the first day of my log: the religion of my generation
At school walking through the halls everyone either see's or has seen that group of students.
the jesus freaks.
geeks for god.
the group of students who get together once a week to discuss religion, god and of course those touchy subjects. they delve into their souls seeking something the rest of us can't seem to comprehend.
do they seek salvation, or simply refuge?
and what about the rest of us?
what's our religion?
the majority of students at my high school don't openly practice anything that doesn't involve dance steps or cheat codes.
this group of students is were I fall.
i am, according to my mormon friend, lost in myself. I know no god and their for i know not what my soul is.
for the love of all that's good and holy, what does that mean?
i know no God, maybe, but knowing god and believing in a small corner of your heart is different. so what that i don't openly practice a "god" religion.
i practice a different religion. the religion of my generation.
in this religion the temple is the hallways, it is the skate park, it is the movie theater late at night.
the bible of this religion is The Outsiders, accompanied by the LOTR trilogy and of course The Catcher In The Rye.
Absolution of sin occurs in the back seat of a car, and on your couch after a bad break up.
The message is spread through MTV, music, movies, the internet, blogs, and youtube.
Our wine is the Coke Slurpee and our bread is the poptart.
we are the igeneration.
We have tuned in, but we don't drop out. We raise our voices to a cause.
Africa. Asia. South America.
No, we don't send mission trips to build houses. We send computers, and we build friendships. We send soccer balls and basketballs and we build unity.
this religion has no god. it is a religion that simply exist because an entire generation needs it to.
i am part of it.
