I love it when people say "old games were better" because then I know they have their NostalgiaGoggles(tm) on a little too tight. Fact of the matter is, there were more developers in the 80s and 90s and more arcade games that were being ported to the consoles; finding a good game was harder back then than it is now. Now that there are less developers and bigger budgets, they can focus on more high profile projects.

Also, graphics were more important in the 90s than they were today. SEGA's whole marketing campaign for the Genesis was that it had better graphics than the NES and SNES. Shadow of the Beast, one of the most popular games on the Amiga, sold stupidly high numbers simply because it boasted 16 scrolling parallax backgrounds. The Atari generated buzz because it promised Arcade style graphics on home televisions (which was a huge lie; the Atari version of Packman and Paperboy were utter s**t).

Videogames aren't getting worse, people's expectations are just getting too high. Video game critics are turning into art critics; if a game doesn't grab them by their nuts and yank 'em off they are wholly unimpressed. It's good to challenge developers, but games haven't deevolved and unlike cinema which has hit it's peak (as far as production and cinematic techniques go; the only thing that can improve now is special effects) virtual entertainment still has a ways to go in terms of evolution. There's only so much you can do with pen and paper or paints and canvas but creating virtual worlds with realistic AI is still new and unexplored.

I took mom to the neurologist today.. he did more tests on her and said that he wants to do more. He at least sounded like he had some things in mind, though, which is very good. Better than it has been so far anyway.

He didn't give her a note though, even though she asked, so she worked today. =/

Her face is better, she said it wasn't tingly anymore anyway. Which is also very good.

So.. I guess we'll see. We still don't know what happened.

Oy. I don't know if anyone even reads this, but if someone happens to be, please keep my mom in your thoughts. Or pray for her. Or however your religion handles it.

She woke up yesterday morning with part of her face feeling tingly/pins and needles. I took her to the emergency room, and they mostly ruled out a stroke.. but they don't know what's wrong. She's still got it too. She's gonna call a neurologist sometime this morning.

They said it could be neuropathy or a ministroke.

I should be getting my notes done and studying squared away for final exams monday but I'm so worried that I can't concentrate. She's been having tinnitus (ringing in the ears) in her right ear for about six months, constant, and they don't know what's causing that either. I'm really hoping the tingling isn't permanent.

She didn't even have the doctor give her a note so she could have extra time off, so she only had yesterday and today. She might not even be able to see the neurologist today.

Ugh. I don't know what to do.
