Underworld had proven itself a very creepy place at first. It was dank, dim, and smelled a little badly, but the city down here had been so civilized and organized, Adelise had quickly felt at home. Ironically it was an entire city made up of ghouls which were being most of the Wasteland had feared or talked badly about.
"Hey, smoothiskin."
"Hiya."
"How ya doin' smoothskin?"
"Fine. Thanks."
"Don't cause any trouble, smoothskin."
"I won't."
Ghouls had passed her by left and right, welcoming her and some warning her, not in a moody way, but in a friendly manner. It was good to see some civilized people. She'd only known of Megaton and the Brotherhood of Steel, or Megaton anyway.
As she made her way further into the area, she'd come across a bartender in some place called the "Ninth Circle". Seating herself she looked up at the ghoul.
"Excuse me, do you know if any older man's been through here? He looks like this," she started, showing him the photograph of her father and herself.
The ghoul grunted. "No, can't say that I have. I see lots of people come and go but he ain't one of him, kid."
Adelise frowned and lowered her head a little. "Oh..." she muttered, disappointed. Suddenly she looked back up at him.
"Well can you give me directions to the Our Lady of Hope Hospital then? I got this distress signal and--"
"Why the hell would you wanna go there for?" the ghoul asked, astounded.
Adelise smiled weakly. "Well Riley's Rangers. They sent out a distress signal saying they needed backup...they were bombarded by a fleet of Super Mutants and I can't just not help them..."
The ghoul scoffed. "I'd say it ain't your problem. Runnin' off to go get yourself killed for some stupid a** people you don't even know. That's just ridiculous."
Adelise had stood up abruptly, her intent glare hadn't really intimidated the man but it was mildly amusing. Smoothskins are such saps. All of 'em.
"It's not ridiculous when you know you can help save someone else's life. My father always taught me to never turn my back on anyone in need, no matter who or what they are," she informed him.
As she turned her back to leave, the man had caught a glimpse of the word and numbers on the back of her armor. She was that Vault 101 kid, there was a bounty on her head.
Suddenly he had an idea. "Hey, if you're going to go through all of that trouble, then why don't you take someone with you?" he suggested.
Adelise stopped in mid-step and looked back at him. "You suddenly care, why?" she asked suspiciously. Adelise was actually pretty oblivious to the bounty she held. It wasn't everyday you piss off enough people to recieve a bounty on you.
The ghoul chuckled. "Look, kid. I admire you. I just wanna help. Look, I've got this bodyguard here who I'd wanna send with you and-"
"I don't have any caps. Or atleast I don't have enough caps to pay for your bodguard."
"Don't worry kid. This one's on the house," he said in a sly manner. Adelise thought for a moment. "Well...alright."
The ghoul glanced over at someone who stood in the corner with his arms folded. He nodded at him, gesturing him to come over. Adelise waited by the door while she watched them exchange words. The taller ghoul had glanced back at her and then back at his boss.
After a few short minutes he'd approached the young woman. "Ahzrukal says I'm suppose to help you rescue a group of people at the hospital deeper in the ruins. I'll be your escort," he grumbled, pushing the doors open and walking out into the hall. Adelise nodded and followed.
"Nice to meet you too."
As she followed behind him, she took notice that he was leadng her in the pposite direction of the entrance. Someplace called "The Chop Shop".
"Hey, where are we going?" she asked.
"Riley's in here. I was there when they brought her in. She was in pretty bad shape. I'm assuming she's Riley of "Riley's Rangers".
Adelise nodded. "Ahhh, okay. So, what's your name anyways?" she wondered. "Charon." he muttered. Adelise smiled. "Oh you're Charon."
"Eh?"
"I met a woman on my way here. She gave me the directions to get here and she also asked me to tell you that she was alright and that she'd be seeing you around. I think her name was Willow."
Charon smiled sorta..kinda, well it looked kinda like it'd be a smile. It was hard to tell. "Well I'll be damned..."
Adelise nodded again. "By the way, I'm Adelise. Thanks for helping me, I know you prolly had better things to do, but I appreciate all the help I can get."
He only grunted and pushed the Clinic doors open.
(And this is where it ends until we decide to write something.)
