"What do we want?"
FREEDOM
When do we want it?
NOW!
If you have a cause all you need is a slogan, a placard some loud hailers, a few celebrities a politician or two, who can see a vote in it and you are well on your way to a protest/demonstration. The next step may be a little more serious, but sure to make a point. Civil disobedience. In a nutshell that means to break the very laws that are restricting your freedom or your rights. A little don’t come quietly when the co[s come to arrest you. Maybe build a stockade like the miners did here in Ballarat in protest against the high fee the government charged for miner’s rights. The siege at the Eureka stockade lasted a few hours only but the eventual outcome was the removal of the fee and the eventually the right to Vote. There is more to it than that of course. The next step is to have a Tea Party, Declare War against the Poms, The British, if you prefer, Grab a pitchfork or a muzzleloader and shot anything wearing red. Drastic action? Ask an American on any day never mind July 4th The same question could be asked of a Frenchman ten days later. The answer will be the same.
Am I a warmonger? No. Is freedom worth going to war over? Too bloody right it is? Because true democratic freedom was to hard earned not to fight to preserve and win for those with out it. Are we in danger of loosing our freedom? Ken oath we are. From all the obvious threats political and religious. Also, surprise, surprise, from elected democratic governments themselves who want to strip our rights away from us for their own political power and gain citing the old “its for your own good as its usual excuse. It is too easy to convince the average person to give up their freedom. Heck they will even vote to allow the changes to go ahead.
Let me tell you a little yarn.
Back in High School my class was studying different forms of Government. We had to learn about everything from Democracy to Socialism, Communism, Dictatorships, and Monarchies you name it we learned about it. At the end of it all there were 2 teams formed to debate the pros and cons of Democracy Verses Communism. I lead the debate on the Communists side with 2 other mates to help out. At the end the class had to vote on which form of Government was most appealing. In the beginning I believed that since all the class live in a democratic free society that I would not have a hope, but I gave it my best shot. At the end of the Debate my mates and I convinced the class by one vote that communism was the best. Whilst taking pride in my teams win. I have always been bothered by the thought that if a kid of 13 can convince his peers of a bad idea then how much better could someone with more persuasive methods at their disposal do. In other words, how easy can our freedoms be stripped away?
