Preface of Dreams

I screamed as I was slowly being driven insane. Every night, it was happening every night now. Why couldn’t I control it? I could never control anything before so what made now so different? What was even the point of sleeping if I only got an hour of it at a time? I screamed again as I was sucked deeper into the nightmare.
The fire was everywhere, it surrounded me. Its glistening orange flames were the most beautiful things I had ever seen. The rippling of it against the wind was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard. Fire was my true ally, the one who could never betray me. However, there was one thing more beautiful than the fire.
The shadow of a boy revealed itself through the flames. With my relaxed state, the fire died away to reveal the boy. His hair was white as snow and his eyes were blue as the ocean, glowing. His skin was pale, almost white, but it looked as if it had more color than it did because of the paleness of his hair. He had the name of a bird, but for some reason, I couldn’t remember. It was one of the most majestic birds out there but no matter what, I could not remember.
He smiled as the flames died away. The small curve of his lips made his entire face brighten up. I missed that smile. Yet, how could I miss it if I didn’t even know it? His eyes glittered in the moon light. It was night here. There was a half moon and no stars. The trees that surrounded us blew in the wind, along with our clothes and hair. He mouthed something that I couldn’t understand read.
“What?” I asked, thinking that he only needed to speak up. He closed his eyes and smiled wider. He opened his eyes again and this time I heard his whisper in my ear as if he were standing right next to me.
“I’m almost there,” the whisper sounded in my ear. The fire started up again and the boy disappeared.
“Wait!” I called after his smoke. He was already gone. The fire subsided again and instead of being in the same dark woods, I found myself in a large white room. The ceiling was high above my head and my hand rested on a long silver table. There were four metal chairs at the table too. They didn’t look very comfortable but since when was I used to that?! Above me, there was a huge black window on the white wall. I knew it was one of those one-way windows. The kind they used when they interrogated a suspect on a Crime Scene Investigation show.
Someone was watching me. I didn’t know who, but they were getting a twisted kick out of my just being there. I glared up at the window, knowing they could see me and then I smiled. The fire returned again. This time, instead of just licking at my skin, it burned. It hurt so bad I started screaming. There was no…control.
