PREFACE:- - - - - - - - - - -
Rain pounded against the rough concrete, and a roar of thunder could be heard off in the distance. Most people stayed indoors during a storm. Alan wasn't "most people." He was standing in the middle of the road, his black sweatshirt and jeans soaked with water. His smooth black hair clung to his face, strands dripping with rain. No cars were driving on the street, and the only lights were flickers from the occasional street lamp and flash of lightning. He was starting to pray. It was something he always did on that road; He would stand in the exact middle and pray, not caring of the consequences. Almighty God, please, give me my purpose, he prayed, his fingers intertwined. I want to know my reason for living, at all. At least just give me a sign. Alan winced at a boom of thunder louder than ever, the sound coming from all around. "Amen," he finished. He slowly turned his head up to the sky just as a flash of white filled his vision and he fell to the ground, unconscious.
Suddenly he found himself blinking his brown eyes open, adjusting to the abrupt brightness. It was a plain white room, no way of judging how large or small it was. Alan, a voice said into his mind. "What was that?" he said, his own voice faltering slightly. "Wh-Who's there?" He looked all around but no one was to be seen. You asked for your purpose? the voice stated, but it sounded more like a question. Alan pressed his hands against his ears. "Get out of my head!" he growled. He could practically feel the man -- thing, whatever it was -- smirking at Alan's actions. Be careful what you wish for, Alan. A figure materialized into the room. The man had pale skin, blonde hair, and eyes the color of silver. He wore nothing but loose white pants and a white tunic. "What are you waiting for, Alan?" the man asked. His hand reached out, palm up. "Are you wanting to find your true purpose or not?" Alan tried to break into a run, but every time he looked over his shoulder, it was like he hadn't moved at all. Really, he did want to find his meaning, but he was also afraid to discover the truth. Finally, he did turn around and stop trying to run, but the man had disappeared before his eyes. He returned to his mind games. Alan, decide. You can find out your reason now, or be trapped here until you are actually up for it. He stayed quiet, and the voice vanished completely. He made his decision. There was no turning back now. He would most likely be trapped in this dimension forever.
He laid on the floor of the room and closed his eyes. If he was going to be stuck there a while, he may as well waste time sleeping. Alan stayed in that state for thirty years, never growing older or even realizing the passing time. The man in white never bothered to return to see if he changed his mind. It was through his dream that he discovered the only way to escape the limbo was with someone's help. There was no way he could get out on his own. And that is when he appeared in someone's dream. If only he could find a way to send a message to the dreamer, use her to bring him back into the real world.

BASIC OUTLINE::
Alan is your average boy of the late 1990s or early 2000s walking along an empty street during a storm when he gets struck by lightning. The flash gives him passage to this white room, the gateway between God and Earth. God is ready to answer Alan's prayer -- to find his purpose -- but Alan decides he isn't as ready for it as he thought. He becomes trapped in the dimension until he makes up his mind. By the time he actually has, God has shut him out. He never realizes it, but he has been trapped in the dimension for thirty years without growing older or even noticing the passing time. Eventually he finds a dreamer and sends his message -- "free me" -- to her and he escapes the limbo. But when he comes back to earth, he finds it has fallen to chaos. America is no longer as free as it once claimed to be. A monster, a devil, has risen with evil followers ready to cast peoples' souls to hell to become his followers if they deliberately choose to disobey him. Alan and Aislinn, the dreamer, plan a rebellion and build an army to take down the devil, and are falling in love with each other through it all. Will they be able to stop the devil before all the zoetics, like Alan and Aislinn, are gone for good?
Zoetic (noun) :: to truly be alive
The Lifeless (noun) :: empty shells of former beings, controlled by the Devil; the Devil's minions whose souls have been cast down to hell
