BOOK 1: Water
“Storm of Lightning!!” Two hands clasp together and pull apart showing a glow of blue light emerge. A sixteen year old girl grunts as she tries to not loose her concentration and maintain the ball of light under her control. As the ball grows bigger and bigger, she shoots it up into the air. The ball puffs out forming clouds and a giant thunderstorm begins, scorching the ground.
“YES” the girl screams in joy. “I’ve FINALLY mastered it! woo!~” She does a little dance in joy.
“Sukiko! Yo!” Sukiko turns around from the scorched brown dirt in front of her to her friend Riko, running towards her. Riko is dressed in the second class acolyte outfit.
“Hey Riko! I finally got it haha!” Sukiko squeals with glee. She and Riko high five and run towards the animal barns. While on the trail, they talk about their day’s spells.
“Yea I just finished Storm of Lightening and Heaven‘s Downpour” Sukiko says with pride in her voice.
“Nice. I got Fever Heal and Bubble Boost. Now we can go train in the woods!” Riko’s eyes shine with the thoughts of the adventure. Both the girls bubble with their day’s learning and reach the Animal Barn where pets and animals for medecine are kept. Almost every animal in the world of Lune bring protection and gift to healers and magic users. Sukiko brings forth her baby hawk, and tickles his chin.
“Awww!~ Kyon-kun looks so happy today too! Maybe he can feel my magic increasing!” Riko comes out of the padlock with her tiny white tiger cub, Mira-chan.
“Well the Augwesting Hawks are known for that you know, as well as Tears of Healing and Talon Saber. Just like my Basterian White Tiger can form magic shields and a Fang Dagger when raised correctly.” Riko states fully knowledgable of her animals. Sukiko rolls her eyes already hearing this thousands of times. They both walk outside and begin to train their Partners together.
A Partnership is a magic user and animal forming a bond of trust and loyalty. If the Partnership is successful, the animals and human are marked by similar shapes and can protect each other when fighting. Even in premature Partnerships, if a bond of Love is strong enough, the Partner will show their compassion by protecting their master. But Sukiko and Riko never saw their Partners in a Master/Partner relationship. They both love their Partners like family and practice forming routine attacks and ways to enhance each other’s ability.
After fooling around for a bit, Sukiko and Riko head off into town with their Partners. As they walk down the country dirt road, they pass a sign that reads “Sfea City”. as they head into the open market in the rustic homely town, a loud commtion ensues just a couple blocks away. Totally forgetting about shopping, Sukiko and Riko run down the street to the noise. As they reach the street, they stop and gape. Brunais where attacking! “W-w-what?! Brunais are ATTACKING?! Th-that never happens!” Riko shouts.
“Riko c’mon we have to go help!” Sukiko pulls the unbelieving Riko toward the villagers protecting themselves with pitchforks. ”You protect me and I’ll shoot” says Sukiko, snapping Riko back into the chaotic reality.
“Alright.” Riko takes in a deep breath to calm herself. With an experienced calmness, Riko casts “Bubble Boost!!” As soon as she shouts these words, thin, almost invisible bubbles appear covering Sukiko, Riko, and the defending villagers. The villagers pause and glance at Riko and Sukiko and smile. They know to back off so Sukiko can continue the team work.
Feeling the Brunais head in her direction, Sukiko begins to feel the magic in her amulet vibrate and smile. “Heaven’s Light!!”
A bright light shines around the block and half the town. No one can see anything excpet Sukiko looking through the Inner Eye, a hereditary gene passed in her family. Sukiko walks out of Riko’s spell. “Sukiko! NO! Where are you!?” Riko shouts trying to see through the light and expanding the bubbles to feel Sukiko, but Sukiko is already next to the Brunais. As the light begins to dim, Riko sees Sukiko petting the Brunais.
“It’s ok Riko. This spell just forces out evil black magic. I didn’t want to hurt the Bruanis because the economy of our town depends on their health.” Sukiko smiles at Riko. Riko smiles back knowing that Sukiko isn’t as dumb as people think in the first glance. Then they both realize that people are applauding at them. “No, no. No need to clap! We live here too so we’d need the Brunais to get to live too! Hehe” Sukiko tries to calm down the applauding crowd. As she walks to one of them she trips on a piece of broken off wood and hits the ground. “ouch! Woops!” The crowd begin to laugh at her clumsiness but in a nice neighborly way. As Sukiko begins to sit up, the Elders walk towards them, and all becomes quiet.
“Well done Sukiko and Riko. I see you’ve both been excelling at your magic. Now to all citizens, after an hour, we will have a council meeting! Thank you.” says the chief leader, an old woman in a blue shawl and white dress coverings. As she leaves, Sukiko and Riko begin going around the villagers to fix up the damage. As Riko heals the hurt, Sukiko uses rudimentary magic to fix wood, move spilled water, and smooth out the earth. They move the Brunais to their pen and when the hour passes, everyone heads for the Main Town Center.
Riko and Sukiko walk up the oak steps and into the largest conference room. With two large cedar tables set up to seat the Elders, and padded oak chairs for those who are listening. Balconies also line the walls and a microphone set in place. Everything quiets as the elder begins to speak. “Everyone, today was a very unusual event. The reason the Brunais have attacked must be because she is back” Several adults gasp in terror, but Sukiko and Riko are completely puzzled as are many children and young adults. ”Yes I know. The MoonFlame Witch is back. Adults, you must be careful of your house hold pets! Make sure to lock them up at night! Don’t have any unleashed or free. And make sure your children, especially those not at the Academy, are not wondering the woods at night. This is all the information we are able to receive. We shall send our two best magic users at the Academy to Metra, as the call for protection arises! If we see correctly we will send Sukiko and Riko to Metra. They both have shown their excellence in the town and have great teamwork together and with their Partners.” Many cries of approval shout up and Sukiko and Riko are patted by those near them. “Very well,” the elder continues, “We shall send them both by tomorrow. Sukiko and Riko please stop by the council after you have finished packing and saying your farewells. That is all for our town meeting.”
Everyone files out of the old Main Town Hall and Sukiko and Riko walk to the store now to buy some goods before leaving home. As they walk, they chat about who this whitch is and what to bring. They go over foods and equipments to pack, including food for their Partners.
