Short Story

Close your eyes. Now imagine an endless labyrinth that is always changing, always expanding. You are in this labyrinth. Look up, past the plant wall and into the grey sky that will cry for all eternity. Begin walking through this labyrinth where nature seems to have taken control. It's a place you see angels one minute and demons the next. It is a place where animals will guide you to your destination. Every turn will lead you to the same place, carrying you deeper into the abyss, though taking you on an adventure through unknown pieces of someone else's life. Occasionally a black wolf appears from under the forested wall, mapping out the labyrinth and leading you to the Inner Sanctum of this maze. As you continue weaving through this labyrinth, take a quick look around at the paths you can choose. You have come to a crossroads, each direction having its own unique design but still being part of this place. Look back, the walls and ground are alive with plants and animals and the wolf is watching you from the shade. To the left, a magnificent field where many things that have never been seen before have gathered forming a society of odd shapes, sizes and creatures. To the right, a dark castle corridor with sounds of clashing blades sings from the darkness. Take the path ahead, there lies a portal, step inside. You find yourself in a new location. It's dark with the stars and moon shining, giving the area a mystical glow. You are standing on an island, floating in the night. It's small with a waterfall, whose river runs off the edge and into the night. The water faintly glows from the moonlight, giving off a calm feeling when looking into the pool. Only you are here for it is a sacred place and many secrets linger here. Study the scenery, look around. Something shiny is sitting on a rock next to the waterfall, a small, silver box. With curiosity you reach towards the box and lift it from its resting place. 'Wulfreiks' is engraved on the lid and a small red light emits from under the lid as it slowly opens. You bring your face closer to the box, trying to see what's inside. Before it is fully opened and just before you get to see what's inside, a disembodied arm reaches from nothingness and snaps it shut. "These are my deepest, darkest secrets. They are not for you to know…..not yet." The rest of the body slowly comes into existence, revealing a familiar figure. "Leave this place, in one day you will be welcomed here, but now is not that time." An invisible force grabs at your back and sends you flying off the island and into complete darkness. A loud click startles you awake. You are looking at a friend's writing. Soon you begin to wonder, was that all a dream?
