Chapter 6: Emotions
“I don’t care!” Mia shouted. “That doesn’t give him an excuse to practically make out with me when he doesn’t even know my name!”

“I do too know your name!” Tristan shouted back, a hint of steam shooting out of his ears. “Your name is Mia Coldcreek. You’re seventeen years old, an orphan, and your first love was Steve Miller in kindergarten!”

Mia’s eyes widened. She pointed an accusing finger at Tristan. “You STALKER!” She shouted. “And I didn’t really like Steve. I just wanted him for his crayons! He had the one hundred and two pack with the free sharpener!” She defended.

This statement brought another wave of laughter on Draco and Aleana. Draco composed himself and walked up beside Mia, placing a gentle yet firm hand on her shoulder. “Mia, listen. Tristan being Fire actually does give him an excuse.” Mia opened her mouth to argue but was stopped by Draco laying a finger to her lips. “Let me Explain. The elements play a bigger role than you think. Not only do we keep all the elements and sub-elements in order, but we also deal with the natures of humans and creatures. Each element has emotions and a title other than their element. I, for example, have the emotions of fear and courage. I help people understand and face their fears and lend them courage in times of great need. My title is the Protector, for whenever something evil slips out of the plains of suffering it is my job to send them back. Tristan is the Eternal Lover. His emotions are love and hate. Now can you understand why he kissed you? It’s just in his nature.”

Mia pondered this for awhile and then nodded. “I think I can understand.” She said slowly. “What about Aleana and Seraphim?” Mia asked.

Draco smiled. “I knew you’d ask me that. Aleana is the Freedom Child. She deals with the emotions joy and sorrow. Seraphim is the Tutor and deals with the emotions curiosity and ignorance.”

“And what about Water and Earth?” Mia asked.

Draco’s smile grew even wider. “You’ll just have to wait and see.”

Chapter 5: Fire
Mia tried to sit up as for the first time feeling the weight of the boy on top of her. His eyes seemed to change from ruby to molten lava and back to ruby, dancing a hypnotizing dance. His hair was a flaming orange, doing the same strange dance as his eyes, like the flicker of flames. Even his body seemed abnormally warm. His skin also had that same shimmering beauty as Draco, Seraphim, and Aleana’s.

“Who are y-” She began to question indignantly but she was cut off by his lips smothering hers in smoldering kiss. He drew back, her lips and face feeling as if they were on fire. He gazed down at her and his face slowly formed into a kind of half smirk half smile.

SMAK!

He fell off of her and from the bed hitting the floor with a thump. He glared up at her. “What’d you do that for?” He asked, rather indignantly.

She opened her mouth and began to scream. “Help! There’s a pervert in my room!”

No more than two seconds later the door had been flung open, Draco standing tense in its frame. Draco looked down at the boy on the floor and relaxed. Draco picked him up by the scruff the neck and turned to Mia. “Is this your pervert?”

Mia nodded vigorously. Draco dropped him unceremoniously onto the floor and busted into peels of laughter. The boy scowled up at him and got quickly to his feet, smoothing his clothing. “I don’t see what I did wrong. I heard sobbing so I came in to comfort her and then she slaps me!” He whined, throwing his hands in the air.

“The perv kissed me!” Mia yelled, pointing an accusing finger at the boy. By this time Aleana had been drawn to the scene of the “crime”. She was laughing along with Draco.

“Gee, Tristan, just can’t keep your hands to yourself can you?” Draco said, trying to qualm his laughter.

“Or his lips.” Added Aleana. This brought on a new wave of laughter.

After stifling every last giggle Draco turned toward Mia.

“Mia, this is Tristan. The element of Fire.”

Chapter 4: The Nightmare

Mia gazed at the strange girl who giggled and winked at her. “She’s cute.” Said Aleana. Mia felt Draco come up and wrap a protective arm around her shoulder releasing a menacing growl from deep in his throat. “Okay, okay lover boy, I’ll leave her be.” Aleana said while folding her arms over her chest, her lips in a prominent pout.

Suddenly, Mia felt her vision swim and her knees give way. Draco gripped her firmly, a look of worry on his face. “Mia, are you alright?” Mia straightened herself while trying to regain her balance.

“I’m fine, I’m just really tired.” She said woozily.

“Of course. I’ll take you upstairs to a room so that you can sleep.” Draco scooped Mia up into his arms, carrying her bridal style, and began climbing the winding staircase.

When they reached the first landing he opened the first door and laid her on a big cushy bed. “Night Mia.” He said softly as the door quietly clicked shut. Mia closed her eyes and immediately was carried off to sleep.

Mia sat on a couch in front of a softly glowing TV, snuggling into Draco’s chest. Her parents were downstairs, probably doing the exact same thing, but she didn’t care, nothing mattered except for the warmth of Draco’s body pressed against her’s. He was absent mindedly stroking her hair as he leaned forward, his breath tickling her ear, to whisper softly “I love you Mia.”

She leaned back to kiss his cheek and whisper back “I love you too.”

She had never been happier until everything was shattered.

A loud bang came from downstairs as the door was slammed open. There was her parents screaming, gun fire, and then silence. Draco pushed her off him and placed her behind the couch with a whispered “stay down and out of sight.” There was another louder crash as our door was thrown open. A harsh voice yelled “Tell me where the money is or I’ll kill you!” There was a whoosh and pathetic squeal followed by gunfire and then dead silence.

Mia sat there, her heart pounding, for what seemed like eternity whilst she waited for either the faceless madman to come find her or Draco to tell her everything was fine. Mia received neither.

Mia shakily got to her feet and turned around. She opened her mouth and the most horrible scream tore from her throat. Tears burned at her eyes as she saw Draco lying on the floor, scarlet pooling around him.

She felt herself being shaken roughly. She opened her eyes, still sobbing, and found two flaming ruby eyes staring into her own emerald ones.

Chapter 3: Wind

Mia looked wide eyed at the grand palace that lay before her. "This is your home now?" She asked, dumb founded by its grandeur.

"It can be your home too if you want." Draco whispered softly, wrapping his arms around her waist. Turned her head to look at him. He looked as beautiful as ever. He was cloaked in what appeared to be a garment made of darkness itself. Woven into the fabric was shimmering strands of moonlight. He smiled down at her.

Suddenly a harsh voice broke through their trance. "No, absolutely not!" They turned to see that Seraphim was glaring at them.

"Well why not?" Draco asked, returning her glare.

"Humans are not allowed to live in our world. Remember how much you had to beg The Guardian to allow you just to visit and bring her here?"

"Well once The Guardian has met her I'm sure they wouldn't mind." He said softly, slumping his shoulders into a dejected position. He looked like a child that had been caught doing something wrong. While they had been talking they had walked into the palace. Mia was too busy gazing around her to pay much attention to the argument.

Suddenly Mia felt a gust of wind and then she was propelled into the air. Something light as a feather was pressing against her body, its arms wrapped around her neck. She felt a fleeting sensation of something brushing gently against her lips. She gazed dazed in front of her and was looking into mischievous pale blue eyes.

"Aleana! Bring her back down her right now!" Draco's voice cut through the air, shouting indignantly.

"Awww," said a sweet musical voice that sounded like the wind blowing through the air, "But I want to have some fun with our visitor. I haven't been so close to a human in a hundred years!" Mia feet made contact with the ground and she stumbled backwards. The figure in front of her was a thin girl that looked like at any moment she would be blown away. Her short wispy white hair blew in a nonexistent wind. She walked towards Mia, those same mischievous eyes sparkling with excitement. She looked to be about her age, maybe a year younger. Like Draco and Seraphim she was abnormally beautiful in her pale skin. The girl stretched out her hand towards Mia.

"Hello Mia. I'm Aleana, the element of wind."

Chapter 2: Light

"Darkness." The word lay on her lips as it came out in a whisper. "What kind of name is that?" She moved slightly closer to the boy. She could not see his face but the voice was familiar.

"It’s not my name but what I am now." He closed the space between them in a single stride. She could now make out his face. Mia gasped as she saw the face of the boy in her picture. The boy smiled and crouched beside her. "Yes, Mia, I'm back."

"Draco?" Mia whispered. "I-I-I thought you were dead."

"I was." He said. "But I was reborn as the element darkness, but I am still Draco."

Mia looked at his face. She flung her arms around him and cried the tears of all the years they'd been apart. She felt something wet fall onto her back and relised he was crying too.

They stayed like that in silence until Mia broke it. "Reborn, as darkness." She drew back. "Are there other elements?"

"Yes. Infact one is coming to help me take you home." Draco replied.

At that point a bright light fills the cave. A woman lands on the entrance of the cave. A bright light radiates from her. Judging by her features she was two or three years older than them.

"Is this her?" Asked the woman with a gesture towards Mia.

"Yeah." Draco said as he stood and helped Mia up. "I kind of wanted Fire, though."

"He was busy." Light sniffed while crossing her arms over her chest. "Well, aren't you going to introduce me?"

Draco rolled his eyes as he sighed. "Mia, this is Seraphim, Light. Seraphim, this is Mia."

"Charmed, now shall we get on with it?"

"Yeah." Draco and Seraphim placed one hand on Mia's shoulders. In a cyclone of light and dark they vanished from the cave and landed at the gates of a giant palace.

"Where are we?" Mia gasped as she looked up at the palace.

"Home."

Chapter 1: Darkness

The night was stormy and cold. The rain beat at Mia's window sill repeatedly. Mia rolled over in bed, her eyes wide open. Her hand had landed on a picture frame. Inside the frame was a picture of her and a boy of about her age. A small tear dropped onto the glass as Mia stared at it. She swung her legs out of bed. She stood and walked to the balcony doors. She pushed the door open and stepped out into the rain. It quickly soaked through her clothes leaving her damp and cold on the outside just as she was on the inside. She hauled herself up onto the roof where she laid down, quiet and content.

She did not notice the great shadow coming over the horizon. Mia felt a great gust of wind and then she was jerked up into the talons of a large creature. The thing was some kind of cross between a dragon and every bird of pray imaginable. Mia could not find breath to scream as the creatures talons squeezed her torso and seemed to crush her ribs. With in minutes they were far away from the manor and city. They flew over vast country side. They came to a range of mountains. The creature made a sharp steep dive into the mountains. It landed at the entrance to an exceptionally large cave and dropped Mia. Mia scrambled far away from the creature, breathing heavily.

"What the hell are you?" She flung the words at the creature like an attack. The creature slowly made its way toward her. It began to shift and change to where it slowly became a naked human boy crouching in front of her. Mia stared at him as he rose to his feet.

"I am Darkness."
