Every human being possesses the great potential to be wise, just and good. On the opposing balance of the scales, every human being also possesses the potential to be evil, cruel and vile. So what predetermined factors cause some people to choose the path on which they trod? Some may argue that environment plays a large part in it. Because a child was treated cruelly when growing up, so they grew up to be a cruel person. Some may argue that genetics play a large part, because the boy's father was a mean spirited individual, so the boy grew up to be a mean spirited man. And yet some may argue a personal inclination to either, such as even though a child was raised in a good and loving home, and had many friends growing up, they still chose to walk in the path of shadows.
But what do I believe personally? Sometimes I am not sure. Yet, at other times, I am crystal clear on the subject. Men are often stupid, generally good-hearted, occasionally sublime. Sometimes they are the best they can be, sometimes they are the worst. And yet it is these very flaws that make them human, these very flaws that make them the beautiful, wondrous creatures that they are.
And so I conclude. If not for the Darkness in each of our hearts, we would not be able to see that wondrous flicker of Light. And, of course, vice versa, if we did not stand within the Light, we would not be able to see the darkness around us. And it is only when we choose to ignore the darkness, that we are truly lost to it.
