Anatomy for Beginners Pt 2 |

Right now I am preparing myself to watch a dissection. The program is called Anatomy for Beginners (hence the cunning title of this entry) and it will be on telly in about 15 minutes.
In April this year I went to see an exhibition of the human body. Lots of bodies had been specially preserved, plasticised (sp?) so that all the bits could be seen. Skin was peeled off muscle, bones exposed, guts open to the world to see. It was amazing. Somewhat disturbing to think that all these bodies were actual people once. It wasn't that I minded all exposed fleshy bits, I think the most disturbing thing was the way the bodies looked crystalized. Kinda like salted meat.
The thing that I liked most about the exhibition was the hands. Hands hold such beauty for me, quite often I find that a person's hands are what attracts me to them. So in death, it is nice to know that their beauty remains solid.
Something else that was fascinating in the exhibition was the cast of the veins of an arm and a liver. Through a process of casting, all that was left of the arm were the intricate clusters of veins and capiliaries floating arm shaped in a large glass of preserving fluid. A similar process had been applied to a liver, which strangely enough looked like a pair of Nitemare Boots.
So tonight the dissection that I am going to be watching is an episode of Anatomy for Beginners which looks at the techinques, inspirations and reasons why one man would want to preserve and exhibit chopped up, sliced, exposed and innards of dead people.

No really, let me tell you why. Uwe Boll. I have just hired his 'latest' movie, and by movie I don't mean to infer anything else other than it will be a series of moving images copied on to a digital format. Why do I do this? The man makes of mockery of all that he touches, mostly the German tax laws. Who will stop his onslaught of evil? Apparently not me, as I am hiring his 'work'. Perhaps there is some subliminal addiction edited into it?

As you stand looking down the corridor, you notice a small gong. Reaching to pick up the soft mallet you lightly tap the copper surface. The sound resonates through the corridor and a wisp of silver smoke appears at the far end of the corridor. As it approaches you it takes on the form of a woman. She is clothed in autumn colored silks, her firey red hair flows down over her shoulders. "Salam Alay," she greets you bowing low " I am Sahirnee Ghul, Mistress of the East Wing."
The East Wing of the Castle was a world of it's own. Persian rugs covered the floors and walls, the rich silks that covered the windows fluttered in the always warm breeze. What could be seen of the walls, was covered in rich mosiacs of blues, reds, gold and white.
At far end of the corrider lay a garden. Full of fruit and flowers that bloomed all year.
Blood Oranges (of course), figs, pomegranate, grapes among the fruits. Richly scented wisteria, freesia, violets and Jasmine among the flowers that gave the garden it's soft perfume. Hidden among lillies and roses, lay an extensive herb garden. Peacocks and nightingales called and forraged in amongst tree branches. A fountain gargled quietly in the centre of the garden. The tangy smell of the blood that flowed in the fountain, inviting and welcome to many of the castle's residents.
Among the rooms along the corridors, where several private bedrooms. A well stocked library full of mystical and occult tomes. Plenty of luxurious cushions were scattered on the floor. In locked teak cabinets ancient weapons, alchemical and other magikal items lay on display.

4. If you do eat in your room, please do not leave a mess. The cleaners are constantly complaining that blood and ichor are very difficult to remove from the carpets, walls and ceilings.

Funny things that light does |

My husband and I were out late one night walking our dog and we noticed something really cool. It is Autumn in Australia at the moment and most of the leaves are off the trees. While we were admiring the branches of a tree, which was backlit by street light, a curious illusion was noticed.
The branches of the tree seemed to be curving into the light. The only other effect that I can think of is the parabola graph thing. Where you draw lines from the X axis to the corresponding Y axis and you end up getting the curved straight line. If you have done this, you will know what I mean.
Go out and try the tree thing. It works in moonlight as well.
