Japan Entry: Kyoto and Otaku
Alright, time to start posting again.

The last time I went to Kyoto, I went with the daughter of one of the teachers in town. She only spoke Japanese, so for a couple days, I was only speaking Japanese as well. I was really proud of myself at this point, because we understood each other completely. It was a lot of fun, and she's really nice. Sure, she had the retarded Japanese girl habit of wearing a short skirt in freezing weather with snowflakes falling occasionally (while complaining about it the whole time) but other than that... those couple days were perfect. We went to this restaurant and both ordered a meal made completely from tofu. It was like Iron Chef, where half the time you don't know the stuff you're eating is tofu, which is good.

And we both went to anime shops, because she is a self-proclaimed Japanese otaku. No really, she said that. If you saw her room, you would understand. She let me have a look around and I saw her cosplay pictures, her Gothic Lolita items and magazines, PINK, manga, wall of Glay band items, PINK, the stuffed animals, PINK, and I unfortunately found her collection of hentai. Sure, it doesn't sound like much, but if you had SEEN the room... oh man.

On the ride home she showed me the anime and band images on her cell phone. She showed me one picture, saying that the anime was very old and that I probably didn't know it. I looked and it was Fushigi Yuugi, which, sure... it's technically old, but anime doesn't really age in the states. You have the new, and then you have the rest. And soon the new becomes the rest, but never loses its appeal.

Finally her dad took us to this really nice restaurant where the lights were nice and dim and they played jazz music while projecting fireworks on the wall. That's the main reason I'm typing this entry out... to remind me of that restaurant. It was perfect. And the bathroom was actually one of those closets under the stairs where you can see how the ceiling slants. They stuck a toilet in there, and a sink and flowers. But somehow it was all just perfect.
