Violent Gust; Gentle Breeze
Ventus stares on, covered in scrapes from near misses and weakened from poison and fatigue. He isn't doing so well, and the items he had, left over from his last fight over a decade ago, were so old they were rather ineffective against his ailments. They did, however, keep him alive. He's helpless; part of him wants to help the woman, even if she'd just pointed a gun at his head in an attempt to shoot him before... before...
It's too much for him to watch, but in pure horror the Keyblade bearer cannot pull his gaze away as the Darkness oozes from the woman's-Niveus'-mouth. He doesn't see Kairi, doesn't see Vanitas, just the darkness overtaking the woman who just tried so ferverously to end his life. He has no idea if she notices it at all as the magic she'd cast on herself wore off, but the look in her eyes... It sends a chill down his spine at the memories; all the fear he'd had of becoming like that, the order to surrender to the darkness that he couldn't follow through, being ripped apart by Neoshadows only to have the dark half of his heart ripped out of his chest by the one person he trusted... The memories send shivers down his spine.
When Niveus looks to Kairi, he can feel his skin go white in fear. That inhuman laugh; it's full of the greed his dark counterpart can certainly sense. The look was a mirror image of the one someone had given him that night under the pale light of Kingdom Hearts. It's all he can do to stay there, just in case they decide to attack Kairi while he's weakened. Speaking of, Ven sneaks a glance at the boy, and his 'breath' is caught in his throat. Of course Vanitas is enjoying this... The fear, pain, greed, and darkness are all like lullabies to the twisted b*****d. Ven would never understand it, and the eyes he feels on him again makes his gaze meet Niveus' once more.
She refuses to....what-?
That laugh...that damnable grin...would haunt the knight of the wind for the rest of his life. Ven's jaw drops in horror as Niveus raises the gun to her own head. No... Don't do it... Don't take your own-
'Put an end to me.'
A gunshot, Kairi's screams, and Vanitas' laughter fill the blond's ears, but all he really hears is the blood pounding in his head. All the memories rushed to him at once. The threats of being killed, wanting to die, to not be used for Xehanort's plans of the ultimate power... He shakes, enraged. 'You... idiot...' he screams inside his head. This feeling... the hatred and self-loathing seem so foreign to him, and yet... there they are. Shock, pain, grief... all fueled the hatred for what the other boy has done, both recently and before they'd "fallen asleep." The emotions don't quiet as he kicks forward, hand clasping around the throat of the body the dark being had taken over. "Why..... Why of all the familiar faces I could have seen...." Those eyes... Those hideous, golden-yellow eyes... "WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE YOURS?!"
Vanitas grins up at him, a hand shooting up to Ven's in an attempt to pull away. "Is that... any way to treat--?" He pauses, chuckling at the hatred burning deep in those normally vibrant blue eyes. "...Then again, you always were a weak, brainless fool."
Ven's grip tightens, outraged. "Vanitas, if you don't shut up I swear I'll-"
"Kill...me?" Vanitas laughs even harder, albiet choked, "Isn't that--?"
"You rotten-!"
'Help....me....'
Ventus blinks, then levels his gaze once more deep into the unnatural gold eyes. That voice... creepily like Vanitas', and yet... the innocence it held was just like that heart he'd met- ... Oh Kingdom Hearts, no. "You... What have you done to Sora's heart?!"
Vanitas sneers at the blond, putting more pressure on the wrists holding him by the neck. "I merely offered my... assistance in protecting the other idiot's precious friends. But..." He laughs, smacking Ventus on the back of the head with an Unversed. As the boy's vision starts going out, Vanitas' sneer broadens. "-like your best friend, it seems he was unable to contain the darkness he so willingly accepted in."
"You...liar-" Ven's grasp on reality and what Vanitas hisses in his ear vanish as he too is swallowed by the darkness in the water. He doesn't know when it happened, but in here, his legs are back and he's falling... falling into nothing but darkness. He forces his eyes open, and he sees shards of broken glass floating around him; it reminds him of something he can't quite remember. Ventus rights himself on a large piece of glass and looks around, frightened. No heart survives well when their Station is shattered into little pieces. Who this belonged to had to be suffering.
"Please..."
Ventus does a sharp turn, falling off his perch and floating in 'midair.' Light help them both... There was the heart, the soul of the currently possessed boy, chained down with his own and Vanitas' darkness oozing out of him. Ven feels a stab in his chest as he floats toward him, summoning the Wayward Wind. "You've had it rough, huh..." This boy... He seems so familiar. That's when it hits him again; he's been sleeping within this heart for so long. It was his fault for this happening.
Ventus bends down to look into Sora's scarred face, beaten and battered by the abuse he'd suffered from Vanitas. "I'm sorry... Let me help you."
"B-ut...how?"
He smiles sadly, jumping back as he pointed the Keyblade in his hands at the dark 'sky.' "What better way to fight the darkness with a little light?"
Sora winces, almost expecting to be hit across the face again; but instead a wave of calm fills him, the chains and darkness vanishing in the glow that Ventus' Holy spell caused. He stares up at him, almost afraid to ask. He tilts his head to the side, "Why're you-?"
"Because I couldn't stop him in time from doing this to you." Ven offers a hand, an irrevocable sadness filling his heart. "...Exactly what he tried doing to me years ago." He forces a smile as Sora stares at his hand, uncertain. "It's okay. Believe in the bonds between you and your friends, and the light they create'll never fade.
"Let me help you, Sora. Together we can help our friends and defeat Vanitas. Together, we can put an end to this."
Sora stares at the hand, then the boy once again. He looks so much like his Nobody that he's still coming to terms with that surprise, and yet... something makes him wanna trust him. "Let's do it," he grins, pushing back the pain as he takes Ven's hand in his own. He wasn't about to sit back any longer and watch his possessor destroy worlds and hurt his friends.
In a flash of light, Sora was gone and Ven was swimming in the ocean once more, choking his b*****d of a dark half. Without even thinking about it, he casts a Holy spell right in his face before getting pulled off him by Kairi.
"We need to get out of here before the sharks come!" Kairi whispers in his ear, trying to tug him along.
"But Sora's still-!"
I'm right here.
Ven places a hand to his chest, only just now realizing that his wounds have been healed. "...You're right, but-"
"I don't want to leave him either, but we have to get away now!"
Not like it matters now, since Vanitas has fled through a portal, cursing. Well, at least now Ven knew he wouldn't be able to use them again just yet...
As the two-no, three swim off to the surface, Ven gives Kairi a shaky grin . "Well, at least we found your friend."
