"He will never change. Despite all the hope inside of you, Grace, that man will never be sane, he'll never see everything he is and will miss out on. You can't change him, Ark can't change him, no one can change him. If you really love that spineless b*****d, you'd leave him alone, take your children and go home."

Grace stared blankly at the redhead before her. The shocking truth had come down like a ton of bricks on her. It had suddenly felt like all the weight on her shoulders had multiplied by four, sending her slouching against a wall and staring down at the floor, emotionless momentarily.

It really wasn't shocking, seeing as how she had always known she'd never see the day her friend would see the light. He was always going to be the same, broken, emotionless person who was stumbling blindy down an unrecognizable path.

Her ears had suddenly drooped before she slid down the wall and sunk onto the floor, hands in her lap while tears built up in her eyes. Had she really been wasting more than a decade on something pointless?

The redhead had sighed inwardly, staring down at the dark haired woman. "Right now, your children need a mother and a father. A real father, someone who can actually feel and protect them," she began.

Grace had for the first time in her life felt indecisive. Despite her unrequited feelings for Ion, he was still her friend. Her one and only friend who she loved dearly. He was the first person to treat her like a human being not like something fragile and meek.

Despite it all, despite everything he'd done to try and get a step closer to his goal, she believed he was still a person. He was still making mistakes any human would make. Others would see him and speak ill about him, they'd see him as a monster, but they didn't know him. Not the way she did.

Of course it wasn't like she was positive what was going on in his head, but she's spent enough time with him to know he still felt something. She always believed in him. Believed that he'd do great things, that he'd soon realize he didn't need to kill or hurt to achieve his goal.

Then there was Angela and Ark. They needed her. Those children deserved so much more than what they've been given by default. What kind of mother would she be if she hadn't given them any kind of second thought.

Grace stared down into her hands. She clenched them tight in her lap as she tried to decide what was the most important. She didn't want to abandon Ion but she couldn't neglect her children...they needed a stable life. They needed their mommy and a father.

"I-I need to take care of my children..." she stammered.

The woman before her frowned and knelt down, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I know it's hard for you to do this, but, you've made the right decision..."
