This is something I wrote for my girlfriend while I was falling asleep in class.
heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart
She woke in a storm and found her bed empty
And there was a note thumbtacked to the door:
"You're not good enough for me, and I've found someone who'll be
A better lover than you've ever been before."
She mourned her loss alone, locking life and love inside
And knew she'd never find a woman quite like who she missed;
And though the months turned into years and all that time went by
She knew the thing she'd always know was her perfect angel's kiss.
She waited for her love forever; faithfully alone she wept
And sent a message to her angel every night before she slept.
She said, "My arms are always open for you, my love,
No matter where you go or how far you run away
And there well may come a time
When all that's good in life is laid to rest
But for now I'm here for you and I'll never leave."
Years of loneliness passed her by, ever dream-like and slow.
Shadows of her angel's eyes plagued her recurring dreams.
Then late one night the rain was falling, much as it had years ago
And all the pain she'd felt those years left her, a lover, it seems.
That night the window opened up and someone crawled inside,
And someone curled up next to her; her tears fell on her breast.
She smiled and held the woman close and both of them just cried.
She knew her prayers had reached her loverr, and together they could rest.
She'd waited for her love forever; faithfully alone she'd wept
And now she knew the joy of all those years her heart was kept.
She said, "My arms are always open for you, my love,
No matter where you go or how far you run away
And there well may come a time
When all that's good in life is laid to rest
But for now I'm here for you and I'll never leave."
That night her heart was happier than it had been in years
As she realized she'd made her love know she was right for her.
After a long day outside, her mother finally said, "Come here.
It's time to come back home now. You've done your job for sure."
She smiled and let a single tear of happiness escape
As she gently roused her lover, mother to her baby deer.
Her angel's eyes looked up at her, blue as a mountain lake,
And she gently stroked her hair and whispered softly in her ear.
She said, "My arms are always open for you, my love,
No matter where you go or how far you run away.
And, Angel, now has come the time
When it is my turn to be laid to rest.
It's time for me to guard you from above."
They knew they'd refused to die without one more night together,
And that was why they'd held on for so long, their whole forever.
Her angel touched her lips with love and tears built up with ease,
And she smiled again and hugged her and her dying words were these.
She said, "My wings will always keep you warm, my love,
No matter where you go or how far you run away,
And my soul will light your path
To the Summerland above.
I'm watching over you, my love,
And I'll always... love... you..."
