Invasion
Being ordinary is what Julia thought of herself-an ordinary schoolgirl trying to get on with her life. Not until the day her best friend, an alien, tells her that she has a destiny to fulfill she realizes being ordinary was the biggest lie in her lif
First Chapter
There are things in the world humans know little about. They live among humans, hiding in plain sight. They have world’s apart, but a planet similar to Earth as well as their appearance. Humans don’t pay much attention to the things that seem to be right in front of their eyes.
In a quiet country, far into Pennsylvania, there stood a house and in it, there lived a happy family. All together, especially on holidays.
There were three of us, Caroline, Henry and me, Julia. When I was four, people said I had the cutest smile, and eye lashes that perfected my beauty. I believed everybody back then, adult were the people I always looked up to. But as I grew older, things were beginning to change.
But that one day, was the day that changed my life forever.
I was having a great time at my birthday party, keeping a happy face, and entertaining guests, like I was taught.
Being little, I didn’t have many friends. I didn’t start school yet, which explained something. My mother didn’t want to have an boring party, so she invited her own friends.
I didn’t like them. The only thing they were concerned about were their nails. If they chipped their nail, they would scream angrily and leave. I asked one lady to play with me and she shooed me off. But as they sat there, they were the attention driving everybody to look at them. The highest fashion styles, elegant dresses and hats. I told myself that one day, I would be like them.
But still, I was supposed to be the center of attention!
The only woman that was understandable was my grandmother. Her face was so kind and relieving, that it kept me going.
“Hi young lady, how old are you today--wait, let me guess…21?” Grandma asked with her toothless grin.
“No grama, you should know--four.” I explained, showing four fingers.
“But you look old--probably as old as me! Nah, just kidding honey. Go play with that kid over there.” She pointed to a boy pulling grass out with nobody around him. “He might one day be your future husband!” She added laughing.
I made a face at her, showing my tongue, but I agreed since I had no other friends to play with.
“Knock knock,” I said.
He turned around, with an unreadable expression.
“Who’s there?”
“ME!” I yelled it out, and I might’ve frightened him because I traced the direction of his eyes and it lead to the party. When I turned around, he was gone.
I thought I was the reason he left. I was about to go after him to apologize, but my dad came from an ice cream store with loads of ice cream sundaes, ready to be eaten. I still enjoy scooping a large chunk into my mouth, and letting it drip down the sides of my mouth.
Caroline made me clean up and called me to the cake. We sang Happy Birthday and after, opened presents.
By the time I sprinted to a nearby park, it was twilight. I found him sitting on sand next to the lake.
He heard me coming and turned around.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you off."
"I didn't leave because of you," he said.
"Then why did you go?"
"Your mom was looking at me mean. Like she knew I wasn't supposed to be there."
"What's your name?" I ask shyly, digging up a hole in the sand with my foot.
"Dean, I like your eyes--"
The world beneath me trembled and I look over to the direction the loud rumble awakened the air. It was coming from a scary abandoned forest. The forest was covered in sticks and leaves in piles.
I held out my hand away from me searching to grasp onto Dean. I was scared, and it showed. I turned around and he once again left me alone.
