perfect like nothing ever existed
dear annabell
For weeks they trugged through the snow. Many men he didn't know .how many were left behind ,dead.Soon no one was with him.He was hungry and tired. He was dying.Though mentally he was already dead. This war had killed him inside and out.Slowly he sat down and pulled out a peice of paper. He would write a letter to the only child he had ever had.The last letter he would ever write. For this was his last request. He would not die without these last words,so he wrote:

Dear Annabelle,

This is your father.I'm sorry I couldn't watch you grow up.In fact I'm sorry about this entire war. I feel responsible somehow. This is my last letter and all I can think about is you.Oh how I feel like a failure. The only thing I can teach you is about war itself. You are my child ,my angel. I wish you to be brave but don't travel into war. That can ruin your life or kill you like its done to me.I've seen the evils of war.Not only can it kill you on the outside but on the inside as well. I hope I have played my part in stopping the war.But it hasn't helped me at all.Now I will never see your shinning white smile ever again.Seeing all of my comrades and friends dying has hurt me but this is killing me. Blood is a horrible word. But it exisists and there is nothing I can do about that. You are a gift though now I have burrdened you with my expectations. But know you can never let me down.I am a father of a rose.Though I don't know why I say these pretty words. All I know is that I mean every word wether you read this or not.War has nothing to do with bravery. It has everything to do with death.Just know I will always love you.You are a star and I will see you again.Years from now and your grandchildren are at your bedside you will leave them and I will be waiting at the gates of heaven. And we will fly together. I will wait there until then.

Love Daddy,

He lay back and smiled up at the sky.He heard horns in the distance wounderful beautiful victory horns. But that was not why he was smiling.Still he himself did not understand why he was smiling. The horns were his.He had won the war.But it was to late for him.The sky was bright and the clouds were high but that did not change the dark days before. For a moment he felt the snow melt away and roses, daisy's, bluebelles, and buttercups rise around him.
A man with wings was there then gone and so was he.The gates were open and many people wished this stranger would join them inside. But he always said,"I'm waiting for someone".His daughter never got his letter saddly but she did proceed in her fathers wishes. Then many years after his death a young woman met him at the gates of heaven.
"Why do you not go in?",she asked. He bowed his head and said,"I'm waiting for my daughter". The young woman led him to a hole in the clouds. He saw an old lady in her death bed grand children all around her."That is my daughter",he exclaimed."No",said the young woman."That is me".The man and the young woman passed through the gates of heaven were they found hundreds of their friends waiting.

Famous Quote: The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it.- W. M. Lewis
