Starting now, my journal will be a collection of known information in the Kingdom Hearts world. My first post is thanks to a fellow KH scholar, Glingar.
Xenahort
Xenahort has his beginnings in the current story when he was found one day by Ansem the Wise. Broken and nearly dead, Ansem saved him. Ansem notes that he found the boy after a significant conflict involving Keyblades. He has no memory of his life before he was rescued. Since then, Xenahort became one of the 6 students of Ansem the Wise. Xenahort was a student, apprentice and friend to Ansem and both worked together for a long time.
Later as the darkness began to encroach upon Radiant Garden, Ansem decided to experiment on hearts to learn whether a heart corrupted by Heartless could recover from being tainted with darkness. Xenahort was a willing volunteer in these experiments and was eager to find answers in this subject. Unfortunately all such experiments ended in failure.
Fearing that they were getting ‘too close to the darkness’, Ansem ordered the project to be ceased but Xenahort could not see the sense in that. In secret, he began to experiment further and continued the “Ansem Reports” that his mentor had begun with Number 0. Though written by Xenahort, they were noted to be written by ‘Ansem’ and Xenahort eventually began to use that name instead of his own.
As Xenahort’s experimentation and research continued, he was fascinated with the harbingers of darkness - the Heartless - and was convinced that he could create them artificially. He succeeded in creating a machine that could accomplish this feat and branded all artificial Heartless with the “Emblem”. These Heartless would later spread and prove to be the most prolific.
Soon, Xenahort decided that the path to power could not properly be achieved with his frail body and he decided to discard it in favor of becoming a Heartless. In doing so, two beings were born: Xemnas and Ansem (the Heartless Lord).
There is some speculation as to the origins of Xenahort that have not been truly confirmed yet. It is believed that Xenahort was an active participant in this “conflict that involved Keyblades” and may have been a Keyblade wielder himself. This is reinforced by the fact that in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix +, there is a scene with Xemnas in which he refers to an armored figure – similar to the ones seen in the Kingdom Hearts III Trailer – and refers to this figure as an ‘old friend’.
Fun Fact: Xenahort is an anagram of “No Heart” with an X added.
