Something Simple
Any kind of writing, be it fiction or just talking, I'll find something to write about. In terms of fiction, it would be different scenes with the same two characters. But not poetry. I've tried and failed.
A bored Ken. A bored Riku. Oh my.
(Note: This is, as all the other ones I've writte, is a rough draft of a scene between Ken and Riku. If you want to know who they are, read some of last week's posts. That should answer some questions. If you still have questions, add a comment or PM me. The world they are in is very much fantasy, complete with magic, orcs, and... More magic? It's more of an RPG kind of thing, so I'll be issuing hit points to the enemy and such. So, here is the scene smile

The sun's warmth spread throughout the clearing in the woods. At the edge of the clearing sat two teenagers, leaning against a tree under the shade. The air was warm, the kind that made cat's sleep under the sun, the kind that made you feel like you were safe from harm, that there wasn't anything there that could hurt you. Except for maybe rabbits. They sat there, one reading a book, the other fiddling with spells, glowing off of his fingertips. Riku sighed.

"I'm bored..." He whined softly, enough so that Ken could hear. His eyes were a brown, like that of the tree they sat against.

Ken didn't take his eyes off of the book he was reading, readjusting his reading glasses. "Well... Find something to do." Sometimes, he wondered which of them was truly older.

"Meh... I'm too lazy."

"..."

"...?"

"..., ........."

". . ." He sighed, "I'm sorry, I don't speak 'silence'. Not well, at least."

"You've been with me since I was six. You should at least be able to understand it." He commented, turning his attention back to his book.

Riku sighed again. It was relaxing, he supposed, sitting here in the shade of the tree, air tempting him to dose off. He shut his eyes. Maybe he'd take a nap...

A twig snapped.

Riku got up slowly, inwardly happy that there was something that might entertain him. Opening his eyes, he smiled at the oncoming orcs. They were hulking creatures, dirty and dark in their armor and travels, various items taken from previous kills. That potion looked decidedly from human sources. Ah, yes, it was time to play.

"Hello there, how may I help you?" He greeted, already raising his hands to write a spell. Ken rolled his jade green eyes and continued to read.

"You, human, give us shiny thing. We leave you alone." The leader of the three orcs said, gesturing at the useless pendant that Riku wore. He forgot about that pendant. He should probably get it fixed sometime. He shrugged at them.

"And if I refuse?" He said, knowing well the script.

"Then... DIE!"

Here, both teens rolled their eyes. Orcs were so predictable. Writing some things in the air, it glowed white before binding Riku and fading away. Ken raised his eyebrows.

"What did you just do?" He asked, ignoring the orcs that were charging and yelling from the other side of the clearing.

"I binded my magic and binded my strength. I should be at about one quarter of my usual speed and strength for the next fifteen minutes. That makes me... about fifteen levels above the orcs." He chuckled. "This should be fun.

"Sometimes... I just don't understand you."

Riku smiled at that. He shifted into more ready stance, already knowing how to react to these beasts. Dodge and counter was the key. There were three orcs. The one heading the charge had a knife, another a sword, the last, a pike. So... Knife, Sword, and Pike. Riku decided, identifying them with their weapons.

Knife came on quickly, thrusting the weapon at Riku. Dodging, he stepped to one side and inward, getting inside the orcs guard. Surprised, the orc too time to figure out what to do next. Too much time. Swiftly, he issued a palm thrust to Knife's chest before grabbing his wrist to send Knife into a throw. With a cry of dispair, Knife crashed into Sword.

MELEE DAMAGE: 50 + COMBO 20=70 DAMAGE.
REMAINING HP: 50
OTHER EFFECTS: IMMOBILIZATION FOR (2) TURN(S).
MELEE DAMAGE: 15
REMAINING HP: 105
OTHER EFFECTS: IMMOBILIZATION FOR (1) TURN(S).

Knife had taken most of the blow and Sword had taken less. But that left Pike, still with the full 120HP for an orc. With a pike, there wasn't really much could do. Considering that he was dealing with an orc, he guessed that the orc would aim for his heart and try and kill him.

As predicted, Pike thrusted and this time, Riku dodged and side-stepped to the outside, using his right hand to grab the pike and thrust it back into the orc's face. With a thunk, the hit was solid. There was a cry of pain and the orc let his pike fall, blood spilling out of the wound, making it hard for the orc to see. Picking up the pike, Riku threw it at the orc, aiming for the heart. The orc fell and dissintergrated, along with the pike, leaving a helmet and a HP potion.

MELEE DAMAGE: 50 + INSTANT DEATH (SUCCESS!)=170
50 OVERKILL

"Having fun, Riku?" Ken asked in boredom.

"Yeah! Want to join in?"

"... No."

Riku shrugged, picking up the potion and tossing it to his partner, and took the helmet for himself. He might have a plan as to using it against the orcs. Not even looking up from his book, Ken caught the potion easily, setting beside him as he waited for his partner to finish.

Sword had gotton up and looked unhappy. Riku frowned. It looked like this one had more intelligence than the others. He would have to be a bit more careful. Just a bit, mind you. Brandishing his sword, he came with a yell, speeding toward him with more speed than an average orc. Caught off guard, he almost didn't dodge the swipe that Sword used, one that might have taken his head off. Recovering, Riku responded by dashing into the orc's opening in his guard, allowing Riku several sucessive palm thrusts before he had to jump back when Sword turned to slash at him again.

MELEE DAMAGE: 30
REMAINING HP: 90
MELEE DAMAGE: 5
REAMINING HP: 3425

Riku mentally hit his head against a tree. He forgot to bind his HP too! Aw, well. By now, Knife had gotton up to try and charge at him again. Taking out the orc helmet he got earlier, he prepared himself. Hopefully this will work. Both orc's were trying to use a pincer movement, charging at the same time, leaving little openings to escape.

As Knife thrusted again, Riku responded by thrusting the helmet at the knife, and the knife actually manage to puncture through. Shocked, Knife just stared. Equally shocked, but knowing that he needed to continue, he twisted the helmet so that Knife would have to let go of his weapon and tossed it into the air as Sword came close. Jumping quickly, he dodged the diagonal slash and took the knife out of the helmet, throwing it easily at Sword as Sword effectively killed Knife. Sword didn't have time to react as the knife came at him, hitting him between the eyes with a wet thunk. Both orcs dissintegrated and left some items on the ground. Riku took the money and the potions and went back to Ken.

TRICKERY: 45+5=50
REMAINING HP: 0

RANGE DAMAGE: 50 + ELEMENT OF SURPRISE: 40=90
REMAINING HP: 0

"Well, that was enlightening." He commented, settling back down for a nap.

Ken sweatdropped. "Indeed..." Now he was bored after watching Riku fight.

Aw... Man...

(Note: I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to write since the scene has another part to it. I'll may have to come back later and finish it. But then again, I may not. Oh well...)

How I fixed my Senioritis.
Well... It's an odd story really, if you're willing to read. So, I had a test the other day, and the day before that, I was studying like any other procrastinating college student. The same day, my mom and I went out to get groceries, where I noticed that there were older DVD's that were on sale for five bucks each. Good deal, I say. So, I go over and get Finding Forrester and Seabiscut. Then, we went home and I went back to homework (sort of. At one point or another, I went online...). After that, we had dinner, I did my usual thing and went back to homework. Again... sweatdrop Deciding to hurry it up, so that I could watch a DVD when I was finished, I sped up, making my handwriting a bit sloppy. Anyway, after I finished and wanted to watch my movie, my dad asked me how long the movie was, and proceeded to tell me that it was too late to watch it and that I needed my sleep for the upcoming test (please note that at this point, it was 9:00pm and the movie would take about an hour or two). Arguing that I had been waiting for Seabiscut to be on sale for years and I wanted to watch it beacuse I was waiting, my dad responded that I could wait another day. Then the childish, immature side of me that wanted me to watch the movie because it was fun, or do any other kind of fun thing, got whacked and was promptly knocked out. Eventually, later that night (20 mins. or so) I appologized to my mom and dad for yelling at them (raising my voice) and told them that I would wait. I was sullen and unhappy, but I knew they were right and that I could wait for my fun. So, on Gaia, you may not see me as often. Best way to contact me is by e-mail: gaberoku@yahoo.com.

Well, then, I've got to go.

Something about Senioritis
Senioritis

So... As you should have guessed by now, I'm a Senior in High School taking classes in a Community College. It's under a Quarter system so now I'm in the Spring Quarter of 2007. I'll also be graduating in June and will be going to prom when it comes around. Supposedly, I should be busy doing school work and complaining about teachers, hoping that the quarter ends soon and that I get a good grade so my parents don't chew me out.

Unfortunately, I've been affected by the imaginary disease, "Senioritis". Being the half-nerd/geek that I am, I decided to look it up in Wikipedia, partially out of curiousity to see if they had it, and also to see if it was something I could actually write about without making a fool of myself. This is what they had to say:

"Senioritis is a term used colloquially in the United States and Canada to describe the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school or college careers. It is typically said to include slowness, procrastination, apathy regarding school work, and a tendency toward truancy."

This means that it is common among students, during their last year (or quarter) in High School or College, to be, in a word, lazy. It's pretty bad because usually, I get B's. Average, really. But now, my grades are slipping. I'm not going to embarrass myself by telling them, but all you need to know is that they are slipping and falling down.

How to deal with it:

Apparently, wikipedia has those "External Links", some of which involve "how to deal with Senioritis". Or something along those lines. There was... four? links that they showed, only one of which I found interesting or applicable to me. Here's the link: http://districtadministration.ccsct.com//page.cfm?p=20. I didn't really have time to read it fully and I apologize. I'll probably read it later and edit this post, but we'll see. So, anyway, from what I've skimmed of the article, it talks about senioritis and possible solutions to it, from the view of the school, not as the student.

As to how to deal with it: I don't know right now, since I'm suffering from it. But apparently, since it's the same old thing over and over, we get tired of it and want to just have fun and relax. When we do that, the grades go down (unless you're a genius and don't have to study... Lucky you). If the grades slip down too far, Universities and Colleges that have already accepted you may withdraw that offer. That's the worst case scenario, anyway. But anyway, for now my philosophy is to keep the grades the best you can get them while balancing the amount of fun you get. Kinda hard though, I've been trying to do that and have been getting (out of my three classes) two B's and... some-other-letter-that-isn't-a-B sweatdrop . Ah well, I try. Hopefully I can try harder and get the latter grade up to where it should be.

Well then, I'm off to class.
