My High School Life
My Life
Chapter Two- The Bad News
“Your father and I are getting a divorce.” Stop right there. Divorce. The word shot a bullet through Danielle’s heart. Divorce? Did I really just here that word come from my mother? She thought this, and then realized that in a way she knew it would eventually come to this. All the fights that had happened because of some thing Dad had done. Usually, he was to blame ever since he touched that first sip of liquor after the cruise. The alcohol had changed him completely, he seemed to never have time for the family anymore, and there was always some weird fragrance on him whenever he came home, usually late at night. It couldn’t be that he wanted to be around us, could it be that he’s....
“CHEATING?!?!” This loud exclamation that came from Danielle shocked even her. “You’ve been cheating on my mother?” She was in hysterics now, and her face was red, redder than an apple and hot as the sun as she screamed, “What the hell is WRONG with you?” This was obviously the reaction her mother expected, so he tried to calm her down.
“Danni, listen” he began, but she cut him off.
“Don’t you EVER call me Danni; my name is Danielle to you! Why did you do this to me?” And with that, the girl fled out of the living room. As she left, the man who was formerly her father grabbed the bags her mother had packed, and peeled out of the driveway.
Chapter Three- The Prison
Danielle ran down the hall to the dark confinements of her room. Why did my parents have to ruin my life? She pondered this as she slammed the door shut and spun the volume dial on her stereo to the loudest it would go. Lying on her pillow, listening to the solid drumming of the music, she turned the recent events in the living room over and over again in her head, until she finally submitted herself to sleep in a terrible dream.
---
She was in a room, a very peculiar room, which was a very small room. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she noticed that the room only had one door. Then she realized why the room was so dark, it had no windows. The only light that trickled into the room was that coming through the bars on the door. Wait a second. Bars on the door? That could only mean one thing.
I’m in a prison, Danielle thought. That can’t be right. My dreams don’t usually have prisons. She tried to imagine a different setting, but found that she didn’t have any control over this dream. That’s odd she thought. I’m going to try to wake up. She couldn’t do this either. Okay then, time for Plan C.
“Help!” she yelled, or tried to at least. She had no voice. This was beginning to bother her. She couldn’t wake up, she couldn’t talk, she couldn’t even change the scenario. She was at the mercy of her mind. What was worse, she had no idea what her mind was capable of. She knew that she watched scary movies sometimes, but she never had any nightmares. What could be the worst that could happen?
Suddenly Danielle jumped as a loud noise scared her. A man, (or was it a man?) slammed a door and walked down the hall. The reason she didn’t know if it was a man is because he was purple. He was about eight feet tall with long white hair, or it was longer than Danielle’s hair anyway, coming down to the middle of his back, and his eyes were, burning? Yes, red flames consumed the vicinity of his eyes, but that wasn’t all that was strange about this man, and his teeth were the size of toothbrushes when he opened his mouth, and they were razor-sharp, too. He had horns on his head, like that of a demon, and wings like those of a very large bat’s, but the man’s presence had a more evil feeling, she wasn’t sure what he was.
The man caught her gaze. <What are you looking at?> he demanded, but yet she did not actually hear him, the voice was in her head. <Don’t you know who I am?>
<N-n-n-not r-r-really, sir,> she managed to squeak out, and was surprised that her voice wasn’t audible, that it could only be heard in her head, like the strange figure standing before her.
<I’m the one who owns this castle you’re in,> the creature snarled, giving her a nasty look that made her hair stand on end as she shrank back into the shadows.
So it’s a castle, she thought. That explains the damp room. I got to get out of here.
<You can’t escape,> he laughed.
<What? How did you…>
<This is my world now, you have no control here anymore,> he said as he stuck his head through the bars in the cell. Or rather, the bars parted for him as he twisted his neck like a snake would twist its body. His face right next to hers, he explained with a wicked toothed grin, <I am your fear. Your emotions you had as your little daddy left you were the thoughts of fear, anger and disbelief. Well, as long as you’re in here that is exactly what you will feel. You will NEVER forget what happened tonight!> And with that, the creature that still had no name, loudly laughing to himself walked down the hall and out of sight.
