The Road To Nowhere
Lilith
He didn't open the window, even though the air in the room was thick and stifiling. He didn't want to share her with any one, not even the moon as is gazed in through the curtains. He cast it a jealous look, then turned his attention to the form on the bed. Her skin had already taken on the tallow color of death, her closed eyelids tainted a bruised blue. Hair the color of a raven's wing was spread asymmetrically across the satin covered pillow, dull and tangeled from his restless fingers as they twisted the dry locks in a nervous caress. Those lips, once red and plump, apple tasting lips, were parted slightly in a pantomine of breath as she lay on the bed. The red nightgown she wore was twisted up, her thighs still smooth and pale.

It was on her thigh that he placed his hand, shuddering at the clammy feel.A smile crossed his lips as he layed his head on her breast, his other hand stroking her hair. Last night... the beautiful memory of last night came back to him, his smile creeping to cover his face. Her neck had felt so fragile and small beneath his grip. Her eyes, those blue orbs so full of life and trust, how enchanting they were when they were glassy with tears. Her soft gasps of breath as the air was cut of from her lungs calmed him, a steady pace of exhales. "Keep your eyes open..." he had whispered. She did, fighting in vain the tears that escaped down her cheeks.

She had always been willing to serve him, to lay down her life for his pleasure... He closed his moonshine eyes, imagining a heartbeat beneath the chilled flesh. When he could not place it, he sighed sadly. "That's terrible... and you were my favorite, too... Tsk, tsk..."

He sat up, swinging his legs out of bed and standing on the carpeted floor. Her sandals were there, along with the black robe she had worn. It lay in a heap to gather dust on the bed post. The darkness presed heavily around him and swallowed everything in the room. He felt the silence begin to strangle him as he reached the door. Light poured into the room like sweet blush wine, drenching the room with shine for a moment as he stood there, admiring the scene. "Sweet dreams tonight..." he whispered. Then he was gone, stealing into the street to prey on the night.
