Dear Journal...
The Beginning of a Really Long Story
Miranda sat at her computer desk, the side lamp on, suffusing the room in its soft glow. With a soft sigh, she stretched her slightly skinny arms above her head and arched her back as she stared at the screen. Certainly a most interesting person....

Two weeks beforehand, Miranda had been scanning an online community, trying to find other people with her interests, the occult, the unknown, the maybe. She'd left a post in a paranormal discussion group with little to no expectations for it to be answered. Expectations didnt even begin to cover what she managed to dredge up. There were the usual kids, the ones who wanted to be more than they were. The ones who liked to think they were part animal, part alien, vampires, werewolves, and furries all took the time to type up some sort of introduction to her. But then... then she had tripped across someone that might have just been legit. A guy... StarGazer.

Apparently he had some of the same issues she had had as a confused child. He had experiences to share. Advice to give. Other people he felt she should talk to, eventually. He had to trust her first. He had to know she was ready to take that step herself, he had said. So, every night for the past two weeks, she had logged on- EarthChild, and had patiently jump through his hoops. The things he had to share were, unbelievable. She sat stunned for a minute as she read his last post, her arms dropping to her side. There were things that existed that she had not really given much thought to. Frantically she typed back and answer before taking a sip of her Mt. Dew. This was nonsense really... But still.

StarGazer- there is a community you havent even dreamed of EC. A place where the creatures of the night truly exist. a place where people walk through walls, weave spells out of thin air, and read your mind with just a touch.

EarthChild- How can i believe you? I have always dreamed there was more, but as an adult, i know better SG. You wont even meet me outside this site. Why so secretive? What secrets could you possibly have?

StarGazer- Alot more than you think....

Do you want me to show you?

Miranda had to stop. It wasnt in her usually to try to force someone to meet up with her, and more than often people would refuse any contact offline. This person had completely thrown her off guard. He was actually offering to prove it all. Put up or Shut up? Leaning back in her chair with a creak, she stared out her bedroom window into the night, the light from the lamp glaring up the reflection in the glass. It could, after all, be interesting. She was new to the big bad city, and a friend couldnt hurt. Someone with her interests....

EarthChild- .............Yes. let me send you my phone number. You can call when you are ready. smile

She smiled to herself. She'd still give him a way out of the situation in case he wasnt really going to contact her. A way to save face and just say he didnt have time.

StarGazer- No need. we have been monitoring you for awhile. We have your number, your address, even. We know where you drink your coffee. I can see you sitting in your pink striped pajamas chewing your lip while you read this.

... i will call in ten.

Miranda read that with wide eyes. What?! Had this person hacked her personal information? Had this person been following her? Paranoia trembled up and down her spine, and as the idea set in, she swiveled to stare out the window again into the night with a gulp. Getting up she straightened the hem of her truly pink striped pajama shirt and closed the blinds to her apartment window. Walking into the living area she clicked the lock home and leaned against the door. There were people watching her? What sort of community was this, the mafia?! straightening her shoulders, she shrugged off her uneasiness. Surely it wasn't like she had stalkers. Walking into her kitchenette, she pulled out a glass and poured a healthy glass of water, bringing it to her lips.

Her phone rang once. it rang twice. the vibration that accompanied the song made it jump across the tiled counter where she had dropped it hours before. it rang again, as she stared at it, the broken glass tinkling as it hit linoleum. had she dropped it? her toes were wet as she picked up the phone and flicked it open.

"Hello?"
"Hello EarthChild, its StarGazer..."
"How did you get this number? Are you stalking me?" Her hand trembled and she forced herself to hold it still against her ear.
"Did you cut yourself? I couldnt tell."
'HOW did you get this number?!" She was getting a little angry now. This was ridiculous...
"I have the number because you gave it to me. No, i am not stalking you, that is not my job. My job is to talk. and that is exactly what i have been doing for you and for Them. Understand?"

"Hell no..." She picked her way around the carnage that was once a glass with flowers printed around the rim. "What do you want from me?" it was a simple question. They obviously wanted something if they were following her around, right?

"It's what you wanted from us, EarthChild. Will you meet me tonight?"
"I'm not so sure of that. Where?" If it was some dark alley, she wasnt chancing it. she would be safe no matter what. "The Dennys on 12th. You'll know it is me when you see me. I will be there around 12:30."

"StarGazer?...."

The line had gone dead. Her phone screen flickered twice as the call was disconnected. She stood staring at the phone in her pale hand, wondering how this could possibly be happening. This was creepy s**t.
