Just a quick entry to say I'm still alive. I went tea ceremony hopping with my host mother today. (I'm going to call her "host mother" instead of "landlady" from now on. "Next-door neighbor" is too long to type.) Of course it was a bunch of old ladies in kimono and old men in suits, so I was the youngest one. But whatever. They gave me the option to go shopping, but I was never really into that.
The tea ceremonies were located in Okayama City in this BEAUTIFUL park. One lady stared at me so hard she almost ran into me. Other people gave me the "what the heck are you doing here" looks. If you've read my previous entries you'd know this was normal. But I decided to bring it up because it's Culture Day today, which absolutely horrifies me. It's about as useful and informative as Columbus Day. It's a day when Japanese people try to fool themselves into thinking they give a crap about other cultures and don't treat non-Japanese like complete outsiders.
ANYWAY, the tea ceremonies were cool. And the tea they make is really good. Sadly though, I have a cold, so I wasn't feeling as well as I would have liked for such a beautiful day. Seriously the park is so nice with fish ponds, and flowers, and Japanese style everything... and a real old-school Japanese castle in the background.
Ah yes, and Mars has been super bright lately. For some reason I can't see many stars out here, even though I'm in the middle of no where. It's weird. But Mars is still a plus.
