The Miasma of Escapism
At first, this was supposed to be an outlet for my thoughts about a particular situation. However, I have decided now not only to write about my state of mind, but also to present any written works that I have developed.
An Interstellar Muse
OOC: I just couldn't resist doing this, there were too many parallels in Tuomas Holopainen's lyrics with Doctor Who that just couldn't be ignored.

A little bit of info on my OC: I created her recently, and she is a student of classical vocal music, with anthropologist parents. She appeared in the Doctor's universe (before you ask, she is not from ours) through the Cardiff rift in her own universe (big surprise there).

In regards to her relationship with the Doctor, it is strictly non-romantic. I felt that the Doctor has had enough love interests to deal with amidst all of the OC romance fics that are floating around FF.net.

I am establishing the fact that she at first looked towards the Ninth Doctor as a father-figure, and now the Tenth Doctor like an older brother. Either way, he is her role model, and not her crush. I think that it quite fits her personality, as she is very petite and soft-spoken most of the time, that is, until meeting the Doctor.

The actress that I chose to portray her is Aoi Miyazaki, whom I found embodies her perfectly.

Doctor Who: An Interstellar Muse

Hina brushed the snow out of her hair as she entered through the TARDIS door, emotionally exhausted from the ordeal that she and the Doctor had gone through with Donna and the Racnoss.

Looking over at the Time Lord in question, she saw the raw emotion that had preyed upon him moments before Donna's appearance, retake its place upon his paradoxically youthful features. A pang of sympathy washed over her as she remembered the way he shook with sobs over her shoulder after his heartbreaking farewell to Rose. Not wishing him more suffering, she decided to direct his thoughts away from his melancholy.

"'S a real shame that Donna didn't want to come with us, I liked her," Hina said casually, looking over to the Doctor for any reaction.

"Yeah," the Doctor replied nonchalantly, without looking up from the console, "I admit that she might have been an interesting companion. Regardless, we can't keep wishing for what we don't have."

Then, as suddenly as ever, if not more, the Doctor's face split into a thousand-watt grin directed at her.

"Well Hina, where to now? We can go to Halcya - beautiful, tranquil planet! Or maybe New Alexandria, they have a fantastic restaurant there! And we still haven't gone to Barcelona yet. Can't ever forget the noseless dogs - that joke just never gets old!" The Doctor's spontaneous energy that set off his gob, despite it being used to cover up his inner turmoil, made Hina parallel his grin with her own toothy mug. She then changed her expression to mock thoughtfulness.

"Hmm... How about we set it to random?" she suggested, making her way over beside him at the console. "Makes it all the more fun!" She could tell that the Doctor wanted to leave his brooding as much as she wanted it to cease within him. A new trip was all that they needed.

"Oh, I like the way you think, Hina!" the Doctor said as he initiated the dematerialization sequence, setting it to tackle random coordinates. In other words, he let the TARDIS choose where they were to go.

"You ready?" he whispered dramatically, as he was about to pull the lever.

"Oh, yes!" Hina replied with equal fervour. Not a moment too soon, the TARDIS had started dematerializing. Before they knew it, the TARDIS' lurch sent the Doctor and Hina to the floor in front of the console, the duo shaking from laughter.

Hina got up first and ran straight for the doors. Opening them, she felt a wave of frosty air hit her, then became aware of the fact that the TARDIS landed them on a snow-covered roof, of all places. The velvety-dark sky was cloudless and the moon's luminescent glow was cast upon the snow covering the Earth, making it sparkle like stardust. Hina could not help but pause in her steps and gaze at the sight in front of her.

"Hina, what are you waiting for?" she heard the Doctor call as he came up behind her. Before she had any chance to warn him of their altitude, however, he continued on. "Let's start exploring this brave new world - No hesitation! Allons-y-AHH!"

As predicted, the Doctor, in all of his gracefulness, stepped off the roof and went sliding down the slanted shingles, landing face-down into the snow that covered the front yard of the house.

"Doctor!" Hina exclaimed, descending carefully down the ladder at the side of the building, and coming over to check on him. "You alright?" she asked worriedly, lifting his head up by a fringe. She hadn't realized that she was shivering and hugged herself from the cold.

"Oh, just fine!" he said breathlessly, standing up in a hasty manner and brushing snow off of his person. "Nothing like a good snow in the face to give me a proper wakeup call! Wouldn't you agree?" he prattled on. Of course, it was so like the Doctor to make such a situation look commonplace. Hina simply rolled her eyes in amusement. At least he was acting normal again.

She then took a good look at their surroundings at ground level, which didn't appear to be more than a simple neighbourhood. "Where did the TARDIS take us this time, Doctor?" she asked through the chattering of her teeth. She really should have gotten herself a coat from the wardrobe.

"Huh... judging from the landscape beyond this suburban area, along the wind patterns, I'd say that we're somewhere in Finland." Finland? Hina wondered. That's new...

Indeed, it was. The TARDIS normally limited itself to areas around Western Europe whenever he landed on Earth.

"And what year do you think it is?" Hina inquired further. Their surroundings didn't look older than the ones that they had just left.

The Doctor closed his eyes for a second before coming to his conclusion. "Early eighties, most likely."

Hina nodded in comprehension.

Just then, a clutter interrupted their thoughts. Hina and the Doctor quickly turned around to see a pyjama-clad little boy with blond hair walking towards them from the ladder that Hina had used previously. Her gaze was then directed to the window on the top right-hand corner and its wide-open shutters. Thus was answered the question of where he came from.

Feeling a little foolish for not acknowledging the boy, she walked a few steps towards him. "Hi, I'm Hina and this is the Doctor," she said to him. The Time Lord came up at her side, equally curious of the boy.

He then flashed his friendly smile at him. "As Hina said, I'm the Doctor. What's your name, then?" he asked.

"Tuomi," the boy answered in a soft voice. "My name is Tuomi." His eyes then narrowed in suspicion as he approached them closer. "You can't be Santa... What are you doing in my front yard on Christmas and my birthday?"

"Oh, I like you! Constant vigilance is a useful thing to have. What do you think, Hina?" the Doctor, grinning in amusement, but then became blank at the sight of her.

Hina's mind hadn't registered what the Doctor had said. It was simultaneously in conflict and shock.

It just couldn't be him, she admonished. There could be other Tuomi's who have their birthday on Christmas, who live in Finland...

Her instincts soon won over her as she gazed into the innocent, ocean-blue eyes that were full of wonder underneath the tuft of dark blond hair. Then came a jag into her memory - the echo of fantastical verses from her distant, unattainable home...

The one in the Big Blue is what the world stole from me
This night will bring him home to me...

Almost unconsciously, a childish smile made its way onto her face upon realizing just who this seemingly-unknown boy was - or rather - will be.
