Remembering Him
Friday was a fairytale. I wore a dress, he wore a dark grey t-shirt. He told me I was pretty when I hurt like a mess. The week was a fairytale.

He hid his emotions, tossing out the simple lie of "I'm just tired" like everyone else. Acne stubbled cheeks can't hide his beautiful face, his entrancing eyes that seem to pierce mine. His teasing words made my stomach jump, his aura made me shy away from him one day.

I didn't look at him at all through a morning rehearsal, instead choosing to sidestep him when he came to re-tune my timpani, my hair hiding my view of him. He was confused-normally I was poking or prodding him, trying to make him smile. But not that morning.

Even though he doesn't believe in love, I'm determined to call his bluff. The girl he talks to until three in the morning cheated on his best friend. He may have feelings for her. If he does, then he might be in trouble. I'm glad I got to know him the short time I did. He's a good person.

"I'm a jerk, so you dance with me," he says. "Yes," I reply. We slow dance to the song "Don't Stop Believing". He is taller than me and he laughs a bit when he sees a boy in our section making out with his girlfriend on the dance floor. He tells me what he sees and I make a face, commenting "ew". He just laughs even more at that.

He was a friend of sorts. We were friends of sorts. He was complex, yet he still laughed and lived, played and occasionally teased me for no apparent reason at all. Conducting class made me wary, a few pokes to the side was all it took for him to know I was ticklish.

His friends reflected upon him-who he was, what he fought for. It didn't take me long to figure out that he deeply cared, and was deeply cared about. His friends were fun-loving and odd, but who had a bond with each other that seemed spectacular.

Even though he's gone, they can't forget. We can't forget. I can't forget. Band camp may be over, but the drama lives on. His decisions, his words, still live on.

Forgive me I'm trying to find my calling, I'm calling through the night. I don't mean to be a bother, but have you seen this man?
