The truth is not always so simple, you see
When you ask me questions about me
You ask why I sit so quietly
And why my hands are clasped so tightly
Why I act so uncomfortable when I talk
And why I always look at the floor while I walk
And when you ask me if everything is okay
Why do I smile so sadly, in that way
The way that makes it so easy for you to see
That I am lying when I tell you "It's all as it should be"
You ask why I always look like I want to cry
And why I never want you to ask me why
Why I pull my knees up to my chest
And use them as a place for my head to rest
As I hug myself into a ball
And look as if I'm scared of it all
Scared to look at the world and see
Because I'm scared of what might become of you and me
Scared of losing it all
And scared that no one will catch me when I fall
I know that when you look at me
A scared little girl is what you see
I don't know why you care
When to yourself, you are not being fair
I am a total and complete mess
But all you care about is my happiness
If I were to cry all day
You wouldn't get mad and go away
Instead you would hold me close and pray
That soon I would be okay
And then you would whisper in my ear
That I had nothing to fear
That you would always be here
Even when no one else was near
You'll always be close by when I cry
Even if I don't explain to you why
You will always take my hand
Even if you don't completely understand
Even if I don't say a word
To you, my voice will be heard
If I get lost
You'll come and find me, no matter what the cost
If I go astray
You'll be there to help me find my way
If I don't know what to say
You'll smile at me anyway
When you see me crying away
You do not relate me to a rainy day
Instead you give me the present
Of not thinking that I am unpleasant
To you I am not the rain, but the sun
Because for some strange reason, you think I am fun
You care about me more
Than I have ever been cared about before
You ask so many questions because you don't understand
But I'm just glad that you're still here, holding my hand
