So, since I'm out of the house now, and can borrow movies, watch them however I please, I watched The Golden Compass. I remember my parents telling me I couldn't because the movie and book went against Catholicism ideals. However, I watched it anyway because I didn't care so much about whatever ideals the movie was trying to present. I just like fantastical worlds, not so much about politics and the underlying message.
The first thing I realized in the first 10 minutes of the movie was that I very very very much disliked Lyra Belacqua. She's rude, obnoxiously so. So much in fact, that I had a very difficult time paying attention to the rest of the movie.
I did, however, like the polar bear, Iorec Byrnison. He reminded me of the Coca Cola polar bear. I do love Ian McKellen, too. Lovely voice.
I like the idea of having your soul in an animal, makes for an interesting world. Other than those though, the polar bear and the idea of the world, the movie grated on my nerves.
Very much dislike.
