Chapter 4
Aleana was so amused by the tiniest things in the city. Never had she been in a city as big as this one. The bright, brick buildings just made her gasp in awe. The streetlights were silver with a wave design going up all the way to the bulb. The girl was distracted by the gigantic, beautiful houses that she didn't see a mail box in the way she was walking and soon enough, she ended up on her back. "Ugh...My head..." she moaned. She rested her arm on her forehead and lay there for a while. There was a sound of footsteps headed her way. Aleana removed her arm and stared at the sun. A man looked down at her blocking the sunlight from her eyes. "You shouldn't be laying there,” he said. "At this moment, I don't really care." she replied. "You should. Someone might kidnap you." "Like you?" The man started to laugh. "Now, why would I do that Aleana?" "Amory?" Amory took a hold of Aleana's arm and pulled her up to her feet. "Want to go for a walk?" "To where?" "The bar. Well, it's not really a bar. It's a place for teenagers to hang out at. A few adults go there too." The girl seemed to like the sound of this place. She nodded her head and grinned. "Sure." "Great! It's this way." The boy grasped her hand and led her to the bar. Aleana turned pink but forced herself not to blush. The two stepped into a brick building that had vines growing on the outside. To the left there was a wooden counter with a few stools along side it. There were tables and four to five chairs to each one. A couple of teenagers sat at them having conversations to keep them busy. In the far corner there was a small stage with a microphone lying on it. A young man put a stool on the stage, sat on it and starting playing his guitar. Amory took Aleana to the counter and ordered sodas for the both of them. "This is it," Amory said. "Is it like anything you expected?" "No, not at all." the girl replied. The bar tender set the glass cups on the counter and then he skidded away. "Yo, Amory!" A voice came from the back of the room. "How are ya today?" The young man started towards them. "Who's that?" Aleana questioned. Amory smirked. "That's Skitz. My best friend in the world." Once Skitz arrived he stood in front of Amory with a giant grin along his face. "Oh Amory, found a girl, eh? A nice looking girl too." he said while elbowing his friend. Skitz was good looking but he couldn't compete with Amory. Skitz had brown hair that turned to black at the tips. His eyes were dark, mysterious brown. He was wearing a gray T-shirt and long blue jeans that went over his black boots. He was a little shorter than Amory, but not that much. "She was unconscious in the woods so I brought her to Kaitlyn's place." Amory defended himself. "How old is she? Do you know?" Amory shook his head. Skitz stared at the girl. "So, lady, " he began. "What’s your age?" Aleana looked up at him while she played with her fingers. "Fifteen." "She's just a year younger than us." "Aleana is a friend. Nothing more." Amory said. "Than you don't mind if I have her do you?" Skitz put his arm around the girl with a smile on his face going from ear to ear. Aleana made a groan as she gave him a disgusted look. "He's really not like this, " Amory said to Aleana. "He's caffeine drunk." "Caffeine drunk?" "Yeah. He drinks too much soda." "Oh. Do people get caffeine drunk all the time?" "Yep." "Do you?" "Depends." Amory stood up and put his hands on his hips. "Be right back," he said. He slowly took steps out the door. Once he left, Skitz turned his attentions back to the girl. He took the seat Amory was sitting in and sat in it. "He said he saw one, "Skitz began. "Amory said he saw a Guardian." Aleana stayed calm. She was making sure she had control of her body so she wouldn’t freak out. "You've heard of 'em haven't you? Well, of course you have. Everyone has." The girl nodded. "The stories say that they protect the world and the people living in it from danger. Some say that they have something to follow. Like a prophecy. Each Guardian has their own to follow. If a one becomes too selfish in power, filled with jealousy, or they cannot fulfill their prophecy they become into something called a Weapon. Then they go on a killing spree until they die or is saved by someone they love." Aleana nodded again. She knew everything he said. Still, it's good to hear things over again. "Since there has been so many murders and dragons destroying cities, there's been rumors going around that the Guardians turned their backs on what they swore to do and left the world to come to an end." "It is their fault that they didn't save my family! The rumors are true. They're probably laughing at us right now because we're making fools out of ourselves!" Aleana cried. The guitarist stopped playing his music and took a bow. People started to clap and a few whistled. "Here's something for you to think about, Aleana. " Skitz got up and stretched his arms before he continued. "Why would the Guardians leave us when they've been protecting us for hundreds of years?" The girl grew a sad but angered face. She changed the subject by asking: "Do you know where Amory went?" "He might've gone to his cave." Skitz answered. "Cave? He has his own cave?" "Yep, but to get to his have you have to swim or fly." "So the cave is on an island?" "Sort of. You know the mountains just out of town?" "Yeah." No, Aleana thought. "Well, there's a river that runs through them and the river goes right to the mouth of the cave." Skitz looked over the girls shoulder and gave an evil smile. "What?" Aleana questioned. Skitz shook his head and gave a thumbs up. "BOO!" "AAHH!" The girl jumped and turned around. "Ugh. Why'd you do that, Amory? The boy smiled. "Just havin' some fun." "So, girl, I've never seen you before. Why are you here?" "I'm.... uh," Aleana looked back and forth. "I'm looking for the Guardians." The boys looked at each other in surprise. Amory sighed and faced his attention back to Aleana. "Go home. You'll never find them, " he said with calming words. "No! Kaitlyn said that they're close! I'm not going to quit now!" Amory knelt down beside her, put his hand on her knee, and stared at her with such gorgeous eyes. "Aleana, I'm sorry, but you've come all this way for nothing. Go home. It's better there." "For the last time, no! I'm not leaving. Not until I find the Guardians." A young woman stepped inside the bar. She looked around and found an empty table in the middle of the room. She put her blonde hair behind her ear and ordered a drink. All of them watched her, and Skitz had a giant smile on his face. He turned to his companions. "Time to do a little of my magic, " he said while grabbing his cup and walking towards the blonde girl. Amory and Aleana watched him. "What's he gonna do?" Aleana wondered. "You'll see." Skitz was now talking to the girl, and by the looks of it, the young girl didn't look too happy. She looked depressed and mad. Skitz put his arm around her and said something that made her furious. She got up and slapped him. "Don't try to hit on me!" the girl shrieked. She walked to the counter and sat a few seats from Aleana. Amory shook his head while Skitz came over. "That hurt." Skitz complained as he rubbed his cheek. Aleana went and sat next to the girl. "Hey," she said. The woman glanced up after taking a sip out of her cup. "Hi." "So, Skitz talked to you, " Aleana said, more statement than question. "Yeah, he did. What a weird name he has." "Haha, yeah, now that you mention it, he does. Anyway, he was only fooling around." The girl sighed, "I don't have a very good past with guys." "Oh?" The stranger closed her eyes. "All of my boyfriends who seem to love me always cheated on me. I had six boyfriends and each one of them cheated on me! The other day I saw my latest boyfriend swapping saliva with another girl." Aleana had no idea what to say. She never had gone through that experience so she wouldn't know how it would feel, but just to know that someone would do that to a person is just despicable. "What did you do?" she questioned. "I got in a fight with the girl. Then I ran to my friends house and stayed there for a night." Skitz and Amory came over. Both of them stared at the red-eyed girl. ""Sorry if I made you cry." Skitz apologized She shook her head. "No, it isn't because of you. Just some memories." After she said that she wiped the tears away. "My name is Serenity. Nice to meet you all, but it's getting late and I really need to find a place to stay." "Why don't you stay with us?" Aleana asked as she turned her head to speak to Amory. "Well, I can't stay at the hotel forever and your home is big isn't it?" Amory hesitated for a moment then decided it wouldn’t be such a horrible idea. He did need other people to speak to other than himself. "Um...I don't know." Serenity started to fidget. She looked at Amory then back to Aleana. "Is it okay with them?" The girl grinned and answered the question for both of the boys. "Aleana, who do you think you are inviting yourself into our house?" Skitz crossed his arms. "When did it become 'our' house?" Amory asked. "Well, my mom left me and my dad, and my dad is always drunk. It feels like you're my bro, and bro's look out for each other." Amory opened his mouth to say something than thought it would be better non-said. "Amory, do you mind showing Serenity and I where we're staying?" Aleana politely asked. "Uh-sure. Follow me." Amory walked out of the bar with everyone close behind.
