There was a book in his hand, worn and weathered, its cover rested in his pale palm near forgotten as his attention lay else where. He should have placed it on the glass top in front of him and let it rest in the manner he did; held up by curved iron and comfortably reclined as he once more waved the waitress away politely. Why was anyone still working? still pretending that normality existed? He questioned but cared little for any answer that might be reached. Things would play out much the way all events do, in their own time and place. Until then he had little to do but wait and watch much as he was now, though he hoped the future held more interesting spectacles then the one he was currently paying attention to across the street.

There as he could see it, was a lover's spat unfolding. Many a time had this drama played out as the insults and shouts were traded like the blows of a bar room brawl. Possessions were thrown, curses sworn and bystanders made uncomfortable as the anger with which the two combated escalated. The translucent wings of the woman buzzed behind her as the male's mane of golden fur bristled both in anger and petty spite, it was only a matter of time before hand to hand was reached Ira thought calmly to himself as he tugged a rolled cigarette from his pocket and made to light its tip.

"Oh sir, we don't permit smoking. You'll have to go out on the sidewalk if you want to do that." A timid voice informed him from behind the cafe's counter. Ira smiled softly and stowed the unlit cylinder, collecting his various objects off his table without a word in protest. As he went to pay his check the man who had informed him about the no smoking policy apologized making an effort explain that it wasn't his policy but the manager's. People, always so quick to deflect blame away from themselves. Such an unnecessary show too, nothing about Ira's behavior spoke of anger or ill will towards the portly man now handing over his change with shaking hands. Perhaps it was merely the situation and the tension that surrounded Ira where ever he went that had this man so on edge. Ira didn't think it had anything to do with his appearance, simple dark slacks and shirt, his hair pulled back out of his face so that his angular features were on display. His height might have been imposing sitting at a nice six foot two, but coupled with his willowy build it hardly registered as a threat for most people. Ira preferred it that way, if he were to appear imposing then he would have to work more to gain people's trust. Trust being one of the few things he actually worked for when it came to others.

"It's quite alright, No use fussing over other people's rules no?" Ira placated the man cheerfully before leaving and taking up a spot a block of so down the street, finding the cold steel of a lamp post surprisingly comfortable as he reclaimed the pleasure of smoking. "Here I was thinking there would be greater difference near the coming end." he muttered softly to himself. He couldn't see the quarreling couple from here but every view had its own high point, something he'd learned over the years. This vantage for instance was right in front of a most unusual building when compared to those on either side of it. Where the others were business orientated and reflected that in the physical aspect of their store fronts, the one directly in front of him boasted a far more elaborate decoration scheme. Angels and devils danced in marble that had been lovingly carved, the windows were blocked with heavy curtains formed of rich satin and the door itself a vibrant blue hue with a brass knocker larger than his head. He finished his cigarette before heading inside, no need to knock either as he was expected. Given that the building's sole resident was clairvoyant there were few people that passed through his doors that weren't in some way expected.

"Ah Ira I was expecting you!" A scratchy voice exclaimed over a pile of books much taller than the man speaking behind them who then came scuttling out in order to greet his guest.

b]"Aren't you always Miller? I don't think I've ever managed to surprise you in all the time we've known each other." Ira was quick to point out with a friendly chuckle to which the shorter and far younger man nodded.

"True true, so then I suppose there's no need to ask you what brings you today either. I was able to find it by the way. That book you were looking for, any chance you'd share why you wanted it thought? You know I'm no telepath and it is such a curious request coming from you." Miller pleaded slightly as he went back over to the pile of books he'd been behind seconds before and retrieved one much like one Ira had been holding earlier at the cafe.

"Not much to tell if you're looking for intrigue. I'm just curious about my siblings is all." Ira was being candid as he accepted to dust covered tome.

"Ah that makes sense, I haven't heard much about the other sins lately. no one's been as active as you have since the announcement about the end was made."

"They're just biding their time I'm sure, can't imagine they feel like flaunting their plans until we know what the otherside has up their sleeves first." Such a casual conversation with such unusual content. The struggle between he and his siblings would come to the forefront soon he knew but the question was how and when... always how and when.
