Chapter 1
“Tch. Damn It,” Alaric cursed under his breath.
“What’s wrong?” Adalwulf asked wondering if something bad had happened.
“Nothing Wulf, just go back to work,” Alaric answered.
“Stop calling me Wulf. I feel like a pet.” Adalwulf whined.
“Okay. WULF.” Alaric teased. He chuckled lightly and continued with his work. Adalwulf and Alaric were in their new apartment fussing over the T.V. cables. They had gotten so bored and they wanted something to do in their spare time so they had gotten a TV set and had gotten DISH TV. Now, all they had to do was set it up which was proving to be a challenge for them.
“Hey Alaric, are you sure you connect the yellow cable there, the manual says to connect it to the red. We should have just asked them to stay and set it up. I think we can still call them.”
“Wulf, don’t question my awesomeness. I know what I’m doing, I’ve been alive for 500 years,” answered Alaric plugging the yellow cable in.
“Whatever, if this thing explodes, we’ll always be able to buy another one old man.”
“Exactly,” said Alaric as he punched Adalwulf in the stomach for calling him old. He turned on the TV only to hear a loud buzzing noise. The screen was just a fuzzy black and grey color and they were puzzled as to what had happened. A couple seconds later, it short-circuited and the TV emitted smoke.
“Damn,” they said in unison as they tried to blow the fumes away from themselves and the smoke alarms not wanting to bring the landlady into this. Alaric opened the windows and fanned the fumes out. While doing that his long hair got messed up in the wind and he swiftly moved it behind his ear. Looking at Adalwulf he thought, why does that guy have such short hair yet he can still look handsome. I want hair like him, oh well, long hair suits me more. He turned around and saw Adalwulf looking at a mirror.
Admiring himself in the mirror, Adalwulf exclaimed, “Hey there you handsome werewolf!”
“Hey, don’t call yourself a werewolf aloud here, the walls are thin the neighbors might hear you and we might have a replay of what happened in Germany,” scolded Alaric.
“Fine, but what are we going to do about the TV?” Adalwulf asked while combing his straight black hair. He looked in the mirror and saw a tall, lean 16-year old staring back. His facial features were, like many in his clan, handsome and manly. But unlike most in his clan, his eyes were beautiful and cool silver which gave him the name, “Silver Exile.” His hair was straight and soft unlike the rough, curly hair of his relatives and he took much pride in his differences. You are a handsome werewolf. So much more sensitive and cool looking than the rest of the clan, he thought.
“I’m not really sure but we can always call someone to fix but I’m too tired to right now,” Alaric griped. He walked to the counter near the mirror in which Adalwulf was admiring himself in and thought about his family who were long gone by now. The good old days he thought. The “good old days” was 500 years ago before he was turned into a blood-sucking monster called a vampire. Thankfully being turned into a monster means his appearance greatly improved. His deep blue eyes had become an even more beautiful shade of blue. He always had a girly look and a beautiful face when he was younger and now he looked even better. Because of his blond, soft, shoulder length hair and feminine features, he was thought of as Adalwulf’s girlfriend a lot and explaining that to random strangers was annoying so he just went with it. He looked at his body right now and was pleased about how muscular yet skinny he was. That’s the popular thing nowadays isn’t it? Skinny yet muscular guys, He thought and saw that Adalwulf also fit the bill.
Suddenly, there was a soft knock on the door and Adalwulf and Alaric immediately turned and looked at each other. They each knew what the other one was thinking, who is it? Alaric nodded his head at Adalwulf signaling him to open the door.
When he opened the door he saw the landlady and he said, “Hello ma’am, what brings you here. We already paid the rent for this month.”
The landlady, who was a stout old lady, blushed and said, “Umm, I was just wondering if everything was okay. Some of the neighbors saw smoke and I was just wondering if you two were okay.”
She doesn’t even know our names and she’s already fallen for Wulf I wonder if she thinks I’m his girlfriend thought Alaric as he chuckled lightly.
“Nothing’s wrong ma’am, we just had an issue while we were cooking. Thanks for your concern,” Adalwulf smoothly answered.
“Okay,” the landlady, she looked around and spotted Alaric and continued, “I hope you and your girlfriend finish moving in quickly.”
“Oh no—,” Adalwulf started but was chiefly interrupted by Alaric.
“Thank you ma’am, have a great day,” he said smoothly.
“Okay you two,” she said and muttered, “Young people these days, living together at such an early age.”
When she left, the two guys burst out laughing.
“OH MY GOD WULF, DID YOU SEE HER FACE WHEN SHE WALKED IN? SHE FELL FOR YOU SO HARD, ALREADY!” Alaric exclaimed holding onto the counter for support because he was laughing so hard.
“Hey, it’s worse for you old man, she thinks you’re my girlfriend,” Adalwulf said whining. He walked into his room and glances at the calendar hanging on his door.
Looking at the calendar he exclaimed, “SHOOT, there’s a full moon tonight, we’ll have to go hunting tonight again.” Since Adalwulf was a werewolf, he had to transform once a month and if he didn’t it would be unhealthy.
“Wait, seriously?!” Alaric exclaimed and he quickly walked into his room and checked his calendar and saw that tonight really was the full moon. If he didn’t go hunting at least once a month, he’d get too hungry and attack a random stranger which would end badly.
The two usually went hunting on nights with a full moon together to make it easier and they only hunted animals. Unlike most vampires, Alaric couldn’t take the new “artificial blood” that had been created by The Society and was considered an outcast who had to hunt to live. The Society was an organization that was created by cowardly humans to control the, “evil beasts,” known as vampires, demons, dragons, werewolves, puppet masters, and etc.
Alaric and Adalwulf started packing their backpacks with necessities to bring on the hunting trip. It was hard finding the things because they both were bad at organization so their hunting things were scattered in many different boxes. After an hour, the found everything and Alaric looked at the clock.
“Good, we still have an hour before you transform Wulf. Let’s go,” Alaric stated. They left the messy apartment and ran out the building locking their apartment behind them. They stopped at the valet office and Adalwulf grabbed their key because it was his turn to drive.
As they stepped out onto the black asphalt, they found their Black BMW in the parking lot where the valets had pointed it out and hopped in.
Alaric looked around and said, “America is so much cleaner than Germany. I like it here better, I’m pretty glad we moved.”
“We had no choice, we were exiled and all those things happened,” Adalwulf said sticking the key into the car and starting the engine.
“I know, but I even with the circumstances, New York is breathtakingly beautiful,” Alaric said admiring the majestic skyscrapers from inside their car.
“Okay, we’re set. LET’S GO!” Adalwulf shouted with enthusiasm. He floored the accelerator pedal and sped out the parking lot at 45 MPH and Alaric hung onto his seat laughing happily. They were both thinking, this guy next to me is crazy but maybe that’s why we’re friends. The black BMW sped onto the highway and towards the secluded forest in the horizon.
