A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.
Little Hitler
I saw a rant on Customer's suck that reminded me of when I worked at Burger king, back at the dawn of history. We called this guy 'Little hitler" and had to explain him to new employees. he was a regular who came in several times a week. He looked like Artie Feldman and I used to have to restrain myself from saying "Veeeery Interestink" to him. (Artie Feldman had a jike nazi character on Laugh-In. the connection was obvious). Anyway, he always ordered a large coffee with 7 sugars and a stirrer. You could not touch his hands with yours at any part of the transaction. It was best if you didn't speak. We would see him coming and prep the order and slide it to him right after he paid. We did not want him in the store longer than we had to have him, so speed was in everyone's best interest. If he saw a black or Puerto rican worker in the front of the store where the drink station and registers were, he would freak. If he saw a brown or black person actually touching anything he was going to touch, he would through a huge screaming tantrum and demand a replacement coffee. Understandably, this did not go over well with the brown and black folk who were about 3/4 of the workers in the restaurant after dark. (often literally. There would be four of us and I was the only one he'd let serve him because I am pasty). There were several occasions when he'd launch into one of his things were my coworkers would have to restrain one of us who heartily wanted to vault the counter and pound the little arian pimple to a pulp. (It's not worth it man! You'll do time!" wink It struck us as extra crazy because we knew full well that pretty much everything in the store had been touched by someone non-white at some point. Likely his money had too, certainly the change we gave him back had. His white supremacy seemed not only distasteful, but also vaguely ludicrous given his obvious physical deficiency, especially compared to some of the people he was throwing his tantrum about. He was dead lucky we didn't let anyone jump the counter to pound him, because there was no doubt he'd be paste. I grew up in the North, that kind of crazy was the stuff of civil rights documentaries to us. Sure there was racism, but that kind of overt unashamed stuff already seemed like dinosaur time to us. There are so many things I look forward to being dinosaur time.
