First, a question for the other ladies around here: Which dress should I wear? I accidentally bought both of the gold and white prom dresses from the cash shop. I think I want to sell one in the Marketplace, but I am not sure which to wear and which to sell. Yesterday I was wearing the "voluptuous wrap" dress and today I am wearing the "slinky split dress"... You can go to the cash shop and preview both, and let me know which one you think I should sell.
Now, regarding names:
Let's just take it on face value that a side effect of loathing the name my parents gave me to the point that I'd go to court and change it is that I tend to see names as labels that can be changed as circumstances dictate rather than something you're stuck with. That's the "given" in this particular question.
I am thinking about changing my name IRL-- informally this time, at least to start with. I did this once (formally) before, but I think I've outgrown this name. Also, the name I picked last time was a compromise-- I picked a middle name to soothe my parents' feelings (which didn't really work) and I picked a first name based on criteria other than "OMG, I love this name!" -- mostly wanting to pick something short, easy to pronounce (across several languages), easy to spell, and not too weird.
Short isn't so important for me in a first name now, since I ditched the hyphenated last name when I got remarried. (Sorry, Geoff and Calypso... I do apologize for saddling you with that hyphen.) "Easy to pronounce" turned out to be a joke. My name is Mia, but invariably, people see it and say "Maya". I should have just named myself "Maya". Easy to spell, sure... but who cares when people mispronounce it every time they see it. Not too weird doesn't matter to me anymore. I am too old now to care if anyone thinks I am a weirdo.
So, here's the question part: What should I call myself in this second half of my life? I am open to any suggestions, including names straight out of a random name generator. I prefer names that mean something, even if they only mean something in your personal conlang or some other strange system of symbolism you've devised.
Some names that I currently think are groovy (i.e. hypotheically, I would put on a list if I were naming a child) would be Sasha, Kaia, Violet, Clover, Saoirse (pronounced 'Seer-sha' or 'Sair-sha', depending on where you're at. Excuse the odd spelling; it can't help it, it's Irish.), Ruby (even though it's the name of a fat, animated bunny), Catherine (nickname: "Cat"... It's old-fashioned in a classic way)... I like a nice mix of sounds, but I tend to go for the "ah" and "ee" vowels, and I like softer consonants (Fricatives FTW.)
I suppose I could go by one of my screen names; it would be a strange twist in my story to unify my RL identity with my Net identity by assuming my Net identity in RL. Whattaya think? Should I be Tweezle all the time?
