FullMetal Alchemist Fanfic
"Are you sure this is it Al?" Edward Elric asked of his younger brother. About three years had passed since everything happened with the Homunculus things had been some what quiet. Edward had gotten much taller in recent years though he was still a bit....short.
"That's what the paper says," Alphonse answered. For three years Al had his body back and yet it hadn't seemed to age at all. Even at the age of 17 he still seemed to look at least 15. He didn't care though; he was just happy that he had it back. He knew his brother had gone through much trouble to get it back.
In the years that had passed Mustang had became Fuhrer which only seemed to inflate his ego even more. Then a year ago they had been invited to Mustang and Hawkeye's wedding. Ed couldn't believe that they had gotten married and often harrassed Mustang about it when they talked on the phone. Then a month ago Mustang had called them out of the blue and requested a meeting with them at Mustang's old family estate. Hearing the urgency and concern the Elric brothers hurried there as fast as they could. Now they stood before the gated entrance with their mouths hanging open.
The estate was very large with many of acres of land all around. From what Mustang had told him, it had been left to Mustang when his parents had died. But since he was in other pursits they place remained unused until now. The funny thing was that the place looked practically new. For something that hadn't been in use for a while it should have looked like a dump as far as Ed was concerned. "Geez...would you look at this place. It's huge!"
"Glad you approve of it," a voice snickered from behind. Both boys jumped and turned to see Mustang standing from behind them. His eye patch still covered his eye so only one was visible. "You arrived quicker then I excepted."
"Well when you called it sounded important," Ed said as he crossed his arms. "So what's so important that you had to drag us here anyways."
"All in good time Ed," Mustang with without a hint of his usual amusement. "For now let's get you settled in." Hours later the three sat in the living room with a roaring fire going. Servants were going to and fro serving them drinks and snacks.
Al was walking around the room looking at the different paintings when he came upon a large family picture. He saw Mustang as a boy and his parents but there was one other. A small girl that looked to be a year or two younger then Mustang. "This girl....who is she?"
Both Mustang and Edward looked over to where Al was standing. Mustang's eyes scanned the painting and Ed could see he stared at the young girls face. "She's my younger sister."
Ed looked over at Mustang as did Al and he said, "I didn't know you had a younger sister."
"That's because she died....many years ago....or so I thought," Mustang answered. Both Ed and Al stared at Mustang as he raised a small silver bell. He rang it twice and then set it down. "This gentlemen is the reason I called you."
A side door opened and two girls stepped out. One was the new misses Mustang and the other....was a young girl. Both Edward and Alphonse looked at the girl in disbelief. She had to have been around Al's age though if this was who they thought was then she should have been much older. The girl seemed a bit uneasy as she stood beside Riza. Finally Ed looked over at Mustang and asked, "You brought her back?"
Mustang shook his head as he leaned back into his chair. "No." He motioned the girl forward and she went to his side. "It appears that shortly after I left for the military my father did his own experiments. He was to say a lousy Alchemist but this was...surpaising. See, shortly after I left my sister's health started to decline." Mustang leaned forward and knitted his fingers together. "Desprate to heal her my father turned to Alchemy." He looked to his "sister" and nodded his head.
The girl bit her lip before nodding back and stepping from his side. She walked towards the fire and stood facing them. She seemed nervous and was it....scared? After taking a deep breath she closed her eyes. Nothing happened at first but then her body started to change. Large light blue wings grew from her back as her body took on a more bird like appreance. When it was done there was a large bird like creature standing before them with very long black hair that fell to the feathery tip of her tail. "A Chimera?" Ed asked slightly horrified. It brought back some very nasty and disturbing memories.
"Not just any Chimera," Mustang began. "Unlike most she ages slower as you can see for yorself. It cured her illness but at a great cost."
Al turned to the girl/bird and took a step towards her. That made the girl take a step back from him. "Please.....don't come near me."
Stunned Al stopped and simply tilted his head to the side. "It's ok Illanya. Their friends," Mustang said.
"Illanya?" Al asked as he looked back over to the girl. He smiled sweetly as he held out his hand to her. "I'm Alphonse but you can call me Al."
The girl paused for a moment as she studied the boy. Then she transformed back to her Human body. She looked over to her brother who nodded. Then she extended her own hand. "I....I'm Illanya. Bu....but you can call me Illy."
"Nice to meet you Illy," Al said with a large smile.
"Illy, why don't you and I show Ed and Al around?" Riza suggested with a small smile.
"Ok," Illanya said quietly. Though she was greatly startled when Al grabbed her hand. But after a moment she relaxed and walked forward with his hand in hers. It felt strange to her though. His hand felt warm to her and he was kinda cute.
When the four had left Roy walked over to the window and looked out. Al had taken a liking to his sister easily enough but he had seen the look Ed had given her. He would have many questions to ask later. But Roy knew as much as Illanya had told him. The jounral their father had written had been burned. Illanya didn't want anyone to go through the process she had. Her greatest wish was for him to burn her. But...he just couldn't do it. It had been such a shock to see that their mother had lied. But then again when she became a Chimera it seemed their mother had lost any love she had held for her daugther.
The next Day Roy woke to find that only Riza was in the kitchen. At Roy's questioning stare she smiply smiled. "Their out in the garden. You should have seen her Roy. She's taken quite a liking to Al. You were right to suggest them coming here."
"I hope so Riza, I really do."
Out in the garden Illanya and Al were chatting about nothing in particular. But Ed was silent as he watched the two. He wanted to know why Roy had brought them here. What was it that he was excepting them to do? At least he was silent until something caught his eye. Illanya had arranged muliticolored flowers in a stack. Then she slide her gloves off her hands and placed her hands over the flowers. She pressed downwards and there was a bright glow. When she withdrew them a prefect crown of flowers laid before her. It had stunnded Al too but he also recovered first. "You can do alchemy without a transmutation circle?"
In response Illanya held up her hands and both boys gasped. Burned into her skin were the circles. Then she took the crown of flowers and laid them on her head. "My father did it after he fused me with our parrot. Every third month I must find and take the soul of a bird in order to slow the process of aging."
"And if you don't?" Ed asked quietly.
"Then the aging progresses to the point where I'd be dead within a matter of seconds." She sighed as she leaned agaisnt the tree trunk. "Though sometimes I think that would be better."
"You mean you would rather be dead?" Al asked knowing all to well how that felt.
"It's better then being what I am," Illanay anwsered quietly.
"You should be thankful to even be alive," Edward said. He looked at Al; who nodded and said, "Listen."
After about an hour or two Illanya looked at Al and said, "I'm sorry....I...didn't."
Alphonse only shook his head and smiled. "It's ok, you didn't know."
To Edward he felt that he finally got why Mustang had wanted them there. Once more they had to do his dirty work. Strangely though he didn't mind. Al seemed to be very interested in Illy.
Three weeks had passed since Ed and Al had come to Mustang's home. In that time Ed and Al had come to think of Illanya as family. Though Ed wondered if Al thought of her as more then that. The two of them were hardly away from one another. Though she never excluded him, Ed was kinda jealous that she had Al's attention. But he also knew that Al was at the young were having a girlfriend might be appealing. It made him smile to think of his younger brother dating. Episcally since Al could be a very shy person at first.
Himself and Winry had gotten closer even though they still argued most of the time. Prehaps having another girl around might do both Al and Winry some good. And so it was on the second to last day before they left that he sought Mustang out. He found Mustang and Riza sitting in the living room. "I need to talk to you two."
"About what?" Mustang asked as he looked to Ed as he sat. Riza lowered the book she had been reading on guns.
"It's about Illanya," Edward said getting to the point. "If it's ok with her then I was wondering if you cared if she came with us. I know my brother likes her and she likes my brother." He placed his hands together. "I know why you wanted us here. And I think it would help if she left this place. It's nice but to her it seems like a prison."
Roy was silent for a moment as he looked over at Riza. She smiled and nodded while saying, "We couldn't agree with you more Ed. Roy has been trying to get her to leave and see the world without success."
"The only thing she wanted was to die," Roy added quietly. He stood and walked over to the window and folded his hands behind his back. "You boys have changed her and for that I'm thankful. I only ask that you keep her safe. Next month will mark the third month in which she'll need to transmutate another bird's soul."
Ed nodded as he smiled and said, "We can deal with that when the time comes." He gave Mustang a thumbs up. "She'll be in good hands."
Mustang nodded as he let a small smile show. "Then if she wants she may go."
When Mustang, Edward and Riza found Al and Illy they were slightly stunned. They peeked around the corner to find Al KISSING Illy. They wanted until the two broke apart then walked forward. Ed couldn't believe his younger brother had actually kissed a girl. The two were sitting under the side of a tree. When Mustang explained what was going on their eyes lit up. "YES! If Ed and Al don't care. I wish to go."
"It's fine by me," Ed said with a thumbs up.
"I'd love it if you came with us," Al said with a slight blush. After all neither he nor Illanya had known the others had seen them kiss. "And I know Winry would be fine with it."
"Then it's settled," Mustang said with a large smile.
"I'll go and...." Illanya cocked her head to the side. In that instant Roy knew something wasn't right. He pushed Riza to the ground and threw himself on top just as the house behind them expolded.
When the dust cleared Roy checked Riza over while Ed tended to his brother. "Where....where's Illy?" Al asked as he stood.
Mustang picked up a light blue feather as he said, "Dammit." He turned to the others and showed them the feather. "Looks like she took off after who did this."
"Al! Let's go!" Ed said as he charged forward. "She might need backup!"
Al nodded as he charged after his brother not needing to be told twice. "HEY! WAIT DAMMIT!" Roy growled. He turned to look at Riza when he heard the c**k of a gun. "Where did you have that?"
"Tell you later," Riza said with a smile. "Right now we need to find the ones who blew up our home." When Roy nodded they took off after Ed and Al.
Illanya flew after the wannabe killer in her Chimera form. High above she searched for whoever did it. She could smell the flammble liquid. She wanted whoever had destoryed her home. She managed to spot someone running through the streets. With a hissing shreech she dove down and grabbed the man by the shoulders. Screaming he grabbed hold and shouted, "LEMME GO!"
"Why did you attack the Furher's home?" Illanya demanded to know. When he didn't answer she dug her claws in a bit deeper. But upon hearing a yell she looked down to see the others. She dropped the man and watched as Ed quickly grabbed him then she landed.
The man coward before Mustang as he asked, "Are you the one who blew up my home?"
"Ye....yes sir," the man said. "I...I was paid to...to do it."
"By who?" Illanya hissed through her beak.
Mustang looked over at his sister and she fell silent. The man looked over at her too and said, "Ple....please don't let it eat me."
"IT?!?!" Illanya freaked. She snapped her beak inchs from the man's face. She felt someone lay their hand on her clawed hand. She looked over at Al and remebered what he had gone through. He had lived in a suit of armor so she was sure he knew how she felt. She wondered if that was why she liked him so much.
"Prehaps if you tell me who sent you then I won't have her eat you," Roy threatened. He didn't like ANYONE ******** with his family.
"I don't know who it was," the man squeaked.
"I'll deal with this, Riza. Take the others and head over to our other place....you know the one. I'll warn them that your on your way," Roy said. "Illy; transform back."
Al stepped away as Illanya nodded her bird like head. The man watched as the creature before him transformed into a seemingly normal 17 year old girl. She sighed as she crossed her arms. "You shouldn't stay alone Roy. Let me stay and the others go."
"You know that's not a bad idea," Ed said speaking up suddenly. "If someone's out to get you two then going to your other place won't work. Let us take Riza to a hotel and when you two get back we can leave."
"And go where?" Roy asked slightly annoyed.
"With us," Edward said simply. He looked at the man. "But I won't say where."
Illanya nodded and went back to her Chimera form. She looked at Roy and with a annoyed groan he said, "Fine." He looked at them then added, "Go."
It was then that the frightened man began to laugh. "I'm afaird none of you are going anywhere." It was then that is own body began to change. All except for Illanya backed away. She simply stood in front of her brother with her beak bared. Before them stood a VERY familiar face. "It's been awhile."
"ENVY!" Edward snarled. "HOW?!"
"Wouldn't you like to know." Then before anyone could move another expolsion went off. The only one who wasn't fooled was Illanya. the moment Envy ran off Illanya took off after him. Noticing he was being followed he grinned. This was what he had been hoping for.
"GET BACK HERE!" Illanya shreeched as she flew above him. She should have known it was a trap. But it was too late....the moment she followed Envy into an alleyway a net fell from above. "ARUGH!" She slammed into the ground and skidded for a few feet.
She let out a groan as she laid there on the ground caught up in the net. Envy walked over and stood over the fallen girl. He bent and pulled the net away from her head. Smiling he lifted it a bit and said, "Your mine now." He chuckled when she passed out and he laid her head back down gently. As six other figures appeared in the alley way he said, "Let's go before they get here."
One of them....a female with long black hair looked at Envy. "Why do we even need her?"
"Trust me; she'll become quite useful," Envy said with a laugh. "Besides; father asked for her." With that Illanya was gathered up and hauled off.
"Everyone alright?" Roy asked as he hauled Riza to her feet.
Yeah....wait! Where's Illy?" Edward asked as he looked around.
"Dammit....she must have gone after Envy," Roy said with a sigh.
"Then we need to find her. She has no idea what he is," Ed said. "Let's spilt up and meet back in a two hours."
Two hours later all four met ack up in a small hotel east of the city. By then Roy had talked with thoes in charge of watching his estate. Now they sat in the small common area. Al's head was bowed low over his drink as the others talked. The only thing that had been found of Illanya was a net, some feathers, and a bit of blood. Needless to say that spirits were very low. But no one felt it more then Al.
"I don't understand, why would Envy take her?" Riza asked aloud.
"To get to us," Roy said quietly. "He's going to either us her agaisnt us or worse."
"How can he be alive at all?" Edward asked frustrated. "He went through the gate...didn't he?"
"Does it really matter?" Alphonse asked as he picked up his head. "We need to figure out where he took her."
"That's not important either," Roy answered looking at Ed and Al. "We can not let her capture distract us."
"But how can you say that? She's your sister," Ed said.
"And it's for that reason that I can't go looking for her," Roy answered. "Since this was a hit agaisnt us then the military will want us with them. Riza and I have things to do."
"Then Ed and I will find them," Al said. "Reinstate Ed as a State Alchemist and let be become one. That way we'll have access to everything we need."
"It's not a bad idea," Edward said after a moment. "If Envy's alive the others will be too. So we should head home. If Wrath is gone then we know for sure the others are truely back."
"Very then, I'll have you reinstated Ed and Al I'll give you the authority of a State Alchemist." Roy placed a hand into his pocket and pulled out a silver wristwatch and handed it to Al. "I want you two to report to me every chance you get."
"Count on us," Edward said as he and Al stood.
Back at the new hide-out the Homunculi were circled around a large cage. Behind Envy and Lust was their "FATHER". "Excellent work."
Illanya picked up her head as she looked at the man with hate. Since being captured she had stayed in her Chimera form. She stood in the middle of the cage. She tilted her head as she listened to them. Finally she asked, "What do you want with me?"
"So she does speak," The man said with a laugh. "Prehaps if you transformed back we could talk face to face."
At that Envy walked forward and unlocked the door of the cage. He had been assigned to watch over her. A job that he oddly didn't mind since she was very pretty in her Human form. He walked into the cage and then held his hand out to her. He smiled as he did so. "It's alright."
She paused; for some reason she trusted Envy even though he had tried to kill her. She sighed and they all watched as the feathers melted. When she was done she stood before them in her Human form. Their "father" smiled as he said, "See, nothing shall happen to you. Envy has been assigned to watch out for you."
"Envy..........." Illanya said quietly. She looked at the green haired boy and suddenly lunged forward and slugged him. "THAT'S FOR TRYING TO KILL ME, MY FAMILY, AND FRIENDS!"
Everyone watched as Envy landed hard on his back and laid there. He looked up at her with a hand on his reddened cheek. Then he started laughing as he stood. "Nice punch."
After that everyone seemed to relax though she was still nervous. But once more Envy held out his hand to her. Knowing they wouldn't go away she took it and he led her out. She excepted them to chain her once outside but they didn't. Instead she kept holding Envy's hand while each Humunculus introduced themselves. She was curiuos about Gluttony. "So what do you want with me?"
"We need your help with something," Envy said kindly which was strange for him. He took her other hand as he said, "There is a cave that only I can fit through thanks to my shape shifting abilitly. But for the object we seek I need help getting it out."
"And we need someone who can fly," Sloth added.
"So why not just ask? Why attack my brother?" Illanya asked.
"Your brother doesn't excatly like us," Envy said sadly. Then he began to tell a twisted tale that left Illanya stunned.
"So after everything my brother and Al told was a lie?" She asked sadly. "And here I thought.....I thought Al liked me."
"It's hard we know," Wrath said. "But the only reason your brother would have asked for them to ome was to dispose of you. That's what they do. They get rid of anyone who's different."
"Get.....rid.....of," Illanya said with a sigh. She sat on the floor heavily and hung her head. "So it's true....my brother never did love me. My mother was the same way....after I became....this thing she didn't love me anymore."
Envy looked at Illanya with new eyes as he bent down. He hadn't known that....her mother had abondaned her? "It hurts.....I know how that feels." He looked over at his "father" and then back at her. "For now on your new name will be Jealous."
"Jealous?" Illanya asked. After a moment she smiled. "I like it."
