Area 51

In 2004, ahead of the game's release, Paramount Pictures announced that they had reached an agreement around the acquisition of film rights for the game.[1] In March 2007, counter-cultural comic book author Grant Morrison was hired to adapt the game as a screenplay.[2]

God Of War

A film adaptation was announced in 2005. [2] Nearly one week prior to the release of God of War II in the U.S., creator David Jaffe confirmed that a completed script had been penned by David Self and would be sending it out to an unspecified "huge-name director." Jaffe also expressed interest in seeing actor Djimon Hounsou in the role of the protagonist, Kratos. "You'd have to get past the fact that Djimon is African American and Kratos is Greek, but in terms of the way he looks and his acting ability and his physique — I can't think of a better choice." [3]

Furthermore, on Comic-con 2007 Game head's Geoff Keighley introduced creator of God of War, David Jaffe to infamous film-director, Uwe Boll. David was asked by Geoff "Would you really let him direct God of War?", David answers "If it was my call you ask me? Truthfully? No, I would not." Uwe replied "Wait until you see Postal, then you judge." David also confirmed that Universal Studios is behind the making of the God of War movie and that he has no idea "Where it's at".[4]

Gears Of War

On March 20, 2007, it was announced that New Line Cinema had purchased the rights to make a Gears of War film, with Stuart Beattie writing the script along with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who will be producing it. The film is scheduled to be released in 2009.[61] Producer Wyck Godfrey said of the film adaptation, "I'm not a gamer, but what blew me away about Gears was how it captures the mythology of a war mission and how high the stakes are."[62] It has been announced in the May 2007 issue of Game Informer that Cliff Bleszinski (lead designer of the game) will be the executive producer of the film.[citation needed] On August 3, 2007, AICN.com reported that Len Wiseman was to direct the movie adaption of Gears of War'.[citation needed]

"Gears of War is getting ready to go into production, with at this point no word on the helmer. No doubt a directors name will be dropped very soon. The movie will take place during the Pendulum Wars which is the 79 year war that manking fought on Sera. The movie will follow Marcus Fenix as they battle a monstrous insect invasion. It seems the story will be told with some flash backs and involve a mix of characters. Sounds promising! Stuart Beattie (Collateral) is writing the screenplay and Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing via their Temple Hill.

Gears of War has sold over 3 million units and is hugely popular on Microsoft's Xbox Live service, which allows players to compete against each other online. Though it was released in November and is available only for the Xbox 360 console, it quickly became the fourth bestselling game of 2006 in the U.S.
