
"Unfortunately, I am not allowed to divulge that," the monk said. He stopped at the base of the altar. "I am only here to check on your well being."
"Then you'll let me go?" Nogard asked. Her senses had been deadened, so she could not smell him even though he was a tail length away.
"I cannot do that," the monk said. "For if I were to release the sacrifice, I would have to take its place."
"I am the sacrifice?" Nogard asked. The monk nodded. "Apparently then Karma has finally caught up with me to punish me for my past sins."

[+2] n** doesn't actually know Taran's name...but it makes it easier for describing purposes.
