Samuel sat down at the chairs outside of the room. Zane continued to pace back and forth. Then Zane stopped and raised his head. He heard the sound of running footsteps coming closer. He got in front of his brother, Samuel. A blonde came coming down the hall. He immediantly stopped when he saw the two. He started to take in breaths.
"How-how is she?" The blonde asked.
"Fay......she's dying." Samuel whispered.
"No....." Fay said.
Fay turned around and walked to the door. But Zane rushed up and stopped him. He shook his head.
"I"m sorry you can't save her." Zane managed to say.
"Get out the way!" Fay shouted.
But Zane wouldn't budge, as Fay pushed him.
"I thought you loved her!" Fay shouted.
"I-I do! Don't you think I care!" Zane cried.
"Me too! So get out the way." Fay replied.
"Please--" Samuel tried to say.
"Shut up!" Fay & Zane shouted at him.
Samuel brushed past both of them and opened the door. His green eyes looked at the pale girl in the bed. He walked up to her and sat down in the chair. Fay & Zane managed to stop fighting and came inside the room. They all looked down at the pale girl with the black hair. Samuel took her hand and squeezed it. Please wake up, he thought.
Then a flicker of movement came. Her eyes opened revealing beautiful blue eyes. They blinked rapidly and Fay knelt beside her bed. "I'm sorry, I'm late." He whispered.
"I-It's okay." She smiled then she patted him on the head. But she coughed up some blood.
"What happened while I was gone?" Fay asked.
Raven opened her mouth to speak, but Zane beat her to it.
"Some vampire hunter saw us. We started to fight and by chance he stabbed her in the heart." Zane explained with no emotion.
"I guess people can't stay away from me," Raven smiled.
"You got that right." Fay agreed.
She coughed up some more blood, but Samuel just wiped it away. Raven began to get paler.
"Here, drink my blood." Zane and Fay both said. They glared at each other. Both Raven and Samuel smiled at each other and sighed.
"No, I'm fine." She smiled.
Then her body began to turn into shimmering light.
"Wait!! What's happening!?" Fay asked.
"She's dying! Isn't it obvious!?" Zane choked out.
"I'll miss you guys." She smiled.
"No!!" They all yelled.
Finally her last shimmer of light vanished and Raven was no longer there.
"NOOO!WHY!! WHY!!" Fay yelled and cried.
Both Samuel and Zane stayed quiet. Then a figure appeared. A flash of light came and Raven stood there in a white dress. She looked as stunned as the guys did.
"How?" Samuel whispered.
Raven shrugged and huge, massive black angel wings came out of her back. The wings had gold on them.
"What are you now?" Zane asked.
Raven opened her mouth, but Fay beat her to it. Again.
"She's a dark angel." Fay said.

Entrance Numero Dos!
Characters: Emma Callahan, Jane Callahan, Sammy Carson and Nate Bugzly

Forever
Many years ago, ten to be exact, Jane Callahan found a young girl deep in Rock House preservation of West Brookfield, Massachusetts. Her name was Emma, and she was four.
“Where are your mommy and daddy?” Jane asked.
“They’re gone.” The little five-year-old said innocently.
“Are you a foster child?”
“Yeah… why do you care?” She glared at the young woman.
“Do you want to come home with me?” The woman was shocked with herself. She was only Twenty five! She didn’t want a kid! But… she couldn’t just leave her there.
“I’ll go anywhere as long as it’s not back to that place.”
“Only to get the papers. Now come, let’s get you home.” Little Emma smiled. She picked up the backpack that was hidden behind the bush and slung it over her shoulder. There was a small mew from behind, and she bent down and picked up the very, very young black kitten.
“What is that?” Jane asked, shrilly and afraid.
“This is Zodiac. He’s my partner in crime.”
“Okaaay? He’s coming with us isn’t he?” She said flatly. Jane was not fond of animals. Especially cats.
“Yep.” She sighed.
“Fine, now let’s go. We need to get you settled and legalized.” She put on a welcoming smile, even though she had no idea what she was doing.

Once Emma was Jane’s to take care of, she found out why she hated the Foster Home. You see, Emma was not your average four-year-old. Instead of playing with make up, she played with mud. She hated dolls, and loved her books and notebooks. She didn’t fit in, in school. Long walks were her favorite, and she climbed (and occasionally fell out of) trees. Emma immediately befriended the little boy, Nate Bugzly, who lived down the road a piece. Those two were inseparable. They would explore West Brookfield and the Bed and Breakfast Jane owned and lived at. When they got older, they would play guitar at the Fiddle Center in East Brookfield. Guitar and music was one of her favorite things… that, and reading. Oh and she read, and read, and read. She read when ever she could find the time to. She wasn’t like the other girls of the town at all. They all would talk about dolls and play pretend, but not Emma. She would read in the branches of trees or make mud pies with Nate. Soon the little girl ventured into the world of punk and rock music. She was the only one of the kindergarteners to know who Pete Townsan or Frank Zappa was. Average, she was not.
Ten years later
Fifteen-year-old Nate parked his bike in the great tarred driveway of Callahan’s B&B. He walked inside as if he lived there, and said hello to the very few guests that stayed on a Sunday in February. Almost bumping into Ms. Callahan, he said,
“Oh! Hey Ms. C! Is Emma here?”
“Yeah she’s upstairs in her room. Go on up… did you ride your bike here?”
“How else would I have gotten here? Plus, the snow is melting faster than last year. Spring is on its way!” He said excitedly. To him and Emma, spring was the best season. Everything came out in the springtime.
“Yeah, it is Nate… go see Emma.” She smirked; he nodded at her respectively and dashed to her room. He snuck around the corner, and to the open door of her room. There she was… she lied on her stomach, with an open book in her hands. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds played from her iHome. Her long brown hair tumbled onto her back and onto her hammock. He got ready to run.
“EMMA!!!!!” He yelled running and jumping. He landed on her back, and she flipped over, pushing him onto the wooden floor, her on top. The hammock flipped over and spun around, tying itself into a knot. The pillow and blankets on top of it flipped over and landed on the sleeping cat. He stood and ran right over Nate’s face. His eyes widened as he noticed the spoon at his neck, like a dagger. Emma panted; her violet eyes were lit with a small, yet familiar, fire.
“Oh. It’s just you. Sorry ‘bout that!” she said once she realized she had just tackled her best friend. She rolled off of him, and stood up.
“Aw, that’s fine. But a spoon? Really, Emma. You need to get a better weapon than that.” He stood and dusted himself off. He shook his head vigorously, and his blondish brown hair waved around.
“Hey! I was eating a pear, so I had a spoon. I eat pears with spoons. Is there something wrong with that?”
“Well… usually, people with braces eat pears with knives.” He pointed out.
“Then I guess I’m not a usual person then! So ‘sup man?” she asked brushing her hair from her eyes.
“We planned to hang out today! You didn’t forget, did you?”
“No, I didn’t forget. I meant in general, like, a ‘hey ‘sup? Not much’ not a ‘hey ‘sup why are you here.’”
“You swear?” she sighed.
“Yes I swear. Pinky Swear even.” He reached out his hand, pinky extended, and she hooked her pinky onto hers. “Jeebus, man, we gotta work on that whole insecurity thing!”
“Insecurity, my butt! I just don’t want what happened last time to happen again!”
“Last time?” she asked confused. She cocked her head and stared into his green eyes, like she always did when she was confused.
“You know, with the luau and the grass skirt where you-”
“-Oh yeah… that one…” she blushed remembering the embarrassing incident. “ANYWAY… let me get some shoes and a sweatshirt, and we can go.” She grabbed two extremely mismatched socks, put those on, and then slipped into her orange converse. Nate tossed her a jean jacket that was hanging on the back of the chair of her unorganized desk. The two walked downstairs, and were stopped at the base by Jane.
“What was that sound?!” she demanded.
“Which one?” Emma asked nonchalantly.
“The loud thump on your bedroom floor!!” she was almost yelling. An old man who was playing chess with another guest stared at her. She turned around and smiled warmly at them. “The loud thump on your bedroom floor!!” she yell-whispered again.
“He jumped me, and then I flipped him and me off my hammock, and onto the floor.” Emma said, without showing much emotion. It’s the best way to explain something funny to an adult that they wouldn’t like much. Jane sighed.
“Why do you guys do this?”
“Do what?” Nate and Emma said simultaneously.
“Practice combat skills on an everyday basis!!”
“You never know… we aren’t your normal kids. I thought you would notice this by now. I mean JEEZ mom, it’s been… what eleven years since you found me in Rock House? I mean…”
“O.K Emma, I get it. Go on your bike ride, and be back before sunset. K?”
“K mum. Love ya, bye!” Emma said, grabbing her backpack from the hook on the wall. She and Nate walked out the big wooden doors. Nate grabbed his bike, and wheeled it over to the garage where Emma was getting hers. The melting snow and muddied ground made the air smell earthy and spring like. They each put on their helmets, and then were off.

“Two meatball grinders please.” Nate said. He and Emma were in West Brookfield’s pizza place, P’n’S. It was the best in the area.
“Toasted?” The pizza guy asked
“Please, and with cheese.”
“Comin’ right up.” Nate nodded and smiled. He went over to the table that Emma resigned at, and as usual, she was reading.
“Watcha’ reading?” He asked her. She marked her page, closed the book, and looked up at him. Her hair was behind her ears with a few strands hanging in her face. She grinned and said,
“I was reading The Odyssey.”
“Again? Isn’t this like the twelfth time you’ve read it?”
“Yes, but it’s a good book!”
“We’re supposed to read that in like two months in school. Why read it now?”
“Cuz’ the Gods rock my socks!” Emma exclaimed. Just as Nate was going to make a snide comment that would have led them into a fake argument, Sammy Carson came through the door. Sammy was Nates girlfriend. She had medium length black hair that is always tied in a ponytail, a somewhat pointy nose, and full lips. Her eyelashes are long, and her skin is perfect. She is perfect. Emma’s hand subconsciously went to her chin where she had a seemingly noticeable pimple. Nate smiled sweetly at her. He stood, and went over to her. They kissed on the lips, and he invited her to have lunch with them. Emma frowned. It wasn’t like she was jealous of them; she just got bad vibes from her. That and she had seen her with several guys just that weekend. All of them were kissing her the way Nate had… but some a little… more so. She was a tramp, and Emma didn’t want to see him get hurt for loving the wrong person. Nate was a good person, and liked her for her personality and beauty. Sammy liked him because he was good looking and obeyed her. She was leading him on like a dog on a leash. Emma wished she could tell him, but she just didn’t know how.
Sammy must have refused, because he came back to the table, and she left. Nate was still smiling, looking like an escaped mental patient.
“She rocks… doesn’t she?” He said in a daze. He smelled like her perfume from the quick embrace. Emma put on a happy mask to show that she wasn’t hiding anything.
“Yeah man, she’s awesome.” Fortunately for her, the Pizza Guy called out,
“Two meatball grinders!!”
“I’ll get them” she said, standing up. Nate stopped her by putting his hand on hers.
“Wait, I’ll pay. Here.” He fished out a twenty and handed it to her.
“You rock, man.” She smiled at him and he smiled back. She went to get the grinders and he leaned back in his seat. He was so grateful to have Emma as a friend. He knew this thought shouldn’t even cross his mind, but he thought she was so pretty. He loved how her hair glimmered in any light, even dark. Her violet eyes mesmerized him. But then he remembered the gorgeousness of his sweet Sammy. His new mental image was of her. But still, somewhere in the depths of his mind, the admiration for Emma stayed.
She returned to the table and put down the grinders and two Cokes. She happily said,
“Two Grinders and two Cokes. Hey… you know what I just realized?”
“What?” Nate replied while opening a soda
“Tomorrows Monday, vacation ends and, we have to go back to school.”
“Screw school.” He replied. Emma smiled and held up her open Coke.
“Screw school.” And they crashed the sodas together, sending sugary droplets everywhere.

They finished their lunches, and mounted back on their bikes. The warm day was growing colder, and they decided to end their day on the town beach. They rode down the steep hill, and then, all hell broke loose.
A big Mac truck that was stopped on the side road came out as soon as they rode past. Emma yelled for Nate to look out, and dove out of the way. Nate though, he wasn’t as lucky. The truck slammed into him, and he was tossed into the air and landed on the grass. She memorized the license plate of the truck, and ran over to Nate. His leg was bent in a way it wasn’t supposed to go. She cradled his head in her lap and called the paramedics. As she waited for them to come, she comforted Nate. He was crying heavily, and his face was cut up and bleeding.
“Shh, they’re coming… shh… you’ll make it. Hush. When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me… speaking words of wisdom, let it be…” She whispered between sobs. She sang to comfort him, the song she chose was Let It Be, by the Beatles, but the song in her head was 21 Guns by Greenday. As she sang, he blacked out, unconscious. He wasn’t dead, he was still breathing, she checked. Emma continuously mopped the blood off his face with her shirt. It had all happened so fast, it was hard for her to explain what happened to the paramedics, but when they told her she couldn’t come, her fire returned.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN’T COME!?!?!” she yelled at them.
“We mean there isn’t enough room in the ambulance.” The woman replied.
“Nathaniel Thomas Bugzly is my absolute BEST friend! You would need me there! Good golly Miss Molly!! I even know his blood type!! He would want me there! PLEASE!!!!!”
“For goodness sakes child! Don’t freak on us! You can come! Just stay out of the way!” and with that, they were off.

Nate opened his eyes to see a dark room. He looked around groggily, and saw there were wires going under a quite revealing hospital gown that he wore. He unbuttoned the three buttons near his neck, and saw that the wires were attached to his chest with medical tape. He blinked long and hard.
“What the heck…?” he murmured. Emma stirred in the uncomfortable chair in the corner and he looked over at her. She was soundly sleeping under a window with hospital shades. The walls that surrounded the room were a bland white, and the beeping machine next to him showed that his heart was still beating. It said that it was 3:30 in the morning. There was a table next to him with a thick book, probably Emma’s. He tried to sit up, but he couldn’t because his body hurt so badly. He looked toward the edge of his bed, and saw his leg in a cast that went up to his thigh. It was propped up with a sling that was attached to the ceiling. This was too much for him to handle, so he fell back to sleep with a whopping headache.
The next time he woke up, he saw Emma’s bright violet eyes, and her fretting look staring at him from right above his face. She smiled greatly when he opened his eyes. He felt her cold hand in his. She leaned back in her chair without letting go, and said,
“Mornin’ sleepy head! How do you feel?”
“Like I was hit by a truck Em.” He replied, enjoying the feeling of their hands together.
“You were. Do you know where you are now?”
“Limbo?” he guessed. He turned just his head to look at her, not his full body though. His leg was still being elevated, and he was still hooked up, so he basically couldn’t move anything but.
“Wrong, you’re in Mary Lane. What do you remember?” He thought hard, and dug up the memories of that day.
“Umm… I remember riding my bike down Lake Street, being whammed into a solid metal something, a terrible pain in my leg, someone’s singing, and then… this. Hey… what day is it? Aren’t you supposed to be in school?”
“Good memory. Oh and it’s Monday, schools over, and I skipped. As you said, screw school. I’m here with my best buddy, making sure he doesn’t die on me! Where would you rather be? Making sure your best friend doesn’t die, or in school?”
“Good point…” Nate agreed. My god, Emma ditched school for me… she isn’t a ditcher… just a homework skipper! She tried her hardest to make sure I didn’t die before the paramedics got there, and stayed over night in a hospital without parental supervision. He thought. He definitely owed her one… or more than one. He looked at her again, and noticed she seemed to be glowing. Sunlight burst from the open shades, and surrounded her. Her brown hair was tied up with a bright, psychedelic, paisley scarf. Her soft violet eyes sparkled under makeup-less lashes, and she wore one of his shirts. Hers was covered in his blood and shoved in her backpack, but he didn’t have to know that. He thought she looked beautiful. He didn’t care that he had a girlfriend, he thought she was stunning. For a second, he thought greatly for the first time in a few days. He clutched both her hands in his, and said,
"Em, will you have Sammy come for me?" Her brow furrowed, and she went to the door and opened it.
“Come on in. He’s up.” Sammy burst open the door, making it crash into Emma, and ran to Nate’s side. She wore a bright purple, skintight shirt and a black miniskirt. Her perfume was so strong it filled the room in an instant. Emma mumbled something about going to get a sandwich and left. Sammy stole her chair and smiled, her eyes wincing in disgust.
She really didn’t want to be there. She didn’t like hospitals. All the hurt and sick people there made her think she could obtain their germs and get all “gross”. Nate was now more useless than before she decided to use him as a servant and a person to make her old boyfriend jealous. I shouldn’t be here right now, she thought, I should be getting ready for my date with Chad. You see, Chad was a boy she thought was hot, and a boy she actually liked. He was also her other boyfriend. But he didn’t go to Quaboag with Emma and Nate, he went to Tantasqua, so he didn’t know about Nate, and Nate didn’t know about him. She planned to break up with Nate as soon as the big history project ended (Nate was great at history, and she asked him to be her partner, which is basically saying he does the project while she watches.). But she would just have to wait.
"Listen Sammy, this can't go on any longer." Oh no. Sammy thought. He knows, and my cover's been blown.
“Oh my god Nate… It’s not what you think, tr-trust me!” Her cover had been blown, and she didn’t know how to get herself out of this one.
"Huh?" he asked, perfectly confused. Her eyes widened in his obliviousness. He then realized, that she had been cheating. "You've been cheating... haven't you?" He said, getting angry, trying to sit up. He couldn't, so he just leaned on his elbows.
"I-" she started, and then decided otherwise. "Yeah, I have. Do you wanna know why? You’re boring, ok? You’re so friggen boring! I mean, you don’t want to do anything, and you suck at being a boyfriend!” She began to yell..
“Oh really, since when?” He hissed.
“Since… forever! You know why I’m dating you right? It’s because you do things for me. You are doing my history report, and my book report. Oh, don’t even forget the honors science project, you know, creating that car and all. I can’t believe you didn’t even notice that you did all the work! Jesus, Mary, Joseph and his amazing Technicolor Dream Coat! You are so friggen oblivious!”
“You know why I did those things? Because I thought I loved you! But no! I never even liked you! Oh, and I noticed you are using your verbs in the present tense, shouldn’t that be past? Since you and I are through.” He paused and smirked, “You haven’t realized that have you?”
“Wait… you’re dumping me?” she said suddenly quiet. She had never been the dump-ee, but the dumper
“Whaddaya think? Yes I’m dumping you! Wow, you’re slow.”
“I’m slow?! You’re the one that hasn’t realized that I’ve been cheating on you since, like, last September! God!” Nate gritted his teeth, and resisted the urge to punch her in the face. He closed his eyes, counted to ten, and opened them again. She was still there. He sighed angrily, and said,
“You know what Sammy? Go. Just take your stuff and go. We’re through, and that’s that. Now leave.” She opened her mouth to say something, and then picked up her purse and left.
“Go die in a hole.” She said bluntly, and then walked out the door. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. While lying back down, Emma came in with ice on her eye.
"I heard -and felt-"she gestured to her eye "what happened. You ok?" She sat on her chair and put down the ice.
"Fine..." he thought, and then pulled her in for a hug and a gentle kiss.
"What was that for?" She said, trying to hide her jubilous smile. All she wanted to do was: blaugh
"For being a great friend. I love you Em." She hugged him back and didn't let go. Into his shoulder, she said,
"Love you too, forever."
