Welcome to my side of the street.
Tena and Curtis
So I work for this insurance company taking in loss reports for cars, homes, boats, ect. My very last call of the day, right before my weekend starts, this lady calls in wanting to file a claim. Right off the bat, nothing seemed wrong. Then all of a sudden after I get her name, she bursts out with "my husband is dead." Let me tell you a story, my heart sank deep into the floor. Now, I have taken fatality calls before, but a call has never made me feel so much pain and saddness for another human being as this one. Her husband died in a single car accident with the vehicle swerved off the road, struck a tree, and caught fire. He did not make it out of the vehicle alive. She did not know whether he was dead right away, or had to suffer in the fire (details she willingly provided, as I was fully prepared to take the minimum details needed to get her claim started.) This woman lost her best friend. I can't even begin to imagine what I would do with out my own. Yet her she was, less than 24 hours since the incident, giving me the all the details. This woman, through Easter weekend, has lost her husband, her rock, her best friend. All I could think about before this call was the weekend and how close I was to seeing my own significant other. I guess the reminder to me is to never take life of granted; nobody is immune to death...
