Captain Lily's Log Book
These horrid filthy scoundrels broke everything in our house. They killed all of the men who stood up against them. I'm sure they did all manner of unspeakable things. I can hardly bare to think that Father's last moments on this earth were at the hands of those ruffians. They didn't even let him say "Goodbye". Heathens! They set our house on fire (cries). Shortly thereafter they broke through the door of the pump house. Mother fainted dead away. They left her there for dead (cries harder). I know I shall never see her again. Lizzie they took kicking and screaming in a separate boat. I've no idea if she is alright.
I'm so frightened, yet so angry. I would gladly kill them myself if only I possessed the knowledge and skill to do the deed. They're horrible creatures. 'They smell awful. They've no manners at all. They kill almost anything in sight. It scares me to think how long that will give my sweet Lizzie and I when we finally meet with their captain, a man named William Donner. The pirate ship, our prison, looms large in front of us. It's a massive wooden monster with canvas sails and cannons at every turn. So this is where I'm to die. I can think of friendlier places that I could wish for my life to end in than this monstrosity. We're not on board and already I feel the dread growing within.

11:45pm--- .....The rumbling in the distance is not thunder. Mr. Rhodes, the baker in town, escaped to tell us that pirates from the ship "Inferno" have attacked the town and are headed to the outlying areas in search of gold and treasure. I'm so scared. I hope that none of those horrid creatures come here. We've been hearing for the last few months that the pirate ships "Inferno" and "Ramage" are ransacking towns up and down the coast, like sharks, coming in for the kill.
The're breaking through our fences and gate. Father had us hide in the old pump house, about 1/4 mile from the house. This place smells, like something died in here. The sounds of thunder are getting louder. Mother, Lizzie and I were brought here by Father and the male servants of the house for our protection. I wish that I was a man so that I could help Father protect our home. Not that I would be much help. I'm so frightened. Father says I have spirit and that I'm too strong-willed for my own good. The noise is exploding in my ears. I do hope Father and the other men are alright. Is there to be no end to this frightening horror.

Tonight's my birthday ball. Father and I have argued lately over who would be best suited to care for me and be my husband. He feels that because of his family's money and old-world connections, Lord Townes would be the perfect choice. I argued that Jason has made his money by himself, not had it given to him by his family and that I'm pretty sure I'm in love with him. Father said he would consider it further.
11:30pm--- .....The ball was a complete success. I danced nearly the entire evening in the arms of Jason. I did for Father's sake dance at least three dances with Lord Townes, who bored me to tears the entire time with talk of his dreary horses again. I cannot stand the thought of being married to him. Even though it has been a lovely warm fall evening, there seems to be a rumbling of thunder in the distance. Oh I do hope it doesn't rain.

My eighteenth birthday is fast approaching. Lizzie, my personal maid, says it will be even grander than my cotillion. She says Father might even give consent for one of my suitors to ask me to marry him.
Lord Lawrence Townes, recently returned from England, is a stuffy, blonde-haired young man, who's solely interested in his stable of race horses. Master Mark Halyburton is still a young pimply-faced boy. He's still afraid of his own shadow. Jason Stanley is the most beautiful of the three. By comparison, his is almost as poor as a church mouse. Not to say that he doesn't have money, but he earned his fortune, though it's extensively less than either of the others. Oh I do hope Father says yes to Jason.
