Anything time with Grilden
Whatevers on my mind, a story, a problem, whatever.
A Price Paid
“Damn!”, Grilden had just taken a hit to his right side from this strangers staff. It felt like it broke something.
“Hehe,” he began to walk up to the kneeling figure which was his target, “so the infamous Grilden isn’t what they say he is... well now..”
He stopped as he saw the tattoos on his foes arms light up suddenly. Grilden stood eyes closed, the scar over his left eye was glowing the same brilliant electric blue as was the tattoo on his right brow. When his attacker was looking at his face he shot his eyes open. The pupils were the same blue.
“If you run now, I’ll be nice the next time we meet.”
“And if I don’t?..” he was so nervous now his voice trembled and he almost shook.
“Then we wont meet again.” he spun his blade into a ready stance.
“Ok. I’ll go.” he turned to leave.
“Before you go, I might suggest you change your identity, I’ll be sure your master thinks your dead.” The man turned to him and bowed muttering something in a language Grilden did not understand, “Farewell.” he bowed back and sheathed his newest weapon as the stranger vanished. Man’duru had been destroyed during a battle in the forbidden dessert on the brothers last training mission. So Grilden went to the dwarves and acquired some addament, the best he could find at the proper length fo his new design.

. . .

Thhhewip. A splinter of mahogany fell on Arkewinn’s lap. “Your assassin forgot how to throw, it’s all that’s left of him, thought you might want it back.” The young black haired man stood leisurely and pulled the poison dart from his chair back.
“How did you know it was me?” he asked. His skin was dark, that of the people of the sand. He sat back down, playing with the darts construction.
“Really, Ark, you’ve been trying to kill me since I ruined your marriage. Who else would do it.” he stated sarcastically. Walking around the room admiring the art on the walls.
“True,” he pawed at his beard, “what would you like me to do?”
Finally, I’m so tired of passing trough this city and someone trying to kill me. “I want you to stop now, you cant kill me.” he paced for a moment, “Savy?”
He gave a confused sort of acknowledging smile, “You do know I won’t be persuaded so easily.”
“How much,” Grilden practically cut him off.
“What?” Arkewinn winced.
“Name your price.” he toyed a pouch at his belt.
“One thousand, the price on your head”, he almost stumbled his speech as the jingling hide sac reached him and Grilden vanished out the curtain door.

. . .

The sun was bright and the day was hot, “Lets go, I’m tired of this place already.”
“Baby is there something your not telling me?” Aranel pressed up against him with her body, she stared him in the eye the way he couldn’t resist. He nodded. “Tell babydoll, hun.” she was sweet and comforting. He looked away, slightly unattached to everything around him. “Not again,” she could tell. Her hand ran down his face and chest and she kissed his cheek. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.” he winced when her fingers ran over his ribs. She frowned at him and uttered a healing spell and rubbed the tenderness away.
“Always gotta be the big tough guy, can’t just accept the loving care of his girl right away.” Sindarin laughed, “Kira, you ready to go babe?”
“All set, the other three are waiting north from here.” she walked up with her pack full of little things she needed, long red hair tied back and bouncing playfully in the sun. This was the whole reason they were here.
They walked and played, laughing and talking for the half hour it took to reach the north gate, tall and decorated. When they reached it however there were six dark clothed figures blocking their path each with a white feather hanging from the left side of their hood. One shot an arrow from a traditional dessert land bow, it hit at Grilden’s feet, a note tied around. Grilden lifted his hand a little ways and the scar across his eye lit up, the slip of paper untied and floated up to eye level. It read:
I hope you will come visit me when next you pass through,
at that time I will no longer attempt to dispatch you.
This is my parting gift. These men will cover your exit
from my city for it is not yet common knowledge to the
bounty hunters that there is no longer a price on your
head.
Arkewinn

“Sheikh of Sheikhs.” Grilden murmured to himself, “Come it is safe for us now, I promise.” he reached for Aranel to take his hand as he started walking towards Arkewinn’s black gaurd.
