Social Justice Poem
Written on February 25th, 2008
Standing over the hot stove
She waits for him to come home
She hopes
Dinner is alright
She prays he enjoys every bite
"Dinner was awful!" he exclaims
He grabs her wrist
And slaps her face
Tears don't form
She's used to this sort of thing
He saunters over to the couch
Kicks off his shoes
Takes a seat
He calls for drinks
One after the next
Until he can no longer stand on his own
She's in the bedroom
Getting the bed ready and
His pajamas out
He stumbles into the room holding onto the door fram for support
vision a blur, he complains those aren't his pajamas
He acusses her of cheating
Shes says nothing in her defense
He grabs her around the neck
Presses her against the wall
Spits in her face as he yells at her
Throws her across the room
She hits the side of the dresser
She lays there
Until he's dressed and in bed
She sneaks out of the room
And curls up on the couch
She wants to tell somebody
She wants to tell everything
But something tells her not too
Afraid od a worse punishment
She stays on the couch all night
She doesn't get a wink of sleep
She continues to get beaten
She continues to stay silent
