"Adrian, hurry up!" I called.

"I'm coming, Skye!" Adrian called back.

Adrian has been my best friend ever since we were born. We've always been at each others side while fighting monsters in the closet, and "zombies in the woods. And now, we were having a race to my house for lunch.

I stopped at the door, hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath. Soon, Adrian was at my side. "Man, Skye. You're fast!"

I laughed. "Thanks. You're getting quicker, Adrian."

"You think so?"

"Uh huh! And with the lunch my mom made us, it'll help!"

"Let's go then! I'm starved!" Adrian said opening the door. I followed close behind. We sat at the kitchen table, but were soon disappointed to find no food on the table. Adrian looked at me. "I thought you're mom was making us lunch, Skye."

"I thought so, too," I replied looking around the empty pale blue kitchen. "Maybe she's in the living room." I hopped down from the chair and Adrian did the same. We walked down the hall to the living room and found it dark...very dark.

"Mom?" I called out.

"Mrs. Abbott?" Adrian called out.

Suddenly lights turned on and friends and family popped out yelling, "Surprise!"

"Happy 8th Birthday Adrian and Skye!" my mother said.

Adrian and I looked at each other, smiled, and ran up to my mother and gave her the biggest hug in the world! Yes, Adrian and I had the same birthday and we thought it was so cool. So did our parents. But Adrian and I always knew that it meant we'd be friends forever.
