((Okay, I'm skipping the actual trial scene at this point...this scene is soon thereafter))

Alambil stood there, staring face-to-face with the sphinx who sat in the center of the room. She sat proudly, her wings arched over her head, looking for all the world like one of the Guardians in miniature. Her eyes were also narrowed in annoyance. Alambil knew from experiance that the expression usually implied that the sphinx in question was sulking.

"What do you want of me, Fey-daughter? First you seem intent on killing me, then on preserving my life. Make up your mind" she said grumpily.

"well....in short, I'd like you to come with me"

"Go with you where?"

"Wherever I happen to go."
The sphinx's eyes narrowed even further.

"So you want a bodyguard. A lowly puppet to follow your orders and do your gruntwork. How typical of the Seelie."

"A bodyguard, yes, but certainly no puppet. I usually prefer to be on terms of at least mutual respect, if not close friendship, with those who come with me to protect me."

Morgule merely snorted.

"You've fought with Geren..."
"And let me guess....he's a great, well-known warrior, all your bodyguards are, and since they certainly respect you and vice versa you see no reason why I shouldn't do the same." Morgule replied sardonically

Ally looked a tad guilty. "I don't expect your respect right off the bat...nor any time in the near future. Life doesn't work that way....though that was the gist of what I was about to say. However, I DO want a chance to get to know you."

Morgule raised an eyebrow. "I had the impression that the Seelie liked to enjoy their long lives...not end up in the stomachs of other beings...."

There was a snarl from outside the door, and Ally gave it an annoyed glance. "Oi! Geren, you're not helping!" she called. She turned back to the sphinx
"Would you be willing to consider it?"

"I like maintaining my dignity and honor, thank you." Then the sphinx noticed the fairy twitch in a way that was usually indicatory of having an ace up one's sleeve.

"What is it?"

"Well, given what happened today, I think we can say I am responsable for saving your neck. Hence..."

Morgule's eyes rolled up and back as she groaned in annoyance.
"As you saved my life, I am honor-bound to repay the debt" She growled between clenched teeth, adn had to sorely resist the temptation to claw the ever so slightly smug look the fairy had across her face.
"Look...how about for the time being, you come with me to protect me. That will optimize your chances of repaying your life-debt as quickly as possible. Once you do that, then you can decide if you want to stay with me, or if you still want to go your own way. Agreed?"

Morgule gazed intently at Alambil's face. Thought she kept a stone-solid demeanor on her face, inwardly she was enjoying images of peeling this insolent fairy's skin off her face. Or maybe just squishing her against a wall.

The words "very well" rose, in their graveling, growling tones, and left her throat, sealing a pact that was to have far-reaching consequences beyond anything she could have imagined.
