Madrid, Spain
Breakfast: Buffet in the hotel. Lots of different pastries and meats. I ate mostly pastries and some pineapple juice. Good stuff.
Short bus tour around the city. Saw the Plaza de Toros, where the bull fights happen. There weren't any bull fights going on today, but a guy selling fans complimented me on my Little Shop of Horrors t-shirt. biggrin
Next, the Prado. Amazing place. Lots of beautiful classical paintings, but I lked the sculptures best. blaugh Saw an exhibit of art by this guy named Goya. I personally have never heard of this man, but apparently he's very famous for his paintings of the French Revolution. I bought a souvenir: a little sketchpad.
After that, we ate lunch in the Rivera Park. I absolutely LOVED that place. It had gardens and fountains and fancy sculpted bushes and trees and statues. There was even a lake there and you could take boat rides if you wanted. I didn't take a boat ride, but I took lots of pictures.
Lunch: -Sprite
-Traditional Spanish Sandwich with a potato omelet*
*Muy delicioso! 4laugh
Went to the Reina Sofia art museum next. They have the "Guernica" there by Picasso. I've seen it on posters and in books and I wasn't reallly all that excited to see it at first. I thought, "Oh I'm just going to see Guernica." But then we saw it and we were so close to it and then I was like, "Holy crap! It's Guernica!" It's hard to really appreciate something like that painting unless you see it up close and for real. It was really cool. I was mesmerized by it. I could have stared at it all day. And I'm not even that huge a fan of Pablo Picasso! They had other things there too, including a whole bunch of stuff by Salvador Dali including one piece of his work titled, (I'm not making this up!) "The Grand Masturbator." eek
After that, me and a few other girls used our free time to briefly visit an anthropological museum. Then we went SHOPPING!!!(omg) xd heart blaugh There were so many cool stores. We went into El Corte Ingles, which is like a store that has a little bit of everything inside. I bought some mini pencils and stickers.
Then various little shops along the streets. I bought a hoodie, a pair of sunglasses, and a pair of shoes.
I was exhausted by dinnertime. We ate at this place called Arcabador. Nice, bit very smokey (Oh yeah, just about every other person on the street here smokes). *cough*
Dinner: -nasty soup that tasted like sour cream and onion potato chips xp (fed it to Mike)
-Beef slices and french fries 4laugh
-Chocolate mousse 4laugh
After dinner, SeƱor took some of us to get a traditional Spanish after-dinner snack: Churros dipped in hot fudge: YUMMM!!! heart blaugh heart blaugh
