Terry waited at the entrance to the cafeteria, everyone spilled in at once, and he made his way in and sat down next to his friends, Nathe, Katie, and Thomas (Tommy for short).
“Aye Terry what’s up?” Katie asked. Terry didn’t answer, he unwrapped his ham sandwich.
“Terry doesn’t talk, he’s his own person, always trying to look cool and impr-“
“Nathe shut up.” Terry cut him off, everyone laughed. Nathe being who he is always tries to get in Terry’s way. “That’s what we ought to call you, OP.” Nathe laughed, Terry just shook his head, and he chewed his sandwich then unwrapped his other one and ate it too. There was silence for a couple minutes until Tommy broke it.
“Terry, you know we have practice today.” He said.
“I know.” Terry answered.
“Hope we’re doing gold fish again.” Terry said.
“Why?”
“Cause’ it helps with speed.”
“So it still sucks.”
Terry decided not to argue. Katie looked down, then up again meeting Terry’s eyes, her eyes seemed to say something to him but he looked back down. He looked up again, she was still looking at him, then he crumpled up his bag and looked back at her, she was still looking at him. Finally Terry couldn’t take it, he was about to say something but another voice did before him.
“Can I sit here?” A voice said.
Nathe, Katie, and Tommy slowly lifted their heads. It was one of the lacrosse players, he was really good but no one liked him. Katie looked to Terry, Terry looked to Tommy, Tommy looked to Nathe, and Nathe looked to Katie, they stayed there for a few seconds, Terry swallowed.
“Sure.” Katie grinned.
Katie oh Katie I hope you are ready to be sent to the hospital. Terry thought, he stood up and bent over the table.
“You a**.” He whispered to her, and then he sat back down. Katie chuckled. So that was why Katie was staring at him as if trying to say ‘Be far warned.’ Doesn’t matter, it still made him angry. If Terry remembered correctly the lacrosse player’s name was Lewis. Lewis talked too much, and he always thought that he was smarter and better than Terry.
“How are you?” Lewis asked.
“Not very good.” Tommy said.
“Why?”
Don’t say it! Don’t say it Tommy! You will end up hurt!
“Because my head hurts.”
Good boy Tommy!
Terry ate his apple and drank his juice, after he would have his history class, the teacher always seemed like he was out to get Terry. Terry put his bag in the garbage and gave Katie a glare. He walked out, having time to go to the library and read the pages that he needed. When he finished reading he stood up and walked to his locker, he put the book in then grabbed his binder and walked to his history class. Although the teacher might not have been Terry’s favorite, History was one of his favorite classes.
As Terry walked into history class everyone stared at him. He looked around.
“What am I new or something?” He asked, the class turned back to the teacher and Terry went to sit down. The teacher handed out tests. Terry grabbed his and got to work on it, writing and writing. He shook out his wrist when he was done and handed his paper to the teacher, Mr. Monhan. When everyone had finished their test they had about ten minutes left in class and Mr. Monhan went about with one of his lectures about the revolutionary war.
“Without the British we would not be America!” The teacher said.
“Well duh, we were the British.” Someone pointed out.
“Yes but look at how much the British did to us…”
“Us? Are you kidding there was no such thing us during the war!”
“Well it wasn’t just one great war…” Terry shrugged.
“Aw m’lad you’ve got it! Just think of how many battle were in the revolutionary war? Boston tea party, the Boston massacre…Ect.” Mr. Monhan said.
Terry stood up, completely confused; he started walking toward the door.
“Teyrin… Where are you going?” The teacher asked.
Terry turned around.
What it's to you?
“To get a drink.” Terry explained as he continued walking, he walked down the stairs to the bathroom and got a drink of water from the drinking fountain. Terry shoved his hands into his pocket and looked up at the stairs; and he just stood there. After waiting there for a while he decided to go back to class, he walked up the stairs into the classroom and sat back down.
After the argument raged on for a while the bell rang, one more class and Terry could go to his track practice. The halls flooded with people, someone pushed Terry down and Terry got pissed. Terry stood up and chased the kid down, he grabbed the kid by the shoulders and turned him around, the boy punched at Terry but Terry caught his punch and twisted it around he pushed the kid onto the railing.
“Want to try and do that again?” Terry asked, he struggled under Terry’s grip.
“Terry!” Katie yelled.
“Let him go!” She said.
Terry did as Katie said then he turned to her. Katie walked over to him.
“He’s just a freshman.” She explained.
“What do you know about him?” Terry asked.
“He just joined the track team.”
“What events?”
“100 meter, javelin, relay, and the one mile.”
“So why’d he push me?”
Katie looked at Terry.
“I don’t read minds.” She said and then walked off.
Terry went back to his open locker and closed it then he went to math. Math was on of his easy classes normally he could get at least a B on all of his tests unless they made no sense but there were only one or two tests per year out of all his classes where he failed them. Terry sat down in the chair right in front. Mr.Wyet began on one of his lectures that always ended with ‘Math could’ve made everyone smart.’ This made no sense because math always did make everyone smart. Terry watched the clock but he really didn’t like to because the time would always seem slower, he never watched it snow either because he knew if he watched it snow then the snow would stop.
Finally the bell rang; it seemed almost as if a miracle. Terry stood up and started to walk down the hall; he grabbed his bag out of his locker and shoved his homework and book into it then walked down the track.
