Episode #3
When we last saw our hero he had just finished escorting Raydea, the beautiful Elven Tigress, to her home hidden deep inside a massive forest along with the aid of magic. Though the journey was treacherous and lives were lost, and more than once did our heroes feel conquered... in the end they reached their destination only to have been greeted with spears and a jail cell.
Kin: What is it about us that we become so popular so quickly? (Notices that Cutie doesn’t seem all that fazed about their present surroundings) I mean just what is it that deems us to be greeted wherever we go with spears and swords and arrows and...
Cutie: Umm, no one has shot arrows at us. Why are you always such a downer anyways?
Kin: Are you kidding me? Look at us! We’re incarcerated and we haven’t been charged with anything.
A few hours pass by then Raydea enters the holding block and orders their release. Their weapons and items are returned and all seems well for the most part. Raydea seems very quiet and distant, more than usual… especially on the quiet part.
Every time Kin tries to look Raydea in the eyes she turns away, almost in pain to even look at him.
Kin: Is something wrong Ray? You look troubled for someone that has been returned to her loving home. Which, by the way, I would like to thank you for getting us out of jail. Man, you must know how to pull some strings or something. So what exactly are you in this little city anyways?
Raydea: (almost snappish) What do you mean, I’m not anyone very special here.
Kin: (caught somewhat off guard by the quick and sharp response very much unexpected)
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to offend you. I was just wondering what your folks do for a living… that’s all.
Raydea: Oh... sorry. They uh, work at the council house. Not very big stuff. Small things and what not. (starts to walk a bit faster now almost as if she’s trying to get away)
Kin: Hey hold up. Well when can I meet them? Perhaps they know a few things about the sphere pieces or something. I mean how long have you been away from here, they must be worried about you or something.
Before Raydea could say anything two nobles address both Raydea and Kin, requesting their presence at the palace. Raydea quickly speaks in an elvish language to the nobles and they nod to her and hesitate slightly, turn and take their leave.
Kin: what the hell was all that about? The palace? I thought you said you had a council house… not a palace. Just what is going on here? And what did you say to them that you had to say it in another language?
Raydea: (also hesitant before answering) I… told them we didn’t have enough time to change our clothes, we’re going before royalty. And they request us right now. (lowering her eyes almost in shame)
Kin: If that’s it.. why didn’t you just say so? Common we need to go then don’t we?
(takes Raydea by the hand)
Kin suspects something is amiss, but decides to play along to find out what’s going on. Cutie decides to rejoin them, slowly, while carrying an apple to the best of her abilities that a fairy sized girl can do. They enter a long corridor to a tower of steps. At the top is a bulky tall man with a scornful look on his face, as is on the face of a slender elegant woman beside him.
King: Step before me Raydea…
Kin: Ray… are you sure you’ll be ok? (whispered to her as he kneels)
Raydea: Oh I’ll be fine, I know how to handle royalty…
Raydea walks up to the top of the steps, standing before the King. The King looks apon Raydea with condescending eyes and raises his right hand to the sky. Cutie lets out a slight gasp, dropping her apple and putting her hands to her mouth as she hovers over Kin. Kin is equally surprised as he is about to jolt to her rescue but stops as the Kings hand comes down, and behind Raydea and scooping her up and hugging her tightly while laughing loudly and merrily, needless to say Kin and Cutie are stunned and baffled, staring wide eyed and dumbfounded.
King: It is good to have you back after so many years! At long last you have returned… (Raydea is trying to stop him from speaking) my daughter! (Raydea looks over to Kin and Cutie with a sorry filled look)
Kin just stays there, while knelt, completely and utterly speechless, dumbfounded, wide eyed, and stunned beyond all comprehension. Cutie is so stunned she stops flapping her wings and plops onto Kin’s head.
It’s now just turning to evening with the sun setting, a grand feast is prepared and Kin sits across from Raydea, next to the King and Queen as guests of honor. Cutie sits on the table. Kin is anything but enthralled. Never breaking his concentrated stare at Raydea. Obviously making Raydea uncomfortable to great extents. The King notices and prepares a speech like toast.
King: To Kin, for braving the journey to bring our next queen safely home. Let it be known he is always welcomed to our kingdom. Oh and as well as his little friend the fairy named Cutie. She too is always welcomed. I hope this feast is to your satisfaction my new friend.
Kin: I have to admit I’ve never seen this much food in one place before that I was allowed to eat. And I also have to admit I never thought once that I’d be where I am now.
(a slight glare at Raydea) but allow me to offer a toast…
To friends, cause friends never keep secrets from each other. That’s how trust is formed.
Raydea: (slams her hands to the table and stands up very angrily) OK! I should have told you that I’m the next in line queen of this elf kingdom, I’m sorry I lied to you about what my parents did for a living! (turns to her father) And No! I’m still not going to fulfill your wishes! That’s why I left four years ago and I’m still not going to do it! (leaves the table and room in a huff)
King: Well… it’s nice to see she’s forgiven me about that little incident.
Kin: I don’t suppose saying sorry is going to cover this… I perhaps carried too far with the toast.
King: Pay it no mind. All she needs is some time to cool off. She’s always been a bit ill tempered even as a child. I don’t know where she gets it from.
Queen: I believe she gets it from you. As you did a bit of uproaring yourself when the “incident” happened, which in turn caused her to leave.
Kin: I know it’s none of my business but what is this “incident” you keep talking about?
King: (lets out a heavy sad sigh) four years ago Domorias, the orcish king of a nearby kingdom, demanded we supply a wife for him or he would decimate our lands.
His numbers are too great for us to fight off. So war is not an option. So our daughter is to marry him. She, as if you couldn’t see, is not so eager to fulfill her part of the deal.
And the king is getting rather impatient after waiting four years for her to return.
I would give anything for way out of this arranged marriage of my daughter.
I want her to be happy but I also have to think about the lives of my kingdom.
Kin turns toward the rest of the people who are dinning with them to see no one is eating and are all depressed and their heads hang down in sorrow. Sudden guilt fills Kin as he slowly stands. The King looks at him and nods, Kin walks out of the room and down the hallway to think.
Cutie: (once again annoyed having to catch up to Kin) So what are you going to do?
You can’t let her just marry some creep like that.
Kin: Why can’t I? Who’s to say they have to marry for love… we’re guests here.
We can’t go around telling anyone how to live by our standards. (annoyance and frustration can be detected in his words)
Cutie: I know you think I’m dense but I can see that you like Ray. Admit it.
Kin: WHAT?! I do not like her! Though I do think you’re dense. I’ll admit that part.
Remember we have a mission… defeat Mortuk. You know… the big bad guy with the sphere pieces which in case you forgotten, we don’t have ANY pieces what so ever.
So that means we only have to walk all over this planet to find eight really big tough generals and take their pieces and only in doing so allows us to fight Mortuk to the level that he could possibly be defeated.
Cutie: You know what I think?
Kin: (sighs) What…
Cutie: I think you’re in love with her. Why else would you try to find a way to justify why we shouldn’t get involved in trying to find a way to get her out of this problem?
You’re in love with her and it’s scaring you to death. What are you afraid of if this is true?
Kin: I’m not afraid of anything. I’m not justifying myself. For the lone reason that I’m not in love with Raydea.
Cutie: Yea I guess you’re right, I mean why would someone like you fall for a brown eyed, pouty lipped girl right?
Kin: For your information her eyes are green. (winces as he suddenly realizes he just trapped himself)
Cutie: And thanks for proving my point. You do like her.
Kin: So what.. we don’t know if she feels the same way and she’s suppose to marry that orc person. If I told her how I felt it would just be a pain that would linger on both of us.
Cutie: (almost speechless at his response) Kin… I’m sorry, I never thought of it like that.
Isn’t there anything we can do? Maybe we can reason with this other guy and…
Raydea: You can’t reason with an Orc. (leaning against the wall with a painful sorrowed fill frown on her face, tears swelling in her eyes) I think it would just be best for you two to go on with your mission. I can’t keep running away from my duties. (leaves the room without casting a glance at either Cutie or Kin)
The following morning Kin and Cutie pack up supplies and water for their hike back to Celtic City. Kin hasn’t said a word since seeing Raydea last night and Cutie wants to talk to him but doesn’t want to cause more pain than he admitted to last conversation. Raydea watches from her bedroom window as Kin and Cutie wave farewell to the King and others. Kin looks up and happens to see Raydea and quickly looks away, walking to the entrance gate with Cutie close behind him.
As Kin is walking out of the forest heading back to the city, he notices a large convoy heading his direction, as it gets closer he notices it is a convoy of orcs in large covered wagons drawn by what appears to be swamp mutated horses of the likes Kin has never seen.
Orc: GET OUT OF OUR WAY BOY! (snarling and spitting with each word)
King Domorias will not wait for his rightful property! And you will certainly not stand in his way!
Cutie: (grumbles under her breath) Kin could kill you without even opening his eyes you ugly piece of…
Kin and Cutie allow the convoy to pass and enter the elf city, as they continue their own path to the city of their destination. Along with the help from the Elf King and a map they made it back to Cletic City within 2 hours while just walking. Neither of them talked, which is about normal for Kin but very unusual for Cutie. They enter the city and to their surprise without any confrontation or anyone pointing weapons at them. For Kin it was a nice way to start the day for once.
Kin all could do while walking to the large silver tower was think about Raydea. When he saw the two guards outside the tower, he quickly sprinted towards them, jumping behind them and bashing their heads together. For something inside him prevented himself to kill. He didn’t understand it and tried to block it out. The more he tried to block it out the more he remembered the last time he talked to Raydea, the last thing she told him while standing on her bedroom balcony.
[flashback incase anyone is confused]
Kin: Ray… there’s something I need to tell you.
Raydea: Kin I heard you and Cutie talking… and you’re right about one thing, if you tell me what you’re going to say it will only be pain for both of us. I have to perform my duty as next in line of the kingdom. So please don’t continue what you’re going to say.
Kin: There has to be something I can do… maybe I can kill this Orc King and then you won’t have to ma-
Raydea: Not everything can be solved by killing…
[end of flashback]
Kin quickly gets inside the tower and makes his way up to the top floor, finally stifling the annoying voice he slashes and cuts his way through the guards with little effort. Kicking down a large door, a very large man with reflective dark armor, stands at shock that someone would be stupid enough to attack his tower as he looks at his attacker.
General Kodar: Who the hell are you!? Do you have any idea who I am!?
(unsheathes his sword and chuckles deeply) I guess you are the one that thinks he is going to defeat my master.
Cutie: Watch out Kin… he has a sphere piece on him…he’s dangerous!
Kin: Hmph. I doubt that. (in a blink of an eye he darts to the general, unsheathed his sword and stuck it through the generals chest, right through the armor and sticking out the other side)
Cutie: Kin watch ou- err what the! I blinked and it was over? Well that certainly was anti-climatic!
Kin twists his blade inside Kodar’s chest, then rips the blade up through his spin and out the General’s forehead, flinging out the sphere piece and shooting it to Cutie. Kin pushes the corpse back to his throne and walks to Cutie. Picking up the piece and placing it in a carrying pack he suddenly hears a massive explosion outside. Both Kin and Cutie run to a nearby window and see the forest is in flames and more explosions follow. A terrified look chokes Kin and Cutie.
Kin: RAYDEA!! NO!!! We have to go back Cutie! We have to go back now! The wedding was a trap!
Cutie: You think I’m blind and stupid!? Of course it was a trap I can see the flames too you know! And I’m glad some common sense came back to you about returning to the elf city! Common let’s hurry!
Kin and Cutie rush the same shortcut they traveled to the city only to find most of the forest was burnt down or destroyed. In the distance orcs could be heard laughing and terrorizing elf villagers. Cutie returns to her hiding spot, or for the fact that Kin grabbed her and stuffed her in the carry pack with the sphere piece for her own safety, as Kin quietly made his way to the elf city entrance gate. The magic barrier was obviously destroyed seeing how it was easily seen, orcs stood guard while the two elf guards lay dead at their feet.
Kin calmly walks out of the forest and up to the orc guards while hiding his anger and rage at what they have done to the village.
Kin: I wish to enter, step aside and let me pass.
Orc #1: Say what? (laughter) You hear what he said?
Orc #2: You wish to enter? What do we look like… a couple of genies? (more laughter)
In no mood for jokes Kin quickly takes his sword out and with two swipes returns the sword to it’s sheath, the orcs have no idea what just happened and before they can react, their eyes gush out blood and fall, now dead. Kin quietly enters the city and is overtaken by the destruction of what the orcs have delivered to a once beautiful city, now lay in ruin. He hears screams but one scream stood out more than the others. Raydea was being shoved into an armored cart along with several other women and locked inside, but Kin didn’t know which direction the scream came from other than from the palace. So Kin sprints over and heads to the throne room instead of the court yard. He finds that the King has been slain and the queen is missing. Hearing Raydea scream at the guards at the moment was quite humorous, but at the same time it gave him a slight lift of hope. He dashes outside through the door, literally, as the smoke and debris settles, the orcs stare in amazement that someone just went through a 15 foot tall door made of thick wood.
Kin: Back away from the cart and release the women… NOW!
Orc Captain: Umm, I’m sorry but that’s contradicting what you’re asking…
Kin: … Just do what I say!
Orc Captain: Ok… let me just flip the switch over…here! (pulls out a long metal tube, Kin has no idea it’s a RPG and thinks it’s a joke)
Kin: (sarcasm) Oh no… he’s got.. a metal tube. (laughter)
The Orc Captain pulls the trigger and a rocket shoots out of the metal tube and rockets straight at Kin, but then the rocket veers up really hard and strikes a tower. Debris falls on top of Kin burying him alive. The Orc Captain gives off a low laughing gruff and climbs onto the cart and the convoy takes off. Raydea is in disbelief that Kin would come back for her and that he is now dead. Sobbing and extremely depressed she doesn’t speak for the rest of the trip to the Orc Camp. A few orcs were ordered to stay behind.
A few hours passed when Kin finally woke up, buried in the debris he shoves the large pieces of stone and marble off of him, only to have half a dozen orcs stare in amazement that he even survived.
Cutie: Jeez Kin, even when they think you’re dead they’re amazed, but then again you could have tried to still have them think you were dead instead of bashing boulders around making noises that everyone can hear!
Kin: (growling slightly) Well I’m sorry, I don’t like enclosed spaces. So you can imagine how freaked I was to wake up buried alive.
Not having much time to search for his sword, he dashes to the orcs at the bottom of the stairs and hits them in the stomach, for he needs to know where they took Raydea and a live hostage can talk better than a dead corpse. Interestingly enough they find one of the orcs is allergic to fairies so once again Cutie is essential for the success rate to be high. After a few hours of constant sneezing the orc gives into the torture and gives them the information they desire. After gathering supplies from what they could find they start their long hike to the Orc camp. Along the way they come across many orc scouts and after interrogating them for information about the camp that they are searching for, they tie them up and leave them for the townspeople to deal with. In total they liberated seven to eight town and/or villages. Each time they free a town they are offered free supplies and food as well as directions to where the convoy was heading. Three days have gone by and Kin feels they are not getting any closer of finding Raydea, until they just happen to stumble onto the Orc camp purely by accident but Kin’s hope is renewed when he spots the convoy porting into the main entrance gate. Disgusted to notice that many of the women have disappeared from inside the armored crate, but happy to see that Raydea is amongst the survivors.
Kin: Ok, we need to get inside and get her out. Any ideas Cutie?
Cutie: I have a couple but there is just one that I think will work…
Kin and Cutie sneak down to the main gate to carry out their plan, will it work… will they save Raydea, and how will they save themselves from the Orc camp.
