Ok so day 10 is done. I only have 9 more until I see him. Today was a pretty good...Whyred woke me up at about ten with a text message. "good morning handsome, sleep well?" I promptly got all mushy. I spent forever texting him... And then watched Boston legal, Denny Crane!
Yeah I then sat around downstairs. Worked on an essay... wanna read it?
MONKEYS VERSUS ROBOTS
The jungle. A desolate place. Aggressive. Unforgiving. And all around inhospitable to mankind. Unbeknownst to most, however, is the battle that is raging. Screeches heard from the trees. Mechanical whirs and zoks from the ground. Rocks thrown. Lasers shot. Sticks clashing with chainsaws. Explosions, and mechanical shrapnel everywhere. This is a dangerous world, this jungle. And this is the only place where the never ending war between monkeys and robots can be held. Yes, you heard correct. Monkeys vs. Robots. This is a real problem. A real problem in the sense that we don’t know why they’re fighting, Or when it will end. Monkey shattering robot. Robot breaking monkey. It is a terrible and gruesome affair that no mother or maker would wish upon their children or…what ever you call new born robots. But it has to be done. This is a war that is currently going unsung. The sheer lack of information I have been able to find is proof. I just have a few novels a couple of web sites and a song to go off of. This just shows how grossly neglected this topic has gone. If there is a monkey fighting a robot we should know more about it, shouldn’t we? I will be using this paper to open you eyes to this outrageous conflict. Why it’s occuring. The terrible misunderstanding. The match up. Who should win. And maybe, just maybe go into how this conflict is nothing more then an allegory for human nature thought up by a bored alternative comic book writer. Now at this point I imagine you’re probably asking yourself, “why should I even care about this?” or more importantly, “How in the world is this a problem?”. Well, you should be worried about this. And this is a problem. You should be worried because There’s a monkey some where out in the world currently locked in a conflict with a robot. One of these two will die. The other will go on and continue to fight. And maybe even win the next one. But he to will die. Not worrying about something as big as this is like not worrying about world hunger just because it doesn’t affect you directly. Animals and machines are dying! The jungles will never again be the same. Mayhem and carnage run rampant! The robots, just to flush out the monkeys, are destroying entire tracts of jungle. Factories are being destroyed from the inside halting progress, just so that monkeys can gain a slight advantage. I believe this entire conflict is summed up rather well in a song entitled “Monkey Vs. Robot” by James Kochalka Monkey play in the jungle, Robot work in the factory, They will have a giant rumble, Monkey Versus Robot! Monkey Versus Robot!
Monkey hate technology, Robot hate the monkey, They will fight eternally, Monkey Versus Robot! Monkey Versus Robot!
Monkey mate in the jungle, Robot replicate in factory, They both love their mother, Why must they hate each other,
Why cant we all get along? Would that be oh so wrong? Why can’t we all love each other? Monkey and a robot brother.
Monkey Versus Robot! Monkey Versus Robot! Monkey Versus Robot! Monkey Versus Robot!
M-O-N-K-E-Y!, Monkey! R-O-B-O-T!, Robot! M-O-N-K-E-Y!, Monkey! R-O-B-O-T!, Robot! M-O-N-K-E-Y!, Monkey! R-O-B-O-T!, Robot! M-O-N-K-E-Y!, Monkey! R-O-B-O-T!, Robot!
As you can see. It’s hard to say Why exactly they’re fighting. Which brings me to my next topic.
Why exactly are these two fighting? It’s hard to say. Alls there is to go off of is rumors really. Some say it was started when The robots were going through the jungle trying to put things into their knowledge extractor and put a monkey in it forcing all the monkeys secrets out. This of course is bogus. Seeing as there’s no such thing as a knowledge extractor. Unless you count a lie detector, but it’s rather hard to put a monkey through one of those. Others say there was no start. And that they’ve always been fighting. Since time began even. The truth of the matter is rather sad. The conflict started so many years ago that the “shot heard ‘round the world” has been all but forgotten. Fortunately for us, the Graphic Novel “Monkey Vs. Robot” by James Kochalka delves deep into this conflict and brings the start of this conflict to light. It’s all about Power Crystals. You see the robots need these to power themselves and their factories, and their supply is running rather low. Unfortunately these have a terrible side effect upon the enviroment. The monkeys know this. And with this knowledge the monkeys seek to stop the robots at all costs. At least that’s why the fight continues. In the beginning power crystals were plentiful, so why did they begin to fight? Could it of been the knowledge extractor theory? Or maybe they really have always been fighting. We just can’t know. Now here’s a big one. The misunderstanding. What does misunderstanding have to do with this? As the song so clearly showed, “they both love their mothers, why must they hate each other?”. It’s complicated, but it all comes down to a misunderstanding of each other’s respected races. The monkeys enjoy Playing in the jungle and making music. They are artistic and naturalists. Where as the robots spend their time working in their factories where the mantra “The future is now” is repeated over and over again. They are fundamentalists and industrialistic. The robots are set in their ways. They have to do their work. They have to refine those rocks. The monkeys just don’t understand this and it scares them because they see the effects it has on nature. The robots must do this to survive though. For without their power crystals, and the minerals from the rocks. They can’t replicate, nor power themselves. It’s often said that if we put our heads together we can overcome any trouble. Why can’t these two put their heads together and solve the robots energy problems with out destroying the environment? Instead they have to continue to destroy each other in catastrophic warfare. Speaking of warfare let’s see what each has going for him. Shall we? Monkeys being the naturalist in this conflict don’t have much in the way of weapons. They have rocks, Sticks, speed, and simian intelligence. Robots, being the industrialists they are, have a lot more going for them in this conflict. Lasers, chainsaws, obvious size advantages, and other advanced technologies “the future is now” after all. This would put the odds in favor of the robot, or so it would seem. This is the jungle they’re fighting in. Robots are out of their element. Monkeys on the other hand were born and bred here. Factor in the robots depleting power crystal reserves and the field is leveled. Both have been fighting for ever and so far neither has been able to gain much of an advantage. Think WWI trench warfare, that’s how fast this is progressing. As to who I believe should win. I can’t just out and say it. Not because I don’t want to, But because I am a neutral third party. That having been said I don’t think an end is near. And it’s still any one’s war. This fight has been going on for eons with neither gaining the advantage. So why would it end now? Now time for the part that actually makes sense. This entire conflict is nothing but a metaphor. “A metaphor for what?”, you ask? Why it’s nature vs technology of course. At least in the shallowest regards. You see the robots are technology and the monkeys are nature…you’re not buying it. Well that’s good. I’m glad you’re capable of higher thought. Really what I believe this conflict is a metaphor for is man vs. man. You heard me. The monkey represents the simplistic and near child like joys of being a pre technological society. They spend their time making music and having fun. Hunting and gathering food. The robots are the other extream. They are man kind in it’s super evolved technological phase. Emotion has been taken out of life in exchange for efficiency, progress, and power. We as a people are trying to find a happy balance in this. Hence the war. We wish to be technologically advanced and have all that power, i.e we want to be robots. Unfortunately we have troubles getting there. We love. We feel. We make merry and make babies. We are still monkeys at our core. No matter how hard we try to be the robot. No matter how hard we try to make the future now. We just aren’t there yet. We’re still monkeys. Now I don’t know if James Kochalka made the metaphor on purpose. My guess is that he did. This entire conflict was dreamed up by this alternative comic book writer/artist. He also writes music. But that’s besides the point. This conflict is not real. It’s just something dreamed up by one man. And it gained internet momentum. Not a lot mind you. It was really a hit with Alt comic fans. But that’s about it. But yes. The metaphor is there. And the thoughts are complex. And if you have some time to spare I’d suggest looking into this. If not, then At least get a good laugh outa the idea of a monkey smacking a robot with a stick while the robot shoots lasers.
yeah I was told I write with a shatner-esque flair.
