History:
Once upon a time in Russia there lived a small family that made their home on the edge of the forest. The family of four, two parents and two children of fair skin and light hair, lived in peace, though the parents always told their two children to never go into the forest, since they believed in the old tales of bad things happening in dark woods. Their oldest, scoffing at the word's of his parents, went into the wood one day to prove their fear was unfounded.
He did not return.
The youngest, named DC after a great-grandmother she didn't know, wondered why her brother wasn't coming back and asked her parents why they wouldn't go in and find her. To her disbelief, her parents told her that her brother was lost and he would never return. Shocked at the way her parents were handling this, in the dead of night she snuck into the wood, to try and find her older sibling.
DC soon became lost, but then, when her fear started to get the best of her, she noticed a light near the center of the wood. Traveling towards the light, thinking it was a house, she was shocked to find a large, pure white horse tethered to a stake near a small pool of water. When she attempted to free the panicking horse, it was revealed that this was the lake of a rusalka. The female ghost, jealous of her fair beauty, darkened her pale skin and turned her long, blonde hair into the short, grey, coarse hair of an older woman, adding the tail of a passing wolf as the finishing touch in destroying her beauty.
Crying in fear, and wondering if she too would be turned into a rusalka, DC explained why she had wandered into the realm of the ghost. The rusalka revealed that the white horse is, in fact, her brother, Oliver, but he no longer remembered being a human and he will never die, since she intended the horse to remain her companion until the end of her days. Feeling wrong for transforming DC such, but not knowing how to undo her own curse, the ghostly woman instead grants the young female her brother, though he would never turn back into a human again, and the power of song, allowing her to summon help and to spiritually and physically heal all who are weary, be they human or not.
Traveling back out of the wood, DC was heartbroken to discover her time spent in the wood was over a year, and her parents refused to believe she was their returned daughter. Cursing her from their land, her parents stated both their children were dead. So the young girl, altered in both appear and name, fled from her home and is now traveling with brother-turned-horse, using her rusalka granted powers to try and help the creatures she finds in nature.
Abilities: This ability granted to DC from the contrite rusalka is the only power that DC has. When she simply sings, be it to herself or on the road she is currently traveling, DC will often find a wide range of creatures, mythical and not, following her to listen. If she sings for help, the closest person or creature with enough of a mind, will come to her aid of find someone who can help her.
Since DC doesn't have any "true" skills with weapons, besides knowing how to use a bow and arrow for hunting, she often uses the power granted to her to escape or dissuade her attacks. This often works best when she is outnumbered, allowing her to quickly escape from the situation.
The spiritual and physical healing that comes from this ability calms down those who are injured and soothes their minds. At the same time it speeds up their natural healing abilities by a quicker state, healing minor bruises and cuts easily, and knitting together broken muscles and bones in a few minutes. DC hopes, that from her singing to Oliver, that he will slowly remember who he used to be, or at least act more like a very intelligent horse.
Equipment: DC carries around two bows, a short bow and a long bow, using whichever one will be better for the occasion. The belt around her waist contains a few coins she has managed to round up and a knife that she uses for everything from cutting venison to stabbing people who try to steal Oliver from her. The last pouch has enough food to last for three days, since she doesn't like going through towns or large villages with Oliver. Most of the time she doesn't have to hunt for food, using her abilities to barter for food in villages, thus explaining why she never has money on her.
