“I Am From” Poem
I am from prune orchards and fruit in abundance, From mustard flower forts to hide-and-seek in the dark, I am from education, back when Rucker was a family, I am from Carriage Hills and Sunrise park.
I am from Shadows and my imagination, I am from rainbows and colors, dancing in the rain, I am from puff paint and threaded creation, From charcoal and graphite, expression all the same.
I am from guitar strings and piano keys, I am from compositions and original works-in-progress, I am from curly hair and green and brown eyes, I am from open minds and confusion and stress.
I am from the boondocks, out in the country, I am from three houses in a row all my life, I am from chosen ignorance and isolation, From “You're ruining the party!” to “You lied to my wife!”
I am from pressure and overwhelming emotions, I am from smiles when times of pain call, I am from forced laugher and choked off screams, I am from tears that refuse to fall.
I am from agony in sharp lines and angles, From itty bitty keepers that burn on my skin, From friendly reminders of a dark red melody, From fading memories of my past closing in.
I am from strong faith, hope and unconditional love, I am from that state of mind that continues to gray, I am from within the Dark Angel's grasp, I am from God, but I have lost my way.
