wafflechan likes breakfast.
awesome? awesome.
the internet is trying to kill me.
Why is it that I've had nothing but problems with the internet since moving in here? Let me summarize:

A month ago, Nick ordered Verizon DSL from his work internet connection. The order went through, and he got an email saying that the self-install kit should arrive in the mail in 3-5 business days. Well, 3-5 business days came and went and we didn't get s**t in the mail. So, Nick calls Verizon and the lady on the phone says that they have no order from us and she didn't even think that DSL was available in our area! She advised us to call back the next day during business hours to find out for sure. Guess what? She was right. So we mutually decided, "Okay, ******** Verizon. I guess we're stuck with Comcast."

So, the next week, Nick went online at work and ordered Comcast. Once again, he got an email saying that a tech would be at our apartment to hook up the cable the next Thursday, Friday, or Saturday between the hours of 9am and 12pm. I thought that spread was pretty ridiculous, and the fact that they couldn't even tell us the day they'd come was absurd, but I let it go. The week came when they were supposed to show up, and I realized I wasn't going to be able to be home on Friday if they decided that would be the day they showed up. So, I waited until they didn't show up on Thursday, and then I asked Nick to call them to make sure they didn't come on Friday, but rather came on Saturday. Nick called them, and they were like, "wait a minute, what's your name?" GUESS WHAT! THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE AN ORDER FOR US IN THE SYSTEM. ********.

So, after a little bit of venting to the poor sucker on the other end of the phone at comcast, Nick schedules a real date for them to come hook everything up for us. Saturday it was, and the guy came early, even! I thought that was a good sign, for sure. First he installed the cable for the TV, and it came time to install the modem. He seemed really confused by the fact that we owned our own cable modem, and when I showed him the wireless router, he got even more confused. In fact, he said, "ooooh no, I don't mess with those things. I only do the modem." I got a little annoyed, but I figured it was no big deal, even though at our old apartment, the tech was more than happy to set it up for us. So, he installed the modem or whatever the ******** it is that he did, and then we went to hook it up to our computer and it wasn't working. After about 20 minutes of him half-assing it because he clearly had no idea what he was doing, he chalked it up to having something wrong with our computer. He suggested we reinstall internet explorer and then run the comcast self-install disc, then he left. What the ******** kind of tech ******** leaves before he even gets the very thing he came to install working? Anyway, Nick and I figured that its probably better off that he left because it was painfully clear that the only thing he knew was what they taught him in training.

Anyway, after about 4 hours, Nick finally got the wireless router to work. Unfortunately, it only allows for one computer to connect to it at a time. What he ******** is that? Every single night since we've gotten the internet, something has gone wrong. Either my computer randomly stops recieving the signal from the router, or the router stops sending a signal, or the router is sending and recieving but is somehow not sending the internet connection. I just don't understand it. Anyway, the internet went down for no apparent reason once again tonight for several hours. The cable signal was fine, the router was working, but my computer decided that the router didn't exist anymore and stopped recieving the signal.

Ugh, let me just say that its ******** annoying. I just found out that comcast is trying to charge extra to set up people with a wireless network. I guess making like a 400% profit per account wasn't enough for them. You know whats ******** up? I am from King of Prussia, PA. Comcast is based in that area. My town was one of the first places in the country to get domestic cable modem access. So, my dad went ahead and got it. It was $50 a month, but it sounded pretty awesome, so we figured we'd go for it. Do you know how long ago that was? That was in 1999. Yeah, you heard me correctly. 1999. Do you know how much they are charging now? $50 a month. They have thousands upon thousands of customers and a monopoly over the cable market right now, and their monthly price hasn't gone down one dime. It makes me want to smash someone's head in.

Anyway, I think that maybe comcast has something to do with this bullshit. Maybe thats why the tech acted so weird when I pulled out the router. Anyway, I don't know if they're somehow ******** with the router settings or what. I don't know enough about it to bypass it if they are. Whatever it is, it makes me want to put a hammer to the modem AND the router. The end. stressed
