This is just my entries into an RP I'm currently in. Just a way for me to keep track of where I am more easily as well as keep a record of sorts, but feel free to comment or make suggestions. Except that it needs more action; It will have more soon, but first I wanna set up the background story like I want it. If you want to join, or you would just like to see what other people are saying (since I'm only copying my own entries and as such some parts could be confusing), this is the link. http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13128603&page=1
|Enter Seifer| As the veil of darkness finally began to slowly lift from his eyes, Seifer tried to stand up and figure out where he was, but his legs were still a little wobbly. Whatever had attacked him (or whatever it had done) had done so with such incredible speed that before he was even aware of another presence already he was on his knees, the world darkening around. After lying there for a moment waiting for his strength to return, wondering would could possibly be waiting for him in the up-coming days, he finally was able to stand and walk. Taking in his surrroundings, he was taken a-back by what he saw; he was standing in the middle of some kind of enormous, bio-technological construct. The room was dark, but glowed with a dim, greenish-blue lumionescence that seemed to emenate from the walls, themselves. Steping closer, he discovered that the walls were some kind of naturally-formed steel-laced plant matter. In some areas of the wall, monitors and holo-panels could be observed. Some where still active, but most were shut down or locked down. The floor was a hard, golden-brown metal, etched with some very intricate designs that all seemed to lead to the center of the room. In the center of the room was a circle of small steps leading to a large opening at their top. Coming through this hole and up past the matching opening in the roof was a large, purplish-blue crystal with a few scattered vines wrapping around it. Looking around, Seifer could see that a few miniature such columns could be seen dotting the room. It took very little real thought to realize that, wherever he was, this was the control room. After toying around a little bit with the computers in this area and getting nothing, he came to what was obviously the central computer. Activating it, he was met with a strange and alien language. However, even stranger was that, altough he could not make out a single bit of the characters on the screen, he somehow instinctively "knew" how to operate some part of it. Pressing a few buttons on impulse, the screen shuddered for a moment, flickered off, and re-appeared in his own language. A program booted up shortly after to explain just what this place was and what it was for. The things Seifer learned were shocking, but much more-so they gave him a new hope. Whatever was going on, he was sure this contruct was the key to his survival and possibly future dominance.
|Enter Hojo| Hojo was still dazed when he began to, but he shook it off shortly. When he looked about, he saw that he was in some kind of underground cavern. But something was strange; the colours were off. The water glowed with an eerie-though-slight greenish tint, and the rock seemed to give off jsut a hint of a purplish glow. Steeping closer to the water, he cautiously stuck in a finger. The water was actually warm to the touch, which was unusual for water anyway, but even more-so for water underground. Scooping up a bit of earth, he found it was even hotter, and there was something small and sharp in it. Taking it out of the water, started shaking his hand lightly to rid it of the dirt, he soon held in his hand something strange; laced throughout the dirt were these small, oragnish-green crystals. They gave off and good deal of heat, and seems almsot attracted to each other, sticking together like magnets, only stronger. Washing them and another two handfuls in the stream, he deposited them in his coat pocket and turned around to examine the rock. Much as he expected, it too was laced with crystals, but these gave off a chill air and seemed to repel the crystals in his pocket. Stepping even closer, he was met with a loud *POP* of energy and send sliding across the ground. His coat was burnt where he had placed the crystals, and they had been pushed away with such force that they had ripped through the back and lay in a ball a few feet away. Stunned for a moment, he thought of something. He through a bit of rock at the wall, and nothing happened. He through soome dirt and water at the rock, and still nothing happened. Then he through a small crystal from the river at the rock, and the crystals in the rock reacted by zapping it with a deep yellow energy that fractured the small crystal and sent it flying backwards, nearly stabbing Hojo in the process. Amazed, Hojo went abot trying to pry some of the crystal from the rock, but found he could do nothing to so much as chip it. He expiramented as he could, but only proved the obvious; that larger amount of crystal generated more of a response when the two met. Gathering the tiny sample that had been naturally wedged out onto the ground by time's flow, he picked back up the handful from the river, being careful to keep them as far apart as he could, and began looking for an exit. Strangely, he felt a renewed sense of strength as he began his search for an exit, but he couldn't have known yet jsust where it had come from, or how important a role it would play in his future.
|Seifer| All through the night, Seifer had been exploring the ancient construct. The sheer size of it was amazing enough considering what the place was, but the perfect harmony of biological and technological working in unison was enough to take even him a-back. The level of this bio-tech suggested that whomever had created this place had clearly been rather peaceful...so why had they made something like this. It just didn't make sense. Were they afraid of some coming conflict? Or perhaps, they were in the midst of it, and never had the chance to use this place? Continuing down the long, dimly lit narrow hallway, Seifer quietly felt a sense of dread. Because one way or another, this place was a sign that something very powerful and VERY destructive had once been unleashed here, and nothing pointed to it having ever been removed.
|Hojo| "Damnit! How deep could I possibly be!?"
Hojo had been slowly but steadily progressing upwards for the last few hours, and his mind was starting to wander into frightening places.
"What if this place is actually above ground, and I'm heading further in? What if I'm too deep into the earth to ever reach the surface? What if there is no exit, and the top is simply a dead end?"
"NO!" He told himself. He could not allow himself to think such thought, as they would only further complicate matters. To ease and occupy his mind, he began expiramenting with the strange crystals he had found when he first arrived. Along the way, he had seen traces of long-abandoned technology, suprisingly well preserved if no longer functional. And the terminal he had found earlier had reacted to one of the crystals in his pocket, but he had mistakenly held out the wrong colour, and promptly the terminal had exploded in his face. Obviously, these crystals were important. Silently, he began to scheme to himself how he might further his own ends with this new discovery...
|Seifer| Something rather disturbing had happened on his trek through the long-abandoned corridors of the construct. He had been exploring the myriad chambers and devices in this place, when he came to a room locked down with a heavily encrypted security device. After a while, he had nearly given up when he noticed something odd; the colours of the buttons on the panel were the same as the pattern that was etched endlessly throught the construct's floors. After a few tries, resulting in more than a few electrical shocks, he finally found the correct starting button, and soon had the door open. Inside, there was another door. When he entered through and pressed the button the open the door, the door behind him closed, leaving him in complete darkness. A quite beeping noise started, which turned into a dull whine of what was obviously an air-lock of some sort. Shortly after, the room depressurized, the door opened. Suddenly, he felt an intense and dis-orienting electrical surge pass through his body, leaving him seemingly stumbling and light-headed. It was like a shadow had passed over him, and he was momentarily blinded by it. But not in the traditional sense; he could still see in the optical sense, but for some reason he couldn't "see". Just as suddenly as it had happened, it was over, and he found himself standing as though nothing had happened.
"The HELL was that!? Did...did I imagine it, or...did something just...drain me, somehow?..."
Taking a moment to explore the room, hoping whatever might have happened was over with, he found only three things were inside. There was an array of slender crystal, each measuring about 8 inches tall and standing on it's own pedastal. There was something odd, though. One of them had been cracked and long sliver had fallen off. It also did not glow like the rest. Somehow instinctively knowing these objects were better left alone, he went about examining the other two objects in the room; another computer terminal, which was also inactive (which he had discovered was because the power system of this place was running on reserves), and some kind of small, hand-held device on top of it. Taking the device slowly from atop the computer in case it was somehow tied to the crystals, he was relieved to see it was much like your every-day Organizer. Pocketing it for now, he swept the rest of the facility, making a few notes on areas of particular interest, and returned to "The Bridge" as he had taken to calling it. But all the time afterward, he could not help but feel that somehow his experience in the "Crystal Chamber" as the little holo-panel maps called it, was the start of something horrible. He only wished his friends could be here, and though he would never admit it to himself, he couldn't help but wish Squall and his friends were here with him, as well. Sadly, it would be a LONG time before he saw them again.
|Hojo| At last! Fresh air! After only just moments before considering the odds of dying in the near-darkness of that strange cave, Hojo found himself standing above ground. I took him a moment for his eyes to adjust to the suddenly bright light of a noon-day sun, and what at first appeared to be a large rock plateau began to take on detail, eventually becoming a large, lightish blue and White building of some kind. But there was something strange about it. Like it was out of place, just sitting on the ground like that. After a while, having had himself a nice, quiet rest while he played with the cyrstals some more, he set off towards the towering figure in front of him.
Nearing the closest structure, a enormous but thin tower, his suspicion was confirmed; there was a large device attached to the bottom that was without a doubt a propulsion device of some sort. It seemed that, while the base was indeed rooted to the earth, the majority of this "building" was actually some sort of flying craft. From the sheer size of it as well as the round shape, Hojo guessed it might be some sort of floating base, but the many joints and pivots visible througout the craft gave the impression it was capable of changing it's shape, though what purpose that served was beyond him. As he was searching for an entrance, he was suddenly hit with a feeling a weightlessness and disorientation. His vision was somehow impaired, though not in a traditional sense. He felt like he was being drained of his strength when suddenly it was over and he felt nothing. Unable to explain this strange occurance, he simply headed inside at a much faster pace. Though he was fine now, he couldn't help but feel that somehow he was spiritually weakened.
|Enter Rufus| Rufus had a strange sense that he'd been here before. He knew the world's geography better than most, and was certain that this wasn't the world he had been born into. However, if he truely had never left his own world, how was it that this place seemed so familliar? Or was it not familliarity, but rather a sense of purpose, like he was supposed to come to this place all along. Looking out over the sea, he heard a commotion. Peering over the edge of the rock-face, he saw it was cloud and his little "friends", though he didn't recognize a good deal of them from any previous encounters.
"Yeah, uh...I think I'll just head over there, in the exact opposite direction."
Taking a moment to look ahead of his path from his vantage point on the hill, he was able to make out what looked like a strange rock formation. However, something called him to it even as something else warned him that he wouldn't like what he found there. But still another voice told him that he'd never know what was out there unless he saw it for himself, and ever since he was a child he had had a curiosity that simply would not be denied. So, sighing slightly, he began the long trek towards that place off in the distance. But before he got started, he thought it might be nice to leave a little gift for the others, down below. Pulling a small, sphericle device from inside his coat, he tossed it down below. He could hear the clang of metal on metal and the hiss of the devices fluids pressurizing. What he had dropped was an device that through out a slough of 10 mechanicle spiders, about a 1/3 the size of the average man when on all 8 legs. With a sly little smirk, he bid them a wave goodbye and set off on his way. He knew they would prove to be little match against the fighters, but they'd certainly prove to be a hinderance to whatever they might be planning. Just ahead, a woodland lay between himself and that strange mountain range in the distance, and he was eager to be through it.
|Seifer| After playing around with the device for a while, Seifer finally found the correct button combination to alter the characters on the screen into his own language as he had previously done with the main facility controls. The device was basically and entire library in one little hand-held device. He found one aspect of particular interest; next to a section title labeld "crystal demons" was a large red sphere with a strange symbol in the center. Tapping the title, it opened a file on the contents of the chamber. Apparently, he was very lucky he hadn't touched the other crystals, but what he read next mortified him. Things were about to get worse, alright; MUCH worse...
|Rufus| He had been walking through the woods for a while now, and was starting to get the strange sensation of being watched, but whenver he looked behind him, no matter how fast or casualy he turned he never found anything. He knew there was SOMETHING there, though, and he intended to find out what. He decided to take a little "rest". Finding an uncomfortable spot where he could be sure he wouldn't fall asleep, he lay down against a rough, jagged rock and closed his eyes. A few moments later, something stirred in the distance. Lifting one eyelid very slightly, he could just make out something in the thicket making it's way towards him slowly. Just as the thing was coming close, he jumped up and grabbed it. Though it was struggling and thrashing wildly, he had little difficulty identifying it; it was a baby chocobo. Giving it a few bits of food from his pocket, he was able to calm the thing down. Continuing on with it under his arm, happily eating the bit of bread in his hand, he set back out for the other side of the forest.
|Rufus| Finally coming out of the woods, Rufus saw that he still had some ways to go. Ahead was a mountain pass between two large peaks. It was somwhat dark, but seemed like there was something glowing further in. The little Chocobo was nestled in his arms, and moved a little. Looking down, he was surprised to see that it was a real life Gold Chocobo. In the darkness of the forest, he couldn't see the shiny gold shimmer of his feathers. Smirking again to himself, he loaded some shells into his gun and proceeded through the pass.
|Hojo| He had been walking through what seemed to be an endless maze or corridors when he finally came to what appeared to be a laboratory. Inside, he was exstatic to see his earlier hypothesis confirmed; The lab held numerous crystals (amongst other things), including samples of the two he had found when he first awoke in this strange land. However, although the collection was much larger than his own, they were housed only mere milimeters apart. Apparently, the storage devices made us of some sort of technology that negated the effects of the fields put off by the crystals. Taking a moment to explore, he found a small handheld device lying abandoned on one of the tables, as if though the owner had tossed it away in a great fright. Something was amiss; nothing was overturned, there were no signs of any damage to the equipment or walls, but the device had obviously been discarded out of fright, as small peices of the outer case has chipped off and were lying scattered in a large area around it. However, it seemed as though it still worked fine; it was just a little roughed up. Something seemed to guide his hands as he stared at the strange characters on the screen, and before he knew it he had translated the device into his tongue. It seemed to be a detailed account of the studies being performed on the crystals in this lab, as well as in a few others that must have been located elsewhere. Pocketing the device, he let out a groan of disappointment that he couldn't stay here, or at least take them with him, then resumed his search for the control room.
|Rufus| Wondering how his little mechanical spiders were doing, he took out his tracking device. From what he could see (through the spiders' eyes), the mechanical arachnids were just feet away from Cloud and the others, hiding in the bushes and waiting for a chance to pounce. Giving the same evil smirk as always, he finished off the remainder of the large slug-like monsters in his path, reloaded, and continued on.
|Seifer| "Sooo...THIS is the main power generator..."
After studying the main holo-map, Seifer had finally located the main power bay. Doing as the tutorial system had suggested, he brought one green and one purple crystal-seperrated as the program had repeatedly warned!- to the main generator, placing each on the designated intake. Seconds later, there was the sound of static popping inside the machine as the facility began to come to life. The generators started to die down.
"Ah, shi-" *FWOOSH!!!* "WHOA!"
A very powerful burst of static knocked him back slightly, as the generator kicked into full drive. Shortly after the secondary systems started booting up. Soon, the entire construct would be back to full functionality. Then he could set about recovering the thing before it grew too powerful for him.
|Rufus| Hearing something behind him yet again, Rufus quickly turns around, gun raised.
"Who's out there? Show yourself!"
|Rufus| *thinks to himself for a moment* Oh, I remember you; your that little ninja thief, Yuttie, right? Anybody who would steal from Cloud is a friend of mine, I suppose. So, I suppose you're just like the rest us; found yourself out here with no warning and no clue what happened?
|Hojo| "Interesting. So, the crystals are basically the basis for all the advanced technology they developed just before disappearing. But, I wonder; why is it seemingly ALL geared towards the same basic ends? Were they looking for some particular result?..."
Hojo had spent the past few hours reading everything he found related to the expiraments carried out by the labs in the station. Apparently, some great calamity had befallen the place as he had suspected, but only small scraps of information could be found pertaining to it, and most were left unfinished. It was almost as if the end had come so suddenly that they had hardly even had the time to realize what was going on around them when whatever had happened...happened. Getting up for yet another grueling walk, Hojo was thankful to at least have a map of the place now. He double-checked the map, and set off for his next destination; something called the "LSDL" according to the map. He wasn't quite sure what was there, but then that was exactly why he had chosen there for his next stop.
|Rufus| Vincint? So, Shinra's little lab-rat is here, too, is he? OH, VIN--CINT, where AR--E YO--U?...Come on out; Yuffie's already blown your cover. *turning back to Yuffie* and you say you came here on your own? How? The only space program I'm aware of is Shinra Inc.'s old throw-away project in that little village. What was it called again... Well regardless, I'd say you have some explaining to do. Like just how you got to this planet on your own. *raises his double-barrel slightly* Oh, and you might as well come out as well, Expirament XIII...
|Rufus| "Yes, because after all; nothing's quite so easy to track as blood. *Rufus charges up his 4x attack materia and begins unloading on the bushes along the road* You might get away, but you'll still have those wounds to tend to. I'd advise coming with us if you don't want to be stranded alone and wounded in the jungle with the scent of fresh blood on you."
Giving the evil little smirk he's famous for, Rufus begins to walk once more along the path through the mountain pass.
"Yuffie, your welcome to come or stay. I doubt Vincint would come with us, so if you don't wish to leave him in this state, you can stay with him."
*set back out along the path*
|Seifer| With the power returned to the facility and the system starting to reboot, Seifer felt a renewed sense of hope. Perhaps, if what was written in the device was true, there was still a chance to stop the "thing" before it got out of hand. He could only pray that is was still around here, somewhere...
|Hojo| "That's strange; what could have caused the power to return like that? It couldn't be a reaction to my presence. I've been here way too long for that. Could there be someone else in the facility. Perhaps someone like myself; a stranger to this land brought here by some strange freak phenomena?"
|Rufus| He had been walking through this pass for what seemed like an eternity, but when he checked his watch it showed that only a single hour had passed. Perhaps it was the quiet getting to his mind. After all, Yuffie had been following him for a while, but had kind of dropped off. He couldn't help but wonder if she was still following him, only from a distance, or if she had returned to stay with Vincint and Expirament XIII. Or, if something else... No. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, Yuffie, like the rest, was a capable enough fighter. Glad of the company of the little gold nestled inside his coat, he continued on.
Finally! After all this time, he was through the pass. Ahead of him lay an open field. And what was that spot up there? Some kind of settlement? Perhaps he could find out more about this land on his way to the strange peak in the distance if he altered his course just a little to make a stop in the village.
|Rufus| The viewing screen blipped inside his pocket. Taking it out, he saw that his spiders were alerting him to something odd happening. Activating the closest spider's cam, he was a little shocked; there was a ghost rising from Cloud's friend's chest. What was her name, again? Tiffany? Well, no matter. This was the perfect time to act. Pressing a few buttons, he set his spiders from spying mode assasination mode. They would creep around the group until they were surrounded, then attack.
|Rufus| "So, decided to come out into the open, have you? I was wondering how long you'd tail me like that. I'm a little surprised that you'd leave Vincint all by himself like that, though."
|Rufus| Insulted your master, did he? How so?
|Rufus| True. But then I might be a little..."cranky" too if I'd been locked up in a coffin for the past decade or so. So, why are you here, anyway? I thought you'd simply come here to track down Expirament XIII.
|Rufus| "Well, then here, take this."
Rufus handed Yuffie the little gold from inside his coat.
"I don't really have time to take care of this thing right now. Hold onto it for me for a while."
|Hojo| Damn! the lab room was protected by a triple encryption. Of course, he wouldn't have too much trouble with it, but still it would take some time. He still didn't know what this "LSDL" was, but whatever it was must be important...
|Seifer| While playing around with the main control panel a bit, Seifer happened to press the button that brought up the facility's security network. He didn't think much until he happened to notice that it was detecting movement near one of the labs.
"Damn! I'm not ready yet. The new crystal isn't even CLOSE to complete! Wait a minute; the only thing that can interact with it are the crystals, themselves and vaccume-sealing devices. There must be somebody else here...I wonder; can I bring up a...no, no wait; I probably shouldn't be screwing around with this thing so much just yet."
Picking up his gunblade, Seifer gave out a sigh as he prepared for yet another long walk through the construct; it seemed like all he had done since he awoke was to walk from one end to the other, only to find he needed something at the other end.
|Rufus| "s**t. I might have known this would happen."
Rufus had finally come to the far-off village he had seen when he first left the Mountain pass, and just like seemed to be the case for the rest of this god-forsaken planet, this place was un-inhabited. However, this was not just a mere village; more like a millitary complex from the looks of it. Or possibly some sort of spec. ops lab. However, he noted that strangely there were no signs of anything that should have caused the complex to be abandoned; no scortching of past fires, no scaring a holes from any form of weaponry. Not even any signs OF the actual act of leaving. It was like the people inside had simply disappeared. Or was it rather that they were simply deeper inside, choosing for whatever to avoid the surface? He found that highly unlikely, as throughout the grounds in broad daylight were plenty of what appeared to be mercantile boothes and various other facilities that he couldn't quite guess the uses of. Even he began to feel a shudder wracking his body; this was not right, and he was beginning to feel that cold grip on his shoulder that you only get when standing on the precipice of a very ghastly and deathly-frightening event.
|Rufus| The spiders were in place, and with an evil little smirk on his face Rufus pressed the button sequence that ordered them to attack. From all around Cloud and his friends, the mechanical monsters started creeping up on the unsuspecting group of warriors.
|Mechanicle Spiders| Jumping suddenly out of the bushes, the first of the spiders landed squarley on Clouds back, but was knocked off as he fell. The rest then began to charge out of their hiding places.
|Seifer| Waking up in a heap on the floor, Seifer slowyly climbed to his knees. He had been running through the hallways when suddenly he felt that shadow come over him again. The last thing he remembered was that feeling of being drained. Trying to gain his footing against the wall, he cursed himself for not having been more careful. All he had done was make the thing even more powerful and himself weaker yet. Looking down the hall, he thought he saw something. Running up to it, he saw that it was a strange man in a lab-coat. He had a kinda "sickly-pale-ozzy osbourne" look about him, and Seifer had no doubt that the Ixu'pi had struck him as well. Grabbing his arms and lifting him onto his back, he brought him back to the "bridge".
|hojo & Seifer| Hojo awoke to find himself lying in a chair in what was inveriably the command station for the ship. Sitting in front of him, patiently waiting for him to regain conciousness was a young man with a large, ugly scar on his face and spiked hair. "(hmph. Now who does THAT remind me of...)" he thought sarcastically.
"Well, Dr. Hojo, you sure are a sound sleeper. I must have dropped you at least a dozen times on the way back. *slowly twirling his gunblade with the tip on the floor* Mind telling me just who you are and how you got here? I'd imagine you aren't one of the people who made this place."
"Figure that out yourself, did you? *just as quick as that remark the blade was at his throat* *slightly strained* Now, now, my boy; let's not be brash with strangers. I'm sure we can come to some sort of, um... "agreement" here...one of mutual benefit? Hm?
"How about this for mutual benefit; I get to find our who you are and why you're here, and you get to not die just quite yet?"
"Very well, then." *Hojo proceded to explain everything that had happened in FFVII* ...and just as the tower collapsed, I felt something like a...I don't know how to describe it...I don't even really remember much. All I remember is waking up in a cave very deep into the earth. The entrance is just outside. When I came out, I saw this ship-
-And were attacked by the Ixu'Pi while you were snooping around, correct? Well, that you survived that attests that you must have at least a little more to you than it would look. *Seifer leaned back in his seat, lowering the blade back to the floor but not setting it down* So, do you already know just what we've got here, or would you like me to enlighten you?
"I know precisely what we have here; an enormous star-base. The perfect place to carry out my expirements, too. If only we could get it up and into the sky...
It's not a base, you fool; it's a prison, and a very special one at that. This vessel was designed to keep safe the most malignant of evils. The people of this world feared it so much they ceased their own feuds and wars to pool their efforts and resources together and destroy it. Even some of the more evil figures of their society. However, there was a slight problem near the end...
|Rufus| It has been nearly 2 days, and he had yet to find a way inside the place. He could get past the gates easy enough, but there didn't seem to be any doors leading into the main building, itself. Perhaps the entrance wasn't directly trhough the building, but rather through some off-to-the-side access hatch of some kind.
|Hojo & Seifer| "What do you mean by 'there was a problem'? And what could have possibly been as bad as all that?"
"...The Ixu'Pi."
"The what?"
"The Ixu'Pi. It's a force; a spiritual force. I found a complete history on them on this little data pad. Apparently, at some point in their fighting one of the nations of this world decided to make a dark pact with the "demons of the void" that there ancient legends spoke of, whatever that means. Well, the master of these "demons" sent his own offspring to the planet, as he said he would. What he didn't tell them is that his kind had once warred with the people of this world for it's control, and had never forgotten their vendetta against them. The spell of banishment worked so long ago by their ancestors had no effect on the Ixu'Pi, as they had been willingly invited back by the people the spell served, and once more the "demons" were free to come upon the world. These offspring of the demon master were gifted a special power; Though they have no physical substance and thusly could not interact with the physical world as the others of their kind could, they were highly attuned to the spiritual to the point that they can shape wayward spirit energy and syphone the energies from living creatures. When they were unleashed upon the people of this planet, they ravaged entire nations in mere weeks, and in the end the people of this planet were wiped out. It was discovered that the creatures were susceptable to strange effects from the crystals that could be found in the deep caverns beneath the planet's surface. They were eventually contained through the use of special crystals created from two polar opposite varieties of crystal. The very crystals you've been playing with in your pockets the whole time I've been talking."
Taking out the crystals, Hojo could already feel a charge passing between them, trying to push the other away.
"Using some highly advanced process, which I have yet to uncover in any of their records, they found a way to merge the crystals. They had found out during the process of their research that the energies these crystals emit are not electrical as they seem, but spiritual. They focus spirit energies to the point they gain a semi-physical property. When merged, these oppositely-aligned energies create a vortex that draws in spiritual beings in the vicinity. After having captured all the Ixu'Pi, the people assumed the worst was behind them. Unfortunately, while the beings were contained, they were far from gone. Shortly before this prison ship was ready to depart, there was a massive earthquake. While the ship survived in one piece, it's contents were a different story; all the electronics and equipment inside had been thrown around, monitors were cracked, wires severed. The only saving grace was that the bio-technic properties of the majority of their equipment meant that most of it would repair itself over time. But the true problem was that most of the crystals had been toppled from their stands, and three of them had cracked or fractured, and the sudden break in the circuit of energy in the crystals allowed the creatures within to escape. The first was recaptured with relative ease, but the other two eluded them for some time, attacking from the shadows when they could, hiding the rest of the time. The second Ixu'Pi was recaptured by accident during an expirament to increase the range of the crystals and improve their durability. The final one bided it's time and killed many of the surviving scientists and soldiers when their guard was down. It was eventually contained, but the crystal they used to recapture it was it's original prison. Running out of time and resources, the scientists devised a way to temporarily align the energies in the shattered crystal by re-attaching the piece that had fractured off. They had found also come across another weakness in the beings; the Ixu'Pi were rendered inert in vacuums such as the vacuum of space, and by re-creating such an environment in the crystal chamber, the creature would still be contained even after the patch-work repair job done on it's crystal unraveled, as would it's brethren should they ever somehow escape, themselves."
"Well, that's all well and good, I suppose...but then why was I attacked by one earlier if they were supposed to be contained? Why didn't they send this thing into the sun like they had planned? Surely they didn't think they were safe and no longer had to worry about them posing a threat?"
"There was a final complication caused by the Ixu'Pi; Spirit Necrosis. It's a condition caused by repeated attack from the creatures. If enoguh spiritual energy is drained before the body is allowed to regenerate it, the spiritual essence of the body begins to decay and rot, turning the person into the basic equivalent of a berserk zombie. They're outwardly unchanged until the condition has taken full effect, but there mind is utterly shattered, like a rabies victim."
"So...they were-"
"-All killed? Yes. But very few people were affected by the condition itself. It was those who were that were the problem; they went on a rampage and killed what remained of the people in this place."
Hojo just sat in silence for a long while after this. As ghastly as this thing was, even to someone like him, even more frightening was the thought that he'd been hit twice by the creature. What if he had it? This 'Spirit Necrosis'? Perhaps there was a way to artifically regenerate and avoid the disease. Surely there had to be something...didn't there?"
"...bodies...there are no bodies in this place...how...how is that possible? Dead bodies don't inter themselves."
"Yes, that has had me worried, too; if everyone died as this datapad says, then where did the bodies go?"
"Wait; if everyone died, then how could the entry have even been made?"
"That I can explain; the scientist whom kept this was one of the last three to die. The final sentence was cut off before he could finish it, though it seemed more like the final garbled ramblings of a madman, anyway. The last coherent thing he said was that they were everywhere, the "Broken Ones", and would soon find them. He said his only consolation was that Broken Ones are short lived, as the loss of their spirit very quickly kills there body. Many Broken Ones they had captured for examination usually didn't last more than about 3 or 4 days."
"I just have one question for right now."
"Shoot."
"Are there any signs at all pointing out a Broken One in the making?"
|Rufus|
*Slam!*
Rufus had finally found a way in...a home-made one, but a way in none the less. Placing the small laser cutter in his coat pocket, he picked back up his shotgun and took a look inside. Though the place was dimly lit, it was just bright enough for him to make out a detailed series of patterns and carvings etched into the floor and walls. It didn't look like anything else was around. In fact it didn't look like anything had been around in quite some time. Suddenly he heard a noise behind him. He was about to place a few shells into the creature when he heard the familliar *cheeping* noise of a chocobo. As it jumped up at him, he saw it was the small Gold he'd found back in the woods. Apparently, it must have broken away from Yuffie and followed him all the way here.
"Well, I suppose I'll find a use for you"
Taking the creature up into the inside of his coat, he started to walk into the complex when he noticed the far-off whirring noise he'd been hearing for a while now starting to get a little louder...and closer.
"Finally, a little excitment around here!"
|Rufus|
*BOOOOOOOOM*
"Jesus nipples, this thing is fast!"
Rufus had been excited at the prospect of beating the crap outta some rusty mecha, but the idea of reversing those roles wasn't quite so enticing. He had assumed that whatever the device was would be all but broken from sheer age if nothing else. Rather, it seemed almost new, and moved as fluidly as a dancer. And that it was armed with explosives and beam weaponry didn't help much. The machine had 6 legs, three on each side, with a large ovular body in the center. It was about 9 ft. tall, must have weighed about 3 tons, and was a bright, shiny silver with deep, ebony-black trim running along the edges of it's armour plating and joints. Although he was sure he could find some way to take the thing down, Rufus wasn't quite sure just yet what that way was. He had tried blasting through it's leg joints. That had resulted in a reflective screen being thrown up after only getting in three shots and blasting the rest back at him. He had barely managed to dodge his own returned fire when the creature had tried to step on him. He rolled to the side and stopped flat on his back just in time to see the explosive spheres about to rain down on him. Firing off a few shells at the one in the center, he had hoped that would set them all off. Instead, his shots bounced off harmlessly. It was about this time he had decided the other side of that large rock formation just behind him looked reeeeeeeeeally nice all of a sudden. He ran in a wide arc around to the side of the machine, then under it's legs. While the thing turned around to find him, he ducked back under and ran behind the rocks. Hopefully, the thing hadn't seen this and would head off the other way looking for him. Instead, a second one had blown the tops off the rocks above him and nearly crushed him. This time is was a pure fire-truck red and instead of beams it had bullets. Lot's of them. All coming out at once. He was about to resign himself to his fate when an idea struck him (or possibly a rock, but he couldn't be sure); He'd use the two against each other. Taking a chance, he dove back out from behind the rocks and jumped on top of the first machine. It bucked up and tried to shake him off, just in time to take every last bullet from the red machine. The thing stumbled, and started to lose it's footing as a strange blue liquid began leaking from it and it obviously started losing power. Having to act quickly before the machine was completely down, he leveled a shot at one of it's legs to get it's attention and run under the red machine, zig-zagging to dodge the in-coming firepower. Diving under the machine, he sat there for just a moment, then ran away. He turned his head just in time to see the dying machine let off what was left of it's salvo of bombs, obliterating the red machine. He sat there for a moment, ready to move if the other machine was still alive, but when the smoke cleared it was obvious the thing was dead. Good thing too, considering that the beam rifles were in the middle of charging up for a last shot at him-
"s**t!"
He took cover behind the rocks just in time to escape the insuing explosion as the weapons reached critical mass and exploded. When the light finally faded and he could see and hear again, he took a peek around the rocks. About the only thing left of the two machines was their memory. A few pieces of red plating and a large silver leg were all he could see. Shortly after, he realized why; a large piece of silver metal that had once been a mortar landed only a scant two feet from where he was standing, followed by tons of scrap metal raining down all around him. They hadn't been evaporated; just blown sky high. And now they were coming back down.
"For the love of- IS SOMEBODY UP THERE TRYING TO KILL ME!?!"
Cursing every last diety of every last race and culture he could think of, he ran inside the building, scrap only just missing his heels the whole way.
|Hojo| Laying out on the bed of the room he'd claimed as his own, Hojo mulled over everything he'd been told in silence. Seifer had said that the main sign of a Broken One that hadn't transformed yet was a mottled discolouration on the skin in the middle of the back, and looking in the mirror he was relieved to see that he had nothihng of the sort...well...that he didn't already have, anyway. Now he was debating with himself whether he should run away from this damnable place, try to help this Seifer kid deal with the creature, or perhaps try to make use of the thing for his own ends. He dismissed the thought from his mind for the time being, since he hardly had a clue where to even begin to control the creature. Perhaps he could help Seifer capture it, and then begin expiramenting with methods to control it. Indeed, maybe the crystal themselves were the answer, though; after all, the things had held the entities for well over 2 centuries. Perhaps they could be used to influence the creature, if only through fear rather than direct control. The question was how were they to make a new crystal?
